MIDDLE-EAST RUNNER FROM HOLLAND

Remember when going scotch (if from the south), or going down to the smoke ( if from the north), was long distance,
when middle east work was readily available?.
When a 111 or F89 meant you were truly the king of the road
Recall those companies long gone, where every day was an adventure?
What ever happened to those drivers you spent hours with.. where did they go? and recollect on those characters in the industry sadly no longer with us.

This forum is for us all to indulge in a little nostalgia and remember with rose coloured glasses how much better it was in the olden days

MIDDLE-EAST RUNNER FROM HOLLAND

Postby Gert » Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:45 pm

i`m looking for pics or other info about the following company:

the firm was called I.T.S , that stands for International Transport Service and was based in gieten , holland , they used to run a couple of scania 110 & 111 , a few daf 2800 & 3300 and 3 man F8 tractors , wich they bought second hand from the nijdam transport company , also an ex mid-east runner from holland

the firm passed away in the late 80`s , and some ex drivers told me that I.T.S also had a couple op english drivers on his payroll , maybe does anyone knows an ex driver or maybe does anyone has some photo`s from the company

ps. sorry for my poor english

Hi Gert,

Sorry, it's a bad photo only from the trailer. I make it in 1978 on the Brenner pas on my way from lake Garda to Groningen.

We knew it was a Berliet Oldtimer, I was being sarcastic :D about having to chose between a Berliet or an F86 on Middle east work. They have my respect for running down there with such equipment....especially the Volvo F86.

i think that this is the ex van doorn from hurwenen tractor , BG-18-LL , it was for sale in the mid 80`s , or maybe this was the first owner , that`s also possible

Image

Image
the same truck as the pic above , only now the pegaso 2080 with a non-tild cab is brandnew , pegaso was introduced in holland in 1974 , and was because of the low price very popular in the mid 70`s
photographer unknown , pic found on the internet

@old-timer trucker , can you tell my something about a scania 111 super ?? , i think that the name super was only used on the 0-series scania`s and the vabis trucks , and not at the 1-series :?: :?:

if you take a close look at the pics that you have posted , the scania`s that you call 111 super , are scania`s 110 super , not 111 `s

My question is, was there ever an 80/110/140 that wasn't badged as Super, did it denote a higher spec or was it just machismo from Scania, similar to the King of the Road stickers on the 142s :?:

The proper badges on an 81/111/141 were the same script as the earlier model but mounted on a black background & located in a different position on the grille, AFAIK there was never a Super badge like this.

yes there were some scania`s that didn`t not have that super badge , the name super was used for scania`s who were fitted with an turbo , and the ones that did not have that super badge didn`t not have an turbo engine , the super badge was there also in a very small version , similar like the scania plates used on the LS110 modell , and also the name scania was there in a small version , used on the first modells of the LB110 trucks.

sorry for my poor english

No problem Gert, your English is a lot better than my Dutch

I remember the 1st of the 110s with the small badges & they also had the mirror arms that were bottom mounted only, my dad had one from 1969, don't remember if it was Super or not but it was a lot more comfortable than the AEC that he had before  I never knew that they didn't use turbos so thanks for that info.

Now I know you're the expert on Scanias, can you tell me the difference between a 111 with 275hp & a 111 with 305hp, it was too early for intercooling so what was it :?: Apart from 30hp of course
