New road building

…or the lack of it! “The criteria for building future roads in Wales must now pass strict criteria, including not increasing carbon emissions and the number of cars on the road and they also must not lead to higher speeds and higher emissions, Also they must not negatively impact the environment…Welsh government have scrapped all major road building projects.” Does this mean only a minimal number of electric vehicles will be allowed on the ones being built? :grimacing: fleetnews.co.uk/news/car-in … s-scrapped

The vast majority of people can’t work out for themselves that you get the govt you vote for.

You didn’t make clear that this only applies to Wales.

Amended.

To be fair Wales already has plenty of road provision relative to population and traffic levels.
What’s needed is more East/West and North/South provision and options to relieve the traffic levels on A30/A303/A34/ M1/A1/M6/M5.

There are already too many roads. At some point it’s going to become unsustainable to maintain them. Already most are fully or partially closed too often, for too long anyway. Closed for barrier maintenance/repair/replacement, or for repainting, or to replace the studs, or to trim the grass, to resurface, to inspect overpass/bridge supports, to maintain/repair or replace overpass/supports, to replace lights/gantry, to install/remove/replace bridge/pedestrian overpass

So the answer is to build more surely, so that there is a viable alternative route when roads are closed and/or the new roads should be reet for at least a wee while.

There are plenty of new roads that aught to be built, two examples off the top of my head are firstly, an east coast motorway from the northern end of the M11 up through Lincolnshire, over the Humber bridge, past Newcastle and up to Edinburgh. Secondly the M59 needs to be built as a trans Pennines route from Ripon to Preston which would take a huge amount of traffic away from the chaotic M62.

Only yesterday I was driving down the Kingskerswell bypass in South Devon recalling how horrendous the traffic was in the area prior to it being built, here in Plymouth we have a soon to be opened new section of road that Will hugely improve traffic flow thus helping the local economy and productivity. Remember the not the nine o’clock news failed in Wales sketch
