Kids in trucks

Operators/TM’s

Does anyone take their kids out on the occasional run any more? My oldest is really keen to come out on a run after the obvious plague of eternal doom is over! Reason I’m asking on here is I wanna get a feel for if it’s still doable before asking stupid questions. Kid is 9 so would do as told ie stay in the truck and don’t touch anything etc. cheers guys!

health and insanity rules that out if your delivering to anywhere with a hi viz cabbage of a security guard at the gatehouse.
jf he can hide on the top bunk and keep quiet then fair enough, otherwise the pleb at the gate will take great pleasure in refusing you entry.
most companies will refuse passengers anyway, though if yours is ok with it,and your not delivering to rdc gulags ect, then fair enough, otherwise, its a nono.

Cheers for getting back to me, I’ll ask at work. Only gonna take him if the company is ok with it, don’t want to invalidate the insurance on someone’s expensive workhorse.

it wont invalidate their insurance at the end of the day,itl just mean that you get your jotters if you get reported,or at least one of those last warning/ debrief/gross misconduct thingys that will vary in severity depending on how well your face fits.

i’m afraid that boat has long left port mate. I used to go with my dad in the 60’s even when he first started on the petrol (regent) it was doable… different world today… :frowning:

it will all depend on your employer, the insurance company and the work you are doing, one of our local lads who is single parent sometimes has his daughter with him, and as its a local skip truck there is not a problem with security or major companies with h & s hitlers, I take my grand daughter with me in my own trucks but they are private vehicles, when on euro I used to take the wife, ask your boss, depending on the work it would be fine, normally the insurance says no passengers without the owners permission. if he is ok then pack his sandwiches.

Starter hurdle would be the seat belt - you’ll need the suitable adaptor. It’s a nice idea, but puts a burden on others to accommodate you - just think,of the posts where adult drivers can get to the toilets, how will you deal with little Nigel! The company will be required to risk assess each job you do because of the young person in the workplace -your cab and inevitably other’s workplaces
In the nicest way possible, taking kids in the truck is best left to the old days and old ways

We are the same age, went out with my Dad, 60s and 70s. Great education.

Going back to the OP, a lot will depend on where you deliver to, lots of sites won’t let children on site.

We are allowed passengers but at our own risk. My wife comes out with me regularly, but we go to the same places every day, over a 5 day week, if that makes sense, and our customer doesn’t mind her going to the toilet at the branches if she needs to.

Its all about risk at the end of the day, and most companies usually say no.
