Most disappointing truck you've driven

I’m surprised so many rate the MAN so poorly. I always found the cab larger then most and quite comfortable. Only bad thing for me was the autobox.

The cab is a good one even in a 26t with the 2.3m wide cab there’s plenty of room abiet only 2 lockers above dash not 3
I do with that they didn’t get the Hamburg ship yard to make the steering wheels

F90/F2000 were brilliant trucks. Anything after them… :frowning:

After having a fleet of Merc Actros 63 to 65 plate …rubbish gearbox ,ride , poor steering need I go on .
Was looking forward to a new fleet of DAF CF 450 ( International Truck of The Year 2018 …how bad were the others? )
I’m 5’7 in height ,average build and 13 stone but my right arm is right up against the door , I cannot feed the wheel thru my hands because of the stupid angle my arm has to be at to avoid the bloody door , the sun visors are hopeless ( wrong way round for RHD ? ) absolutely guttless …dropping gears on hills with an empty 13m fridge , it has 450 engine it should be flying up .
It seems to me that truck design is going backwards …its funny how lots have already said give me back the old truck I used to drive .
DAF CF ITOtY 2018 …oh dear oh dear as The Chuckle Brothers would say .

I think DAF power output stickers are just random numbers that they’ve seen other manufacturers use. Could be 310 or 510 it ain’t gonna get you up the hill any faster

Try the latest models, MAN are getting their act together again, much better with the Traxon (which isn’t called Traxon in MAN world) box.
I have a soft spot for MAN’s, have driven them regularly from the 70’s going right back to column change gearboxes, never been let down by one yet, the early cabs were sparse but all have been comfortable competent motors that have pulled well, good on fuel and reliable.

im writing this on services where i needed to stop after just about 50miles driven in Actros due to pain in my back…
we use actros build for supermarkets only with no suspension on front just 2big rubber bushes instead to save few quid to them…after 4years driving this ■■■■ im done…have problem to get up from my bed every morning and im only turning 40next year…4years ago i was fit young man…
got notice letter on my table ready to hand on Wednesday when im back at work…this pile of ■■■■ made me hate every single minute of driving i once loved…leaving job which pay me almost 40k a year…but i just can not continue like this…

We wrote colective greavance letter that we dont want drive these vehicles…what they have done? They brought more from other depots…■■■■■■■■

You can get use to good MAN suspension without beeing sea sick but you will not get new spine when its damaged…

adam277:
Apart from Isuzu they only make rigids but they are the cheapest worst pieces of crap I have ever driven.

Sadly they do make artics. I think it’s just that they are so ■■■■■ no one over here ever buys them. I don’t think any competent companies buy the rigid

Honestly mate, I doubt it’s the lorry. I don’t like Mercs, but I always found an acceptable seat position in them. A mate of mine has serious back problems and he managed with DAF, Iveco, Merc, and the odd MAN.
I asked him about it and he said the lorry made no difference, he had a specialist who told him to use a cushion in the small of his back. It helped but wasn’t perfect.

Have you taken medical advice?

Mmmm, think it’ll take me a while to get over the dirty tracksuit that I think of every time I see one

MAN for me without a doubt. Just can’t seem to get comfortable in them, steering wheel the size of a dustbin lid, no run-up ramps (on the few we have anyway) and on a lot of our trailers the rear lights strobe for some reason. We have to carry spare electrical suzies with a special box on but even then there’s no guarantee they won’t strobe. Be curious if anyone else has the same problem.
The worst thing is that the MAN’s that we have are some of the only trucks in our fleet not limited to 54 so they go well on a run but I’d still rather have one of our new Volvo’s

An FH4 540. Thought it was horrible to drive, gutless and uncomfortable.

The total opposite of an FH3 which is a great lorry.

Doesn’t matter where I go, I seem to get an Actros MP4. It has a really intelligent gearbox as it’s the only one that can recite pi to 14 decimal places when you try to set off from a junction or roundabout!

from day one when we got these…i felt more tyred after long days…not just me…many guys at my work have same problems…
we had hired MAN…drove it for 3days…felt 10years younger…
Big Actros is not great, but these without cab suspension are just unreal!!!

No electrical problems with our MANs. I would give my right arm for 54. We are limited to 51. A Smeets truck even overtook me yesterday, its driver was bouncing with excitement. I think I was the first he had ever overtaken

Reading the title of the thread, I’d take it as not the worst truck you’ve ever driven, but the one that least lived up to your expectations.

For me that has been various Scanias I’ve driven, they weren’t bad trucks as such, but I expected them to be far better after listening to the hype, although I did have short drive in a new S 500 at the start of the year and got to say it was pretty decent truck.

That’s why I gave up a 16plt Actros for a 14plt MAN and haven’t regretted it apart from I’m limited to 85kph :frowning:

The new shape Actros when it came out is definitely the biggest disappointment I have had with wagons, especially after spending a while looking at them thinking they looked good.

Absolute bag of ■■■■ to drive.

I’m a Scania man to be honest. Up until the new shape, no thrills and nothing special but work horses that get the job done & don’t fall to bits plus the auto box is decent. Their dealerships always been good too in my experience. DAFs are ok but dashboard forever telling you problems & the auto box ain’t the best. Volvos have a nice box but otherwise overrated for me. Don’t know much about MANs.

What’s the most disappointing truck you’ve driven , not old dogs but new beasts that look the dogs danglies but turn out to be the dogs dinner
I mean ride quality , handling , gear change , cab spec and build quality ?
My 2 are a close run race between an Iveco stralis or the current MP4 Actros

The new DAF XF 530. One of my regulars has four of them. The engine is so weak that I wonder if it’s a real 530 or if they’ve just put the numbers on to look cool. I’ve driven more powerful 440s that don’t lose as much speed up a moderate hill, without anything like a full load, as this thing does.

Any man no traction rubbish stereo wheel stolen from a bus lol
