Stobart plot thickens!

So they’re going to “parachute” in the previous chairman of Eddie stobart and current owner of WS transportation to fix them up.

What’s betting that Eddie comes back from the dead and somehow buys WS transportation, or Eddie continues the slide and WS eats them up on the cheap. It’s all looking very incestuous.

My money is on Eddie going ‘bust’, so that whoever takes it over, can write of any debts and monies owed, and continue the business without having to pay millions in licence fees to use the brand.

This whole fishy business has been in the making for a long time.

It wasn’t exactly based.on wonderful ethics from the get go, but I don’t know who owns the brand name.

Didn’t they have to pay a lot to keep calling it Eddie Stobart as the family owned it but not the company / group / iffy consortium.

As for writing off the debts, not sure if that would be allowed as creditors are still owed monies and there are plenty of assets (unlike many companies). Will get more complex when accountants and lawyers get involved.

Where does Dbay fit into all this? Could flog it on Ebay.

What assets… [emoji102] Dunno if they own Rugby truck stop or lease the land. I heard they lease Warrington off the council.

Surely if it the brand name was owned by the family then William would have more rights to it that mr tinkler and Stobart group.
But yes as you say, it’s very fishy and clearly WS was set up for this exact purpose. William knew stobbies would end up in trouble so set up a new vehicle to take it over and keep the name.

As for the DBAY offer of 50m for 51% of the co at 18% interest or whatever it was, better going just as that amount at that rate it’ll only be a matter of time anyway, plus the current shareholder would be diluted to nothing. Non starter.

Let’s just hope that whatever happens, the staff don’t end up skint for Christmas.

They are definitely recruiting new drivers so it’s business as usual.

It’s business as usual till they run out of money come January unless a bailout or takeover is agreed. They will be recruiting drivers to replace the savvy ones who are jumping ship and those agencies who have stopped sending their drivers in there as they aren’t sure if they will get paid for the work. I’ve read they are losing 12 million pounds per year and are 200 million pounds in debt.

It is a decent enough job, particularly for new passes as the work is easy and the kit is new. If they do go under I’m sure most will just transfer over to whoever gets their work though so there’s that. I just hope they pay the drivers for what they’ve done if the worst happens.

The company as is now own nothing, it’s all rented or leased, or buy back to a shell company, the name Eddie stobart is owned by the family, as that’s a ‘brand’ It’s all smoke and mirrors, the top men won’t suffer any loss, just those below them, a normal day in corporate trickery.

The name / brand rights are owned by Stobart Group (biomass, airports, rail etc) and licensed (at considerable expense) to Eddie Stobart Logistics (the trucking side which was sold a few years back) I think you’ll find the WS integration is already starting, there’s plenty of WS units pulling green trailers at the moment ,but interestingly not the reverse, Stobart units won’t be found pulling WS trailers nor for example are Stobart units allowed to use WS yards yet WS units are starting to show up in ESL yards…

The majority of depot operations managers have been made redundant (not surprising to me the “management” at depot level is what made me leave…

Yes they are recruiting and knowing the management structure is being dismantled and William likely to make a return/takeover I’m very tempted to go back, I was there previously for 11years, the majority of which was absolutely fine despite the perception of ESL in general.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens, I suspect the Eddie Stobart name will go from the trucks (I’d imagine it’s lost its value as a commodity / brand now anyway) but wouldn’t be surprised to see WS becoming William Stobart emblazoned on the trucks…

We shall see.

Yes kwj WS is ‘young Stobarts’ firm . Ed is the E. Stobart listed. Not saying he’s a front man but might have been a bit young at the time without the family’s backing.

Ed went from doing groundskeeper work at Appleton to running WS, must be a lot of money in cutting grass…

It’s WS for a reason and that’s nothing to do with Ed!

Handed a business on a plate, and usually have no concept of the real world, or ever had to do a proper job in their lives,.apart from the ‘token’ job of the type you mention to make them feel like ‘they’ve worked themselves up’…yeh right. :unamused:
I bet he’ll be a pleasure to work for…not ! :imp:

From what I’ve heard and I have no direct knowledge Ed is a decent enough lad in the mould of uncle Edward.

Whilst he’s clearly backed by his dad, as said he’s very much like his Uncle & old man, it’s in their blood, yes he’s been put in “charge” of WS but from one hell of a background to know more than most similar owners kids in similar situations.

Know a few who’ve gone to WS and not had any negative feedback other than the general crap of this job as a whole rather than against WS as an employer, Ed, like his dad can be very hands on.
