Your dad was a great bloke Danny, had many a great night with big Jack.

Sykes and Shaws brings back some memories. Gerry who opened and ran the wash bay in Pumpherston was ex Sykes and Gordon Crabtree was another star

The Crusader on the photo is not the one he drove - his was EVH 221L. The earlier photograph of the Scammell Trunker WCX 911J he had from new in 1971 - when I was 12 (Hell fire - where has all that gone)!

Hi Danny welcome to TN I can recall when you used to come up to Shepley with your dad ( a long time ago  ) I was always on the Bulk Liquids side and I did see your dad and Derek a lot before they came onto the bulk liquid side as I was shop steward as was your dad at Shaw and he was then shop steward at Shepley when I left. I also worked with Jack at Bill Brennans and as has been said he was a great mate and human being always willing to help anyone.

Malc you have mentioned two of my very good mates in your post both who I socialised and worked with in fact I was best man at Gordons wedding and stayed at Gerrys several times after he had moved to Scotland and they have both stayed at our place as well as having holidays together.
cheers Johnnie

hi the picture of EVH 221L was taken in the yard at milnsbridge on the day dad picked it up brand new. the photo was taken by a professional photographer and was put in the company book that gave the history of the company.i only ever saw one copy of the book that my dad had .the book was stolen when he took it to show one of the drivers who he worked with when he worked for professional tankers in 1994 when his scania 113 was stolen out of the yard in Trafford park.oh he was a bit narked about that ill tell you like a bear with a sore arse. good job he did not find them I thought it was just me that could get him that annoyed.the scania never showed up either .by the way the picture of EVH221L Derrick bamford had enlarged and hung on his kitchen wall I went to visit him a few weeks before he passed away and he showed it to me I guess they where together to the end. by the way Allan Sanderson was at my place today and I showed him all these pictures on this site and he wanted to know who you are.

cheers Johnnie

I initially posted EVH 221L on here in my first post but the link seems to be broken now. I had this photograph given to me by Paul Sykes as he said it was all they had left after a fire destroyed the other pictures they had. I’ll see if I can repair the link. Couldn’t find the link so here it is again:
