Multi drop pallets, love it when the customers say the regular driver does this and that for us, like stripping down two pallets on the high street to handball up three storeys to a restaurant or nightclub.
Thick customers that insist you must drag a ton of turf, tiles or paving slabs over their shingle drive using a pump truck .
Or they won’t keep the pallet or want tiny boxes stacked away in their garage .
I had one irate lady who wanted 12 pallets of compost handballed over her garden wall as the garden centre that sold it said thats o.k…
She lives in an anti lorry brigade village and locals objected to the chicken factory in the village.
As if by magic the factory burnt down, nobody got caught, fire started in multiple locations .
That’s what gets me about most of these places, is they’ll sack you off if you’re over half an hour late, regardless of traffic issues etc, but they have no stipulations about getting you out within a certain time frame. 3 drivers ran out of hours in Asda Donny last night. Took me 15 mins to get booked in (no queue) 45 mins to get tipped, and then 90 mins to get my notes. Bet it took 20 mins to get out too. Fella in the gatehouse must have had a queue 10 motors deep waiting to get in as well as out.
How can one firm be so hopeless. The new Warrington is lousy, as is Donny, but Washington and Wakefield are absolutely bang on.

Is the new one any better than Dallam Lane mate?
Loads worse mate
Our place pulled me out of there after 45 mins a few weeks back. They said every fella we’d sent in all day had been there the thick end of 4 hours (more for a couple) so instead of waiting until I was about run out of time, they just dragged me out.

I was starting to lose patience fast, with this type of attitude and carry on towards the end of my time, the attitude off some clerks and warehouse bods was unbelievable, and I dont understand why, they treat drivers like dirt, why?, an ALDI depot near Purfleet (cant remember exact location) was absolutely vile to myself and three other drivers when I went there a couple of years ago, unbelievably rude, for no reason that I could fathom, said you will be waiting to tip till we are ready, gave it three hours got back in the truck and went back to the depot with it, they were on the phone the second I went out the gate screaming and threatening, I was agency so wasn’t that bothered and didn’t get paid but **** em.So a paid by the hour agency driver didn’t like to wait to get tipped so took load back to yard then never got paid why? hours mean money thats what your there for
I think you may have missed the point, I was not bothered by the waiting, it was the quite appalling rudeness and contempt, I am an ordinary bloke who treats other people with respect, I will not be spoken to like I am a piece of crap on the sole of their shoe, there was absolutely no excuse for it.
Sainsburys Daventry, went there a couple of months ago for a 7pm booking, turned up at just gone 6 as they allow you an hour, Informed the woman on the desk I was short on time when I arrived and had to leave for 8 to make it back with a bit of time to spare. Give’s them 2 hours to tip and scan, easy enough considering it wasn’t busy.
Fast forward to quarter past 8, went out to check how they was getting on, hadn’t even opened the door and all 24 pallets was still on.
Told the lady I had to go as my time ran out at 11 and had a good 2 hour drive back to the yard, plus time to gas, fuel etc, and amazingly they could suddenly tip me right then, who would have thought!? 15 minutes to tip me then, and 15 minutes to get through the ■■■■ gates. Finished with 3 minutes of duty time left.
Hate the place with a passion!

So you risked an infringement, to accommodate the twerp? Should have either left without tipping, or run out of time before you get back to your depot. Let the company sort out the retrieval of your lorry.
Three minutes is to close a margin . Did you get in the gate with three minutes to spare, or did you manage to fuel , park and debrief ‘on the card’ too
Luke Vernon has a funny ranting video on YouTube about exactly this.
Companies insist on you having these booking times, and insist you turn up on time. Some are kind enough to give you a half hour window at either side. Some don’t. But even if you turn up at EXACTLY the time your booked in for, they have no intention of tipping you then.
I was 40 minutes late at one place due to traffic. We phoned them up well in advance, but they still kept me waiting over 3 hours before tipping me. But, I’ve also turned up at 5 minutes before the booking time and still been kept waiting 3 hours.
I turned up at a place once at 14:25 for a 15:00 booking. They have a rule of not being allowed in more than 30 minutes before and made me go away and come back.
I wonder if the people who sit in an office all day and make these rules have ever actually driven on a congested uk motorway? Or do they think trucks have their own roads with no hold ups so we can’t possibly be late?

It seems to get worse at Asda Doncaster the longer the day goes on. Got there 5.30pm the other week and was there over 3 hrs and people were running out of time then. However I got there at 6 this morning and was out within an hour.

New record for me today.
6hrs at DHL Liverpool.
Despite my hourly walks back to goods in, where I was greeted with “are you still bloody here?” Nobody gave the proverbial flying one.
But as for general rudeness and misery, my heart sinks anytime I get a run which contains the two words “Iceland Swindon” in it.

At our place you have two hours to tip, if you aren’t tipped in that time you’re out and the company gets charged for redelivery. Since we have to record what time we entered the site via a phone app, that 2 hours starts the instant you arrive on site.

2 hours for 5 pallets at DHL Tickhall. Arrive on site, get sticker from gatehouse and quote reference number, find somewhere to abandon truck, walk to transport office. Give ticket and quote reference number again. Get told to go see warehouse office, no one there, he’s somewhere on site loading trailers. Wait ages for him to rock up, tells me its not ready or hasn’t been checked and he’s out of there at 2pm which was in 20 minutes. Get told to drive to warehouse 6 and wait. 30 minutes or so later a forkie rocks up, says he’ll be back in 10. Wait some more. Another forkie shows up, beckons me round to where I see my 5 pallets. Get loaded, go back to another office to get load notes then return to the transport office to get your sticker for the gateman. 2 flipping hours! Talk about a zb about! Hate that place with a passion.
Probably been mentioned before, but Argos, any Argos !
3 & a half hours at Burton upon Trent last Wednesday for 7 pallets, then the Barstewards sent me to Magna, Loughborough on Thursday, 2 hours for 6 pallets.
Apparently they open some of the boxes to check the items, seems like they open every bloody box & play with the Bleeding Stuff [emoji57] (like Christmas Morning)

Managed to fuel and park ‘on the card’, debrief was a case of hand my keys in and GTFO.

Yusen Logistics at Ridgemont are a particular gripe for me.
No matter what time you get there and no matter how early or late you are you’ll be waiting at least 3 hours.
The part that really grips my s**t is the ignorance of the warehouse front office staff.
1st you pull up at the gatehouse (these staff are always pleasant enough) and book in with the addition of having your photo taken or risk not being authorised to enter the site. I’ve refused each and every time and although it causes a 5 minute delay of phone calls to the office, I’ve always been let in.
2nd; park up in the middle bays in the yard and go and see the booking in office. They are hidden safe and secure by a glass partition and probably for good reason too, as you can regularly stand there for a good 30 mins before anyone will even acknowledge you. Sometimes it can be an hour. A bloody hour for ■■■■■ sake. Somebody could at least speak and tell you what’s going on.
3rd: park on a bay, as and when one becomes available. Take keys back to office for another 30 minutes wait. Sit in cab for 3 hours. Get a green light and go back to the office for another 30 minute wait to get your keys back.
4th: Drive to gatehouse and let the guys look in your trailer before you can close the doors. Why I will never know. There’s nothing worth stealing.
5th: Escape, stressed, and fuming from the whole ordeal.
