Oh, No! If you don’t mind me saying so, you’re taking this “multi-culturalism” a bit too seriously.

Here are a couple of Eric Vick questions someone might be able to help me with (for modelling purposes):

What is the name/code of the maroon colour used for the cab (1970s in particular)?

What is the name/code of the red colour used for the chassis (it may actually just be the ‘rocket red’ ERF used in the factory)?

What is the name/code of the white (or cream) used for the lining-out/pin-striping on the '70s ERFs?

I’d be deeply grateful for any info or leads on these questions. Cheers! Robert

Laurie Dryver:
Until recently going back many years the only non ERF in Eric’s fleet was a Transcon which he bought because it came with permits which were as rare as rocking horse manure at that time, I don’t think it was ever painted it was light blue IIRC but it was driven by the late Ivor Neal (RIP) a dear old school mate of mine.

I remember running up from the Mocamp in Istanbul to load tractors in Brasov, Transylvania with two of Eric Vicks drivers in the early eighties. Dave had an E.R.F. and I am sure that Andrew had a Scania 111.

Regards Steve.

I’ve got a funny feeling that the maroon colour was “Imperial Crimson”, from ICI, the same colour as George Read’s.

And most likley Polyurathane Stuff ROF, We used it a couple of times and it was very durable stuff in its day, We used to paint the chassis with it, Regards Larry.

Thanks for that, ROF: I’ll look into it :sunglasses: ! Robert

Obviously you won’t get it by the “ICI” name these days, Robert, but your friendly local paint supplier will either put you on to the equivalent or mix it for you.

Here’s a question for any of you who were with Eric Vick in the ‘70s and early ‘80s. I’m trying to work out which of EV’s units went down to the Middle East (on VIJORE work) at that time.

First, to avoid wasting time, is a list of those unit that we know DID go down there.

KFH 248P ERF NGC LHD 4x2
KFH 249P ERF NGC LHD 4x2
HDG 282V ERF B-series RHD 4x2
XDG 613S ERF B-series RHD 4x2
TAF 365 ERF B-series LHD 6x2
HDD 906L Merc LP 1924 RHD 4x2
KKO 823P Ford Transcon RHD 4x2
FAD 314L Seddon (day cab) RHD 4x2
PDG 881M ERF A-series Sleeper RHD 4x2

Then there was a DAF 2800 RHD 4x2 that deffo did North Africa; but did it ever do Middle-East work?

So here’s the crunch question. These units were all pictured with Eric Vick Middle-East tilts. Some had roof-mounted aircons, some were LHD and some had both. They all wore the boots and looked the part but which of them actually did Middle-East work?

OFY 867S ERF B-series RHD 4x2
8557 EV ERF B-series RHD 6x2
RDH 181M ERF A-series (pigeon loft) RHD 4x2 [not to be confused with PDG 881 which had a full sleeper]
— —S ERF B-series LHD 4x2
YRF 823S ERF B-series LHD 4x2

And finally, there was TDG 209V, an ERF B-series RHD 6x2 which remains on the preservation circuit, though I’m not sure if that was an original EV unit.
If you can help out with this I’d be grateful!

Thanks, Ro
