Very Quiet For Class 2 Work Still ! Salary Expectations

Thats the thing with agency, yes you are probably on more an hour, but when it’s quiet you aren’t earning at all… I think some people do live in a dream world with wages…

I know specialist lads just on some of the wages above’ and some people would expect it for pulling a tautliner! :unamused:

As I’m sure you know I’m a long term limper, but at the same time I’m not an advocate of agencies, as I don’t think the pay differential is enough for the differences in employment. There are pro’s and con’s to it, and it’s a good varied early experience for a Newbie, but I wouldn’t want to stay agency! :imp: It’s just that I still haven’t found what I’m looking for… I’m quoting U2! :open_mouth:

Plenty of work out there for a driver with a good reputation though, so I wouldn’t say job insecurity is an issue for the deserving. As such this does negate the lack of guaranteed income, but at the same time you don’t have the same bargaining power of a FTW. You’re told to jump X high, and you do it or possibly find a new employer!

Agency is good regarding different types of work I totally agree with you there, but as a full timer I think you are entitled to more… The company I’m with now are replacing the fleet and we have been asked “what would you like” and to be fair’ I think they are deffinetly the best in Hull…

But like you say the wages are more as a agency driver, swings and roundabouts mate but I know which side I’d rather give way to

Hopefully things should start picking up any day soon mate. I’ve started a forklift course today and sods law I had 2 agencies and a haulage firm phone me to see if I can do any driving for the foreseeable… I’m not giving up this course though, waited long enough for it.

I have been driving for 20 years now and the money some drivers are getting is shocking. I am driving Tankers and have been for 10 years and my money is decent but I do at least 50 hrs a week sometimes 60 and I am earning 17.30 per hour, I would take a stand to bring people up to a better standard but whilst people are happy working for the likes of Stobarts, Suttons etc driving will never improve, has no one heard about April 3rd no drivers to have a walk out day?

It could help you get a Moffet job if you’ve got a FLT licence

Thanks for the replies guys ! I didn’t take the job due to the low wage. It was a well known Logistics company on based on The Wirral. I tested the water on here because I thought afterwards am I being too fussy but £7.36 is IMHO not very good considering that I’m driving a Class 2 vehicle and not for example doing a more safer job.

Ron

Ron have you got an ADR?

The very same reasons I’m still agency, it’s more choice than anything else, as well as even these days you don’t have the same employment rights with an employer so even full-time employment can end with as little as a phone call one day. (Extreme but very plausible)
