Check motor the word engine is obsolete.Probably no point anyway electric motors usually burn out without any warning one minute they are working fine 30 seconds later they are a smoking pile of toast. At least that’s how my vacuum cleaner expired.

Overhead power lines on motorways to charge batteries whilst driving…Hmm, might work fine along a dedicated test track but Catenary along Motorways? the golden rule of Trolleybus driving was always: “never but never, overtake the one in front”.
The system is going to work well in that case. Apart from all trucks confined to a crocodile along the nearside lane, what happens when one breaks down?.. all stop. Trains don’t run only a few feet apart either. They set up a wave in the overhead when at speed, that is going to cause problems both ultra-short and long term. Trains pull down the overhead without needing to derail or worse, and they don’t have accidents very often - a bit different from what happens everyday on our motorway network.
Battery pack and recharge whilst driving.
Change lanes, be autonomous for a few hours doing drops, get past dead sections.
No need to have every inch of every road covered.
.
Ed
And no need to park for hours recharging.
.
It won’t work for all situations on day one. Nothing does. The first petrol cars didn’t have an Esso on every corner.
So is there anywhere in the World where this has been tested successfully on roads in realtime conditions rather than dedicated controlled test tracks? I think it’s an idea for the birds that has no future.

The Pantograph is usually spring loaded with a means of lowering it. That lane change manoeuvre is going to work so well when an aimer forgets to lower it and it brings the catenary down on top of following traffic when he pulss back in again. I hate to think of the results when it lands on top of a following hazardous load.
Reoccurring polar shifts, 5 ice ages (that we are aware of), during this ice age that we are living under there were 11 interglacial periods, so far (i.e. interglacial periods are periods inside an ice age where glaciers retreat.) Constant continental shifts and drifts. But some humans think that they are all powerful beings that can stop a cosmic cycle or even manage it before they manage to get out of their own solar system? Delusions of grandeur comes to mind.
If the concern is the survival of the species, getting out of earth as soon as possible should be the main focus. It is a matter of time before the sun becomes a red giant and scorches the planet. Electric cars and recycling wont save even the most simple unicellular organism.

This issue has more to do with collective self feeding hysteria, based on Sagan’s musings the that CO2 cooked Venus rather than it being 30 million miles closer to the Sun combined with a ground atmospheric pressure of 90 bar.
As opposed to our 1 bar which is still enough to create the temperature difference between the top of mount Kilimanjaro and its base even at this distance from the Sun.
While the Polar ice caps melt and retreat every Spring and refreeze every winter no one has ever cooked or drowned because of it.
"The Geely subsidiary Farizon Auto has just presented an electric semi-trailer truck called Homtruck with an architecture that can carry different zero-emission powertrain options. Production start and first deliveries are planned for early 2024.
The Homtruck architecture can accommodate the powertrain options of a range extender, methanol fuel cell hybrid and a purely electric version with a battery-swapping option. Both the fuel cell and battery swap options offer faster tanking, the company says the latter should only a matter of minutes."
“The name and concept of the Homtruck is based on the idea of a driver’s home-away-from-home in the truck’s spacious cabin which will have its own toilet, shower, single bed, refrigerator, tea maker, kitchen, and even a small washing machine.” electrive.com/2021/11/09/ge … -revealed/

That’s as credible as the idea that small cab can house a toilet, shower and washing machine. While it’s all going to create a foul damp atmosphere in the cab regardless without some serious air extraction.
For the idea to work it’s going to take the NZ 6/8 wheeler rigid and 5 axle trailer type LHV.
That would provide more than enough battery carrying capacity and scope for the larger cab with the battery packs at the acceptable expense of the prime mover’s payload.
If not LPG transitioning to Hydrogen fuelled ICE as an option for more payload.
But that isn’t the government’s intention anyway.
The government has already stated an intention for large scale switch from road to rail for distance traffic with rail freight terminal RDC’s transhipping onto smaller trucks like 18 tonners in road distribution final delivery sector.Effectively sending the industry back to where it was in the 1920’s/30’s.No place for artics in that environment.

Huge cab on this thing complete with it’s own external kitchen sink. Yoke style steering wheel, that should be fun reversing & manoeuvring electrek.co/2021/11/09/geelys-f … t-in-2024/

2024 and al fresco cooking and washing up in a layby in january , not even a roll out awning to keep the wet off, heaven. but at least it has a toilet, somewhere probably around the rear axle or under the trailer.

It’s clearly within existing Euro/UK dimensions and not even as big as a 1970’s KW Aerodyne and no one would want to put a shower let alone a kaze in that unless they want a stinking damp wreck. Then they call it a semi in the deluded hope that US operators will rush to buy it.
No point here, with or without the kaze, because we don’t need artics in Boris’ plan for rail.
What can you expect from an agenda based on the idea that CO2 cooked Venus.
Renault have just debuted their Skip lorry, The skip business must be one of the most suited for electric trucks by their very nature.
The Mercedes eActros long haul with a 600km range, What say ye about it being long haul?
“The company is talking about a range of “around 500 km” on a single charge. That’s about 310 miles. Mercedes-Benz didn’t confirm if that was with a full load, but we assume it’s the case.” electrek.co/2022/09/19/mercedes … ric-truck/

I think that the trucks are going to need more axles than that. By their nature electric vehicles are supper heavy, before you load them.

That would just result in a reduced capacity of what they can pull. So, the contents of the trailer would have to be lighter is all.
Also if alot of the battery weight is at the rear of the unit it would in theory give it more traction. Compared to say a traditional Unit that has the majority of the weight at the front.
Saratoga:
The 6x2 electric rigid was a reefer so it will be interesting to see how well that actually keeps things down to -25 in the freezer compartment and +2 in the chiller compartment. If it can actually achieve its target, over the course of an eight hour day, I’m pretty sure that our company would get at least one for our depot. But it would need a dedicated charging spot, and space is at a premium at the depot.
.
We had a Sunswap solar powered reefer trailer on test a while back. It has been fought with problems I’m led to believe. And we don’t do frozen only chilled mostly. Kept breaking down so I was told.

There are different types of motor. Your vacuum cleaner is more than likely a brushed motor. A motor in a car is not. The only real item of wear in a electric motor is the bearings and rotor. That’s it.
An E.V. is a very heavy car. The tyres are going to wear quickly . I think that a few are going to lose wheels as the torque generated will cut into the alloy wheels.

Obviously why lorries never have alloy wheels then.
Surely there must be a way to install solar panels on the trailer roof. To recharge the batteries…or to provide power to the cab.

Toyota just found that out to their cost, Their new dedicated BEV BZ4X ev was recently debuted then recalled & purchased back from owners because the wheels kept falling off , Subaru’s new BEV has the same problems, How can two behemoths of transport get it so wrong!!! Way more instant torque on BEV’s.makeuseof.com/what-you-shou … ev-recall/
The Mercedes eActros long haul has a dedicated e-trailer with it’s own electric motors & battery pack, Can you imagine the regen from braking with a loaded trailer putting a huge amount of charge back into the traction pack. electrek.co/2022/09/19/mercedes … ric-truck/
