5000 visas?
Barely a drop in the ocean.
Starmer wants 10000.

Remind me who supposedly represents the working man.

5000 drivers to fulfil a supposedly 100000 shortage. I think the Tories are playing a clever game. It’s the haulage company bosses who are the enemy along with the trade bodies such as the RHA

And the thing is that by the time they source these drivers, arrange visas, get them into work etc at least another 5,000 UK drivers will have reached retirement age and packed up anyway.

Politicians being what they are the figures probably actually translate as another nought added to the 5,000 and a lot more than a nought taken off the 100,000.
I wouldn’t bet on many takers just based on quality of the work on offer let alone a country rushing over a cliff into an all electric 18p + per kwh economic black hole.

Conor:
Remember the EE drivers only came here in the first place thanks to your beloved Labour not putting a cap on migrant numbers in 2004 when they could have done. Meanwhile for the last 7 months the Tories have been telling the haulage industry they have to sort out their recruitment problems themselves and it’s only thanks to pressures from the great unwashed due to the union and haulage company manufactured petrol shortage that they’re relucantly issuing 10,000 visas. Those 10,000 visas aren’t just for lorry drivers but for process workers too so they’re doing the bare minimum to be seen to be doing something to keep the morons happy. Compare that to Labour who allowed over 100,000 a year for the last 6 years they were in power into the UK.

It’s undeniable that the Conservatives’ agenda is to increase wages for truck drivers whereas Labour’s agenda is to force them downwards. And this policy of Labour’s (not just for truck drivers but factory and warehouse workers etc etc etc) is why they got annihilated in the last General Election, losing seats they had held for nearly 100 years and why they won’t ever be in power again.

Amen, wise words indeed but the EU remain clowns still don’t get it, most probably because they are retired now and not at the sharp end anymore.

Truckulent:
If they come…

Tbh, no surprise at all… Wages will plummet again once Xmas is over,.if not before…

Not a prayer. This is only gonna get worse for a good 2 years. No quick fix for this - unless they say those afghan refugees are hgv qualified cos they once tied a trailer to the back of their camel.

Labour’s huge and seemingly insurmountable problem is the contempt they have for their traditional voter base. They seem to think that a huge reduction in our standards of living is a price well worth paying to discover the value of “diversity”. If you try to explain the position of the working class man, well you’re just a racist because the metropolitan Islington elite who run Labour, from Sir Kneelalot downwards just hate us.

Keir Starmer: I will let in 100,000 foreign lorry drivers
:stuck_out_tongue:

Why would they leave their own country to work here until Christmas, the uncertainty still around covid travel rules ridiculously high rents why would anyone do it, would any of you go to Poland to work until Christmas no like ****.

And if anyone thinks life would be better under a Labour government just check out what’s happening in Venezuela right now ask them how there socialist utopia is working out.

To be fair Boris’ loyal on message adherence to ‘UN’ one world governance policy isn’t a million miles away from the aims of the ‘Labour’ Party. It’s all the politics of the collective.

Remember when the FTA and the RHA campaigned for a shorter working week and improved roadside facilities together with proper pay and conditions■■?

No

Me neither.

Our employer would love too see them all back, driving as well as picking. Hence the recent incentive to get us to work more overtime

And one more thing, the MSM the BBC in particular are blatantly biased to the left and the remainers, they are now doing everything they possibly can to cause chaos the alleged fuel shortage being their latest ruse, and the sheeple just lap it up.

Jeeezz.
We are no longer tied to using those expensive East Euro drivers.
Haven`t any of you been looking at the new trade deals our noble leader has been forging?
Give it a coupla weeks…

Looks like any UK driver with EU relatives that can get him/her an EU passport is more likely to move to the EE/Mainland Europe for a driving job than an EU citizen coming to the UK.

The one blessing of the ending of Free Movement is that UK HGV drivers are now trapped in the UK and can’t move to the EU where major initiatives are in progress to improve wages & conditions and a Euro Billions EU wide program to build more parking and facilities.

If we had free movement we could lose even more drivers and EE/EU drivers are unlikely to take a wage & conditions cut to come to UK Brexit Plague Island

Every employer in the land would love to have them all back, it’s not happening and one thing I’m sure of and many of you will agree this is exactly why we voted leave, the indigenous population will not be treated like landless serfs any longer I’m especially enjoying myself watching it play out.

Amen to that

No it’s thanks to your beloved Labour supporting unions who are backing the haulage companies who want the cheap EE labour back by manufacturing a fuel shortage crisis and perpetuating the claims from the companies that unless we allow loads of EE drivers back Christmas will be cancelled.

You need to go seek some psychiatric help, your delusional obsession with Tories is causing you to spout some right bollox.

Labour want the working class kept in it place, dependent on the state for everything, bowing and scraping gratefully for a min wage job topped up by working tax credits. Why else would they have invented that system AND opened the borders to the hoards from the east. Hoping benefit junkies would keep voting for them ad-Infinitum

Unfortunately the benefit dependent here in Wales keep voting for Welsh Labour. But ironically, the majority of the electorate voted for brexit.

You Remoaners just won’t give it a rest, will you? The eu is like a religion to you. We’ve seen unprecedented pay rises this year, fifteen years of wage stagnation reversed in one short Summer and greater than I’ve known in over 35 years in the job but still you can’t stop ■■■■■■■■■■■■ into that blue and yellow flag.

I see remoaners as traitors Harry. They, for some reason dislike the UK. OK the Uk is a bit ■■■■ but it’s not all ■■■■.
