“DEANB” Dont think we have had a Mullard truck on before, anyone know anything ■■

Dave.

“DEANB”

Now “robroy” i seem to remember you mentioned that you drove for Ewals ■■ so heres a few more.

Cheers for that.Dean.
The trucks I drove pulling for Ewals in their colours were MANs (including the older models) a DAF, and a Scania on an R reg.
I think you put one up a few months ago, an XXL MAN, but it was not one the motors that I drove…but I keep living in hope mate.
The pic with the left ■■■■■■ Scania Topliner was my era, they belonged to MTC (Mega trucking co) based in Zeebrugge and a depot at Alconbury, my ex guvnor in Colchester broke away from MTC, most drivers were Brit drivers home based.

No more of Ewals Rob as thats all of Pauls. However we may get more from Mark in the future,we will have to wait and see chap.

windrush:

Buzzer:
Hi Dean Mullards had a factory in Southampton on the right as you went into the town and they were part of the Philips group.
As for SFM specialist freight movements they had a yard near Cobden bridge in Southampton and had a contract out of ISR in Fawley refinery doing synthetic rubber to packing units at Membury airfield and at Yatesbury run by Sym’s of Calne. I had two trucks on that work back then, two loads up and one back of salt stored at Yatesbury every day and we knew every pothole on that road that’s for sure. Buzzer

Thanks for the comments on those two companies Buzzer. Sym’s of Calne thats another old company gone unfortunately. Used to like
seeing there motors on the road, anyone know if they were bought out ■■?

They were a famous electronics components manufacturer especially known for their cathode ray tubes used in TV’s and wartime radar development. There was also Rediffusion at Chessington which was another big domestic TV manufacturer.

Wasn’t that Mullard artic one of London Carriers who contracted for Phillips group? I saw them on A1 when I was on nights.London Carriers had a depot in Blackburn as well.Maybe the Phillips group owned London Carriers?

The ERF with the XTRA box is one of George Davies from Liverpool.

Only joking mucker, impossible to remember them all from so long ago and i am surprised you remember so many.

windrush:
Were Mullard based at the Hatfield area? I used to caravan with an old lad (now deceased) who was an apprentice there before the war and cycled to the factory from Camberley on Sundays and cycled back home on Friday evening, he slept at the factory during the week!

Pete.

Its amazing what people have, and do to earn a living. Although sleeping at the factory was no different i suppose than sleeping in a truck
all week ! :unamused:

Happy New Year Chris ! Your right London Carriers were owned by Philips but I believe they did a certain amount of third party work for other customers. IIRC Philips had a factory in Burnley. Cheers Dennis.
