If you're struggling to find work, there is hope

Got to a job via agency this morning and this other agency guy turns up… I’ve seen homeless junkies more presentable than he was. His beard seemed to be holding half his breakfast, he had a tatty pair of track suit bottoms full of holes and stains all over them. I’ve honestly not seen someone so bad in years. I’m not one to generally judge others (much lol), but come on, is it really too much to at least look presentable?

I thought he must be a mutts nuts specialist driver but no, took a 7.5 tonner out and when I got back and doing my paperwork, he rolls back in the yard with the wagon and one side of the curtains has a rather large bulge in it where the loads gone all over the place… the TM seen it out the window and said ‘Ffs, he’s done it again, that bloke is a ■■■■■■■ brain dead moron’.

So my thinking is, if you are struggling when someone like this chap can get called in because companies are desperate, you can dress yourself and eat all your food, it’s only a matter of time until you get given a shot.

Never really had issues getting a job but I live near the docks and near London.
I always just register with a crap load of agencies and go from there I always end up with a phone call after a few days.

I find a lot of people who struggle to find work wont touch agencies or will just use one then wait for the phone to ring. I haven’t gone down the route of knocking on company doors yet but I’m sure that would be very effective, so worth a shot.

Look mate, I was running late this morning, had to rush my breakfast and accidentally put my blim burned dope smoking pants on. So give me a break! Yes today didn’t go well, the first customer was rude and said I should shave and brush my teeth to get the bacon out, the next told me I had a body odour problem, and the one after that said he’d take 2 copies of the big issue off me. So lay off mate as if that wasn’t bad enough I’m sure I was getting high off the bag of herbal I can’t locate from going through customs last week. As a result yeah I lost a pallet over in the back of the truck, but that wasn’t my fault, some dozy bloke gave me a hand securing it and he assured me it would be fine!

So when you’re perfect pal, and don’t suffer the hygiene, mental health, personal pride and iq issues I have, then you can criticise…

P. S. And yeah, you’re not far wrong with your post and assessment of some drivers… lol

Sent via TPN, so it’s either lost, damaged or late…

Just my take on things, but how do you know the guys situation he might look scruffy but no one knows what he’s up against,he might look homeless but he must live somewhere or he wouldn’t get a job with an agency.
Above all he’s there trying to earn a living like everyone else just because he’s not the tidiest he shouldn’t be allowed a job? Hardly fair really at least he is turning up and trying to earn money to better himself after all that’s what’s earning money is for.
Might get grief for the post but there you go

Can’t say I agree with you. Turn up like that at most other jobs, you’d get fired. I hate to come out with corporate ■■■■-talk, but you’re representing the company, not just driving. I must admit that I dress for comfort, jeans, t shirt, baseball cap, but I’m not unkempt.

I see what you mean didn’t mean drivers have to turn up every day in freshly washed gear but some people have to get a job where and where ever they can, some can’t help how they look ( yes some can I agree ) but how many in life have been dealt a crap hand of life and just by the fact they are out there driving to better themselves and make a better life for themselves be seen to have the ■■■■ taken just because they want to get on and get a better life for themselves.
Who are we to judge people just by how they look?..

Yeah, appreciate that. I wouldn’t take the ■■■■, either, but someone like that isn’t doing favours for other drivers, especially if the TM is saying he’s a ■■■■■■■ moron. You can get an entire outfit and have change out of a 20 quid note from Primark, if he’s that hard up, surely his employer/agency wouldn’t mind too much about sorting him out if he’s in dire straits (I mean, they’ll uniform drivers, so doubt a few quid for stuff from Primark is an absurd suggestion).

Decent point Jeff.

Although I got talking to a homeless tramp the other day after giving him ten bob for a cuppa. I asked him if this was the lowest point in his life.

Rather surprisingly he replied " No Son, I used to be a rigid agency driver ".

You seem to completely miss the OP’s point - which as I read it could be more or less summarised as follows:

If a guy can get work looking like that, then there’s a bit more hope for anyone else (who is currently trying to find work)

I didn’t see anyone actually say he shouldn’t be allowed a job - Wondering how he managed to get one is not the same as saying he shouldn’t have got one.

As for judging people on how the look, surely the point is that practically every employer will do exactly that.

I don’t think the OP was judging this driver, so much as thinking about how the TM would judge this driver.
