Scania comfort

Love them ,never really suffered comfort wise ,but this new one I’m really struggling with ,terrible cramp in both legs ,pain all down left arm ,shoulder blade area ,did 4 hrs driving the other day and was in real trouble ,it got to the extent I had to pull up on hard shoulder ,just couldn’t keep going any longer ,never had this before ,seats look the same ,but something is not right ,mate recons arm / back could be work related ,sitting there it’s stiffening up ,but cramp is a strange one

It’s probably the fact it’s a scania,I drive a topline, uncomfortable to drive and bed can only be slept in once you put a matress toper on the joke off a bed,

Meant to say no I’m not a scania fan just have to put up with it and hope to go back on a daf

Afaik scania’s where known to have a comfort issue causing back problems etc.
This was due to the proximity of the centre console to the drivers leg

Go to the doctor ASAP. Do not mess around, take time off to go. Pain like that tends to be caused by a narrowing of the spinal channel the spinal chord go through, usually the discs, so it presses on the nerves and causes you to experience pain in places where the problem actually isn’t. If it was confined to your legs then it could be a lower back injury but if its in your arms and shoulders then that puts the serious possibility that its in your neck.

As someone who has had their life absolutely ruined by a spinal injury take it from me that it isn’t something you want to be dicking about with or putting off because it might get better. Get it looked at now.

Worst advice ever. I did that when I knackered 2 discs in my lower spine, just put up with the niggling pain which got worse and to the point I could no longer sleep or move or do anything. By the time I left it to the point it I could no longer live with it it was so serious that I was 6 months off being a paraplegic and the operation had a 50/50 chance of either success or leaving my paralysed in my legs. Between having my initial GP appointment, MRI scan, follow up appointment with a specialist and having my back opened up was only a few weeks because of the seriousness of it.

If I’d gone months earlier it may have been able to be sorted by physio and changing what I did. Because I didn’t I was having major spinal surgery in my early 20’s and its screwed my life ever since and will until the day I die.

I am a tall chap, and my knees ache after a long run.

Its much better when I raise the seat height. But then I have to pull over because I cant see where I am going.

Handy for looking at the tacho though.

The cheap seats should be outlawed! The top range seat is probably the thing that’s missing that make many people hate 'em so much…it’s a different ball game entirely

Interestingly I’m the reverse. Mercs cause me big problems, mainly because the centre console sticks out at the bottom forcing my left foot to the right, and the sloping floor. Add to that the crash box we have is a ball ache to use so gives me a lot of bother with my arm.

Got into a Scania, which is now my daily vehicle, never had a problem since

Spot on Conor,
Had the same problem myself. Turned out to be the 3rd & 4th vertebrae in my neck which had been pushed down Due to weight carried over the years and posture. It can be sorted though so don’t stress. Two simple 10 min sessions a day of pulling my shoulders back instead of sitting or standing slumped forward, (you’d be surprised how many do it without knowing) and lifting your neck up will work wonders. Did for me.
But not doing anything about this is not an option.
