Lance Biscomb Bulk Haulage

Always thought LBs looked smart, through out the Livery’s. Used to see them at Shropshires in Huncote, when i worked there. And they always used to wave at us.

More to come

Very rare pictures Saleyboy not very often this impressive fleet were altogether always out and about earning there keep .Keep up the good work with your pictures and comments , bringing back good memories and times

Thanks 20855 Yes very true about them out earning their keep but allways nice to see a spectacular fleet all kept lovely and clean especially on tipper work but what ever the wagons and trailer needed they got, that was how thorough, conscientious about having every thing right Lance was and importantly still is today.

MAJOR MISHAP ! The miles and the days you do driving there has to be inevitable crashes, bad luck or what ever you want to call it, it happens,as long nobody is hurt or killed we can built our trucks to be great again! (although this was very rare at LB,s still an excellent bunch of drivers that anybody would gladly employ straight away!!!).It was John “Burnley” Fegan driving Irish Bob’s ( Robert McConnell from the Annalong depot) wagon L2LBH. John hit black ice and suffered the horrendous damages to the wagon unhurt himself but in severe shock! He was running empty early one morning between Newry and Dundalk when the accident happened. The wagon was recovered by “Annalong depot” McConnell Haulage Ivan (who did all the work) Bob (who was to cold!) and boss Desmond.L2LBH was loaded onto their low loader and shipped back to the UK. She was collected from Heysham by LB driving L4LBH. At least nobody was hurt except our pride! But she will be rebuilt as good as new.The story will continue!!!

OKAY LB!

This was end of an era as these Scanias where the last 143 450 V8 topline streamliners to enter into service at the LB fleet. The reason LB would not buy a 4 series is he thought that they where over priced, over rated and were a step backwards in his eyes if they had up graded the 3 series he probably would have stayed with Scania.LB was the biggest Scania bulk tipper operator in the north west and was offered by local Preston Scania salesman Alistar Morgan a 4 series 460 R cab 4x2 FOC to be evaluated in the LB tipper fleet, this was ordered by a local haulier who gave back word on the deal but when he heard what was going on he promptly took charge of the wagon which was sprayed and sign written and had pride of place on the Scania stand at tipcon Harrogate. The wagon had countless problems so really good job it did,nt come into the fleet!
L1LBH,L2LBH and L4LBH where sold to local refridgerated haulier and friend Ian Parkinson. L3LBH was sold to a firm in Ireland.William Armstrong Haulage of Longtown Carlisle bought all the M and N reg,s which were sent to euro axles at Stoke which where to be altered from 4x2 to 6x2 midlifts. A couple off the latest N reg,s still had warranty and Scania said warranty would be void if they were altered in any way so where left as 4x2,s.Graham commercials of Carlisle did a deal with Armstrongs swapping the tipping gear for full deflector kits.

After downgrading the fleet LB tested various marques but settled on a split decision between Daf and Volvo. The first being a Volvo FH12 460 4x2 with CD trim with a 2.8 diff which was very high geared.

The next new steed to join the LB fleet was a 430 4x2 XF DAF that was now known as L2LBH ! Lance ran this wagon for 2 years never needing to jack the cab up as it was that relaible. This was on drum brakes and was a top wagon.

The next wagon to join was a Volvo FH12 460 4X2 now to be known as L3LBH .

The latest addition is another Volvo FH 12 460 4x2 known now as L4LBH

20855:
I used to work for lance back in the 90,s driving one of the mighty 143,s when scania,s were a proper truck.Had plenty of good times back then with some top lads Simon ,Fred Jacko ,Big Steve R I P to name but a few

So did I, I am Ian Bagot who are you??

Its come to the time when the next wagon has to go V310LFR was sold to Fulwood Commercials Preston. Then she was resold to Caldo Oils at St Helens and is still working today pulling tankers. As legislation changed and the gross weights went up from 40T to 44T then LB looked at buying the first 6x2 which would be LILBH and drove by big Steve Beatty but some time later Steve jumped ship to work for a local haulier come farmer which opened the door for young Rikki Eastham to join the team.
