I am always intrested when delivering you come across a small tug/tractor or forklift that’s from the 50’s/60’s.
Its surprising how many are still about, not only in large factories but often in smaller companies. There are a
few dotted around Poole.

Hi Dean and thanks again for the postings. I can remember most of the featured companies. We were not involved too much in the flat / long distance scene. My Dad tended to concentrate on local tipper and livestock work and of course we also had the domestic solid fuel which kept about 10 / 15 men busy depending on the time of year.
As an addendum I would mention that my late sister worked in the Cawthorne Sinclair office at Birtley for some years.

Cheers Tyneside

Tyneside ,here’s a bit on Cawthorne Sinclair.

Well chaps it looks like winter is finally on its way,had 3 hard frosts here on the trot which is nice after 4 months of
rain.

I reckon those Scandinavian fellas know a thing or two about running in winter conditions. But someimes even they
have issues.

L.Hunt & Sons Scania from Basingstoke.

Morning Dean,
Regarding Dalgety’s mill at Poole, I can remember tipping wheat there in 1990, M.Way had a big presence in there at that time as there was 2 or 3 of them tipping/reloading. Both times I had a wheel off the bridge whilst taring out, paid on the ton so every bit helps!

Some oldies.

Dean British International were based in Ashley Crescent, Sholing, Southampton in the same yard as Cabmont and before them Public Benefit Coal Co, PBC think they went bust but did mainly Portugal work, Buzzer.

PS. the yard now is used by a recycling company

Hello Dean ,…many thanks for another Howel Richards ERF …the old man says an additional thank you for the J&M Transport F88s …lol …Geraint

Powered by a Gardner 150 6LX engine Atkinson Mk1 six wheeler Reg No ODJ 706F was originally registered new to Tabern’s of St Helens on the 1st of November 1967.

Greenfield Station.jpg After it’s days at Tabern’s it was purchased by Barrett’s of Delph and is pictured here negotiating the hairpin bend at Greenfield Station in Saddleworth on the 22nd of August 1982.

Today it sports the red livery of F.C.Cooke of Leighton Crewe, although as of January 2015 the vehicle was off the road with a SORN in place.

Hi Dean,
Yes the Marsden integral is the same company…i’m not sure if Ellis Morgan are still trading now…they were a very old company and once had a large fleet of Marsden Integrals…in the later years they went on to more artics.

Regards Mark

Yes, Dalgety Agriculture bought RHM Agriculture in 1982. It was a “reverse” takeover in that RHM Agriculture was the bigger company of the two.

Happy New Year Chris ! Your right London Carriers were owned by Philips but I believe they did a certain amount of third party work for other customers. IIRC Philips had a factory in Burnley. Cheers Dennis.

Philips owned Mullards who were originally valve manufacturers. In the North West, they had plants in Burnley and two in Southport - one in Butts Lane, Blowick (which later became a bakery) near where I live and the other larger plant was in Balmoral Drive, Crossens, where two of my Grandparents worked. It was built next to the old Vulcan works and was a very large employer in the town.

Finally dredged the depths of my memory - as others have said, London Carriers was a subsidiary of Philips Electrical, and Philips’ hauliers’ work was processed through London Carriers. Philips sold off LC to a (Swedish?) freight forwarder called Inter Forward and it eventually disappeared.
