Coolboxes

Harry Monk:
Any haulier who expects a driver to do nights out should spec a truck with a manufacturer fitted fridge. This would cost less than £2 a week on the finance over the lifetime of the truck. If a haulier won’t spend £2 a week so that a driver can have fresh food and a cold drink, then they aren’t worth working for.

I have heard a rumour that all new sleeper cabs must be fitted with a fridge from 2019.

I reckon it’s a mixture of half wishful thinking, half drivercrap mate tbh.
I did hear that fridges on seats were a bit of a bugbear with DVSA, so if it is actually true it would solve that problem.

they will only be available to trucks with factory fitted fire extinguishers though.

I was watching a tv programme last night about rogue landlords. It focused on cramped living conditions and lack of toilet/washing/cooking facilities making the rented accommodation totally unsuitable for habitation. Why do trampers put up with this for 20 odd quid a night.?
I know I wouldn’t

Don’t start that rubbish, some might do it as the extra £20 makes a difference in their life but there are also some of us that like going places further then 4.5hrs from base.

I love parking in a lay by for 9 hours as an unpaid security guard me, having a wet wipe wash, my pot noodle meal, washed down with a can of Coke, and then starting the next day with a crap in a carrier bag…living the dream. :sunglasses:

Has he gone ?.. :unamused:

No me either, but don’t let these agency/daymen/those who have done the job for all of 5 minutes, any wiser about real tramping ffs, or they’ll.all want to do it.

the 1st time stobarts telly crew double man with dozy, then thatl be the cat out of the bag,and they will never get anyone on locals…

Thinking of getting a coolbox, never had one before.

Only going out for 5-6 days at a time, looking for something that’s effective and good value.

Any recommendations or any to avoid?

Cheers!

for 20 odd quid a night.

I’ll settle for the £35 a night (+ SNAP parking) that they currently pay me for the 1-2 nights a week I do, it helps pay for the little creature comforts such as the TV, & coolbox for the cab, and steak dinner washed down with a pint or two at the end of the day, which make those nights away more bearable

if your sure you want a coolbox and not a full on temperture controlled fridge then look at Halfords . They have a big 40 l one that is 12/ 24 volt as well as 240 so you can run it at home on the 240 volt , in your car on the way to the truck on 12 volt and it also runs on 24 volt in the truck . I had an older version (no 24 volt ) but it worked well from the 12v plug in the truck never had a problem with it in 2 years .

That looks bang on, cheers mate! Waiting for someone to get back to me on Gumtree, but if they don’t I think I’ll be heading to Halfords later!

Well, hopefully collecting the second hand one later. I’ll give it a go and if it’s no good, will go for the second option.

Many thank for all the help, chaps. Much appreciated!

I bought a Halfords 24 litre powered cool box earlier this year , and have been very pleased with it. (40l model is rather big, 24l fits perfectly in Scania on the floor, between front of passenger seat and dash)
It is a little small I you don’t have a chance to replenish through the week but it’s not been a problem really. There is no temp control , but the spec is that it cools to 18deg below ambient. It’s a little noisy, but unplugging g at night is no bother as it is still well cold in the morning. It won’t pull the battery down if you do leave it on overnight but will if it’s on all weekend.
From memory it was £42.

Went to collect the Gumtree one and whilst I was out Mrs D bought me a Halfords one like yours!

Using the Halfords one, so far so good!
