Constant lower back ache

Any of you with persistent lower back pain should really nag your doctor for a specialist referral . Drivers are most likely to present with spinal stenosis , displaced discs at the base of the spine . Bouncing up and down in the seat day after day is a common cause , it’ remedied by keyhole surgery to hold the discs in line with titanium rods . I’ve had it for years , but inoperable due to other health issues . A friend had the op and in 8 or 9 weeks was as good as new . It needs checking as left untreated can eventually trap nerves and take the use of the legs , I’m at the stage now where 50 yards is my maximum , ain’t much fun , Dave

Its not cheap but I see a private osteopath every few months. Cracks it back and keeps me going. Unless you are very lucky a GP isn’t interested.

Osteopath is able to manipulate bones not just do muscles so is better than physio if you have that sort of issue Try and get a recommendation as they are not cheap if you get a poor one

Dr can’t refer you or recommend you as they are not registered & no national recognised qualification ( anyone can set up as osteopath

Ask about Pain management form your Dr they helped me had MRI scan physio pain relief injections all help have to keep up with the physio every day as well as the pain relief but it works for me

I think it depends on exactly what is wrong. I found the osteoporosis was good, but after a few days the pain came back, whereas the physio gave me exercises that as long as I do them, keeps me moving.

Yes I totally agree it depends what is wrong. My osteopath also gave me things to do.

My issue was related to a car accident when I was 18 and a highly physical job. The exercises helped but only for so long before he had to loosen it off again.

I have had a noticeable improvement since I started driving though

I don’t mean that the gp refer to an osteopath as like you say they can be good and bad. I meant you struggle to get gp to send you to an nhs back person. Just said to me you have a bad back and a hard job change it!

Pain management will help but I think the op needs to find what the problem is first as it may be something that can be easily fixed and stop the pain that way

Pain management found out what my problem was accident when I was 17 motorbike low speed low impact landing badly took almost 30 years to find out a few thing have helped but I know what is causing the pain so can deal with it easier if / when I get as don’t feel pain which is part of my problem

I know 2 people recently when to the doc with back ace and later died from cancer , I know a driver right now went with back ace he’s got cancer in 3 places .

Definitely get any lower back pain looked at soon as, I ended up retired (medically) because of it.

Physio helped me, he showed me exercises to do to strenghen my back.
