I went agency

ok so I joined to a few agencies at the beginning of the week. I have a couple of doors I’m just waiting to open but as yet they haven’t hence the agencies. Anyway on tue I joined one that a friend of mine works for. He said “I’ll get you what ever job you want”, I laughed and brought up the lack of experience to which he replied “ANY JOB YOU WANT”. So true to his word I told him I want tipper work. A phone call yesterday “Hi Danny, get your arse over to … at 7:30 friday morning. You’ll do a day with an old hand and then you are on your own. It’s a 6mth contract so keep your nose clean”. So as of 7:30 tomorrow morning, I’ll be doing my first paid driving, kind of bricking it if I’m honest.

Well done Danny, so there are jobs out there, you just have to look and be willing to work wherever. Did you manage to get close to your home or have you far to travel? Good luck and all the best,
Paul

I’m known by name at most local companies now. I’ve been in at least 3 times since the mid of Jan, I have a few door there just waiting to open but in the mean time I get to cut my teeth on tippers.

It’s great that you’ve found work, but I assume you did enquire about the rates ?

The reason I ask is because being a cynical old [zb] I can’t understand how any agency could offer to get you any job you want, it sounds too good to be true.

£8.50 an hr PAYE or £10 ph umbrella. so £8.50 an hr. keep in mind it’s agency and class 2. I know it’s not top line wage but I can ride it out for the 6 mths giving me close to my 180 days experience required to gain most rolls.

Fair play to you Danny, I hope it all goes well for you, I’m sure it will

the company runs 40 tippers and only carries 10 direct drivers. As for the getting any driving job I want, I don’t know how my mate got me the roll, maybe my 7.5t experience. I don’t think I want to know either to be honest. It’ll all be above board but I’m not ruling out that he now owes a hefty favor to someone.

Nice one mate, not what you know its who know

Aint that the truth.

Well done and good luck bud.

well I survived, there were times were I thought I was going to be thrown out the window and bogged down to the axles (sh*te tip site) but I passed the evaluation shift and I’m on for the foreseeable  the only thing I didn’t like about the shift was that out of 20 new trucks I got the ‘banger’ which was not new…

When you put your first ding in it you’ll be glad it’s the banger you’re driving 'cos no-one will give a monkeys!

Well done Danny_b I’m pleased for you. You’re another example of the get out there and go for it approach; I wish you well.

Well done fella.

The 7.5t work I bet more than went in your favour as you have already driven larger motors than Joe Bloggs who has only driven large motors in training and taking a test… you also have pre knowledge and use of Tacho regs that’ll go in your favour…

Thanks guys. I wasn’t looking forward to the shift yesterday if I’m honest, the whole situation was a little daunting. However I am looking forward to monday, I just hope I am not tipping in the same site. I will be taking dash cam with me on monday just in case I am. It was a terrifying experience, it was the first time I had driven anything that size and the first time I had it slide out on me while going down a huge soaking wet muddy slope. Getting back up it was something else as the diff locks are buggered but like I said, I survived to go at it again on monday.

We’ll done mate! I’ve been doing hand ball in class 2 for the last 2 years! Now just been offered a job on the tippers was thinking about saying yes but your staring to scare me now:-/ lol!

TAKE IT!!! I’d give my left nut to do this day in, day out. I love driving tippers.
