A number of those old FL10 tractor units and prime movers were painted yellow and converted into yard shunters.
After coming off the road they were knocking about for years in depots.
New on the 2nd of October 1997 this one was taken off the road in August 2005 and converted into a shunter.
After suffering accident damage in the depot it was written off and scrapped in January 2012

Nice pics Paul .Made sense to use them old Volvos as shunters.

Thanks for your intresting comments Chris ! Bit of a difference if you are a driver between the Merc and Atki !

Absolutely - wouldn’t want to be saddled with the Merc :open_mouth:

I know some of those Mercs were gutless and i dont know what engine that one had in it, but you cant
deny they were very comfortable motors to drive Chris !

How did the 320 Gardners perform in the Riding fleet were they well regarded ?

We had 4 ERF “E” Series fitted with Gardner 6LYTS
3 of them were trouble free and the other was a lemon
Also we had 2 Seddon Atkinson 401s with the 6LYTS again 1 was trouble free and the other 1 troublesome but not as unreliable as the ERF

Thanks for your comments John and Gary.

Civil & Marine ran several Scania 124L 400 tractor units.
This particular one, Reg No R561 YNO, became a wrecker and was stretched with a third axle added.
