It looks like a Searcher but I’m not too sure they fitted a 240 in a Searcher (the grill does look wider though)
The NU part of the registration is from the East Midlands

This is a shot of Eric Postlethwaite and my-self taken by Chris Swindlehurst, an ex Bewick driver, at Levens Bridge when Ray Stevens was on his way to Barrow to show Brady’s his handy work. Eric preferred to run through to Levens from Dalton-in-Furness to be photographed with his former mate  “aye our Maurice we did a fair few miles together” on an outfit just like this ! well almost like this if it had had a 680 Power Plus engine and a trailer a couple of foot longer, oh! and a nice low load of Barrow Steel on board ! But seriously it was a very nostalgic half hour for both of us and we couldn’t thank Ray enough for sparing the time to unite the two of us with a superb replica of a great outfit ! And Chris as well for the shots he took 1 Cheers Dennis.

The "Guv’nor and his apprentice !

Love the pic of the Wisbech Roadways Leyland Buffalo… Wouldn’t it be nice if we could identify some of the drivers as many of them are quite clearly visible in the cab. Great pictures once again.

Atkinson 6x4 is a venturer, Borderer is a 4x2 .    -

Plus 1.& Perfectly Correct. Regards Larry.

The R Hasset Mercedes the reg number looks like PTY 884M , plus it has the optional large fuel tank
This motor came to Waughs as a demo when ONL Atkinson was sent back to Atkinson which Dennis from Bewick ended
up with.
Stu cartwright (RIP) had it from new ran in factory primer for a good few months before it got the blue and red colour of Waughs
was the only Merc to have the ratchet handbrake the rest came with air hand brakes. What a strong little motor it was
Stu had it on general then it went on night trunk change over markham moor with stu and was used as a spare through the day.
Stu ended up with LBB 815P day cab 400 SED/ATK no need for a sleeper and Les Newton got it next.
just some info on it if its PTY 884M. Great time with this motor.    -

Thanks for the information on this motor Brian ! I remember a driver telling me that he hated the
ratchet handbrake on one of these as it had knocked itself off a few times ! :unamused:

The truck being towed is a Bedford SB (Passenger chassis) By the badge n the front would estimate about 1963 manufacturer. Haven’t a clue who the pantechnicon body was built by, but looks a bit of a home made affair, but there again to build a cab onto a bare chassis be it rough as it appears needs some skill

2017-07-17 20.28.17.jpg Berliet road surface survey truck along side a West Yorkshire County Council Vauxhall Viva van in the days before the Highways Agency. Taken on the M62 at the cutting just before Scammonden Dam. Notice the distinctive wire rope crash barrier in the foreground which was designed that way to supposedly stop snow drifts in the winter accumulating in the center of the carriageway and blow straight across to the side of the road.

The Foden pulling the little single axle trailer is Sutherlands of Edinburgh they used to pull into Catterick Cafe (Lawsons) loaded with sawdust I think it went on to be made into chipboard regulars on the A1 mid /late sixties …

Edwin Farralls Mercedes must have been one of the last like that on an R registration.
