Down plate tractor unit from 44 tonne to 34 tonne?

Hi Fellow Truckers,

What do I need to do to down plate my tracor unit from 44 tonnes to 34 tonnes?

What do I have to do?
Which forms?
Do I need to get it inspected?

As much information given will nice

Cheers and stay safe

Yes you can get it downrated via DVSA.
You require Form, VTG10 ( costs about £27.00 from memory ). Now its confusing on the Inspection. As far as I can remember the Vehicle will have to be Inspected. But I also remember reading that you do not have to be inspected. Two bits of information on the same page but contradictory.
But I would take it that you do have to be inspected.
Then once its been re-plated you must fill in form V70. To have it re- licensed.

Hope that helps.

Downplating to 34t does introduce a difficulty in getting good roller brake test readings for both the unit and the trailer. You can find yourself relying upon locks and front wheel allowance to achieve a pass, possibly more likely the results will just achieve the required percentage for either the unit or the trailer. It is not easy to distribute sufficient payload for the trailer bogie and the unit without exceeding 34t gross.
