We brought the Thornycroft out of Blackburn (in bits) in 1990 on an old M/E tilt, and which had been knocked down to a flat - Bowker 35. As soon as the Thorny came off it in 1991, it went for scrap.

R. Maudsley & Sons of Blackburn later became East Lancashire Warehousing.

Unfortunately after 90 years the family run business went into administration in April 2011 and ELW was wound up.

Nice photos Paul - the Atki looks rather distinguished in their livery

Not quite Blackburn, but very close.

Would he have painted this rare beast by any chance?

Possibly moomoo, he worked there after leaving the army in 1945 till they closed in 1968.maudsleys were a regular customer as were j&e transport,dt & n kieghley, jacks motors, cormar carpets, tillotsons burnley, jack brooks, tom martin, just to name a few regular customers of motor bodies(Blackburn). nice pic by the way,all trucks primed ,undercoated,2-3 top coats, sign written by hand, lined and then 2-3 coats of varnish,my dad didn’t signwrite but he was a top class liner.bygone trades nowadays sadly. he learnt his trade with blacburn corporation transport before ww2.
