Cant beat a good roast dinner. I do like curry although tend to avoid Indian restraunts as they cook in ghee which is why its very oily so prefere homemade curry.
i guess the upside of multi cultral britain is the choice of food avalible in restraunts and ingredints avalible to cook exotic food at home.
Just a quick tip if you ever find your self invited to an ethiopian restraunt take a rain check and go to mcdonalds instead

I had this from a chip shop in Scotland
Kebab meat
Chips
Deep fried pizza
Battered sausage
Chicken pakora
Salad
Chilli sauce and garlic mayonnaise.
All this heart stopping goodness for the very reasonable price of £6:50.
corresponds nicely with the title of the thread
That photo is a myacardial infarction waiting to happen.
Not if it’s from Scotland, it doesn’t…

Can’t beat a good Sunday Roast.

English… rather (BRITISH) food is as good as any other, it’s just many of the cafes in the UK sell crap - generally cooked by someone who can’t cook… probably got the job because she or he is willing to work for next to zilch… and hasn’t killed any of their obese kids yet.
One of the great things about our food is the British people - who are by-and-large willing to try just about anything, tis why we have such a wide range of international cuisine.
If you want to taste the worst British food on earth there are four particular places that stick out in my mind: All roadside cafes and snack bars, Lincs has the worst of the worst, truck-stops (Crewe is about the worst)… extra pound to eat the craap inside rather than stink your cab out, and worst of all food I have ever eaten in my life is at TNT Atherstone… how they make a curry taste that bad is incredible. All motorway services produce bile…
The best truck-stop / cafe in the UK is definitely Stracathro, Nr Brechin - side of the A90… Showers and toilets are not up to much - but the food is tip top for a cafe.
google.co.uk/maps/place/Bre … 03b6c2f889
If I’m honest, I had a half decent meat pie at Alconbury the other night… just let down by pss thin gravy and soggy chips… and the lack of a decent fresh ground coffee.
There’s a simple logic here folks. The Dutch (bless em) grow some of the best food on earth, most of which they sell to Dutch people and in the rest of mainland Europe. They then send the worst bilious foul tasting crap to Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s etc etc… Tis why there is a undeniable taste difference between the fruit and veg from Lidl… and naturally where you can - always buy from the farmer… at his gate.
There are only two requirements to a decent meal:
Good produce.
A caring cook.

Were your guts ok the next day
Dont think English food is inherently bad just no one cared and restraunts got away with serving sub standard grub for to long.
Thats something that has improved in recent years theres lots of restraunts and pubs that have upped there game and serve good well prepared and cooked honest simple food. Sadly to many msa restraunts cafes and pubs serving dross for the same prices.
English food should be the best with the amount of cooking programmes and celeb chefs we get rammed in our face everytime you put the tele on
toby1234abc:
On Msa’s it is burgers and chips or fried chicken outlets.Or fisn and chips in any town.
Compare the food with India’s using herbs and spices.
Mexico with Burritos and Tacos.
Thai and Chinese food.
Turkish food, but by far the best is North African food with Tangines and Cous Cous with Houmus.
English diet is bland and boring.Stodgy and bad for you.
Its as crap as you wana make it, just ask my bloody step son who lives on eating ■■■■■ like burgers, pizza, chocolate spread, and all manner of other crap I cant think of at the moment and then wonders why his face looks like decorators radio and has a gut like dawn French.
You can have a crap diet anywhere in the world, not just the UK.
Cant beat abit of roast beef or a steak IMO. Or a bloody curry if you can find one.
Last year we were on a coach on our way to Paris and it stopped at a rest area. That place made our MSAs look good. Dirty leaking toilets (and nowhere near enough of them); overpriced food that looked as if it had been waiting hours under the hot lights; 2½ Euros for 500 mill water, and the whole car park was strewn with litter.
I guess the coach driver had some incentive to use it.

It looks to me like what was thrown up AFTER a night on the beer
Me been Irish I’m a hoor for the spud dinner and the aul Irish soda bread, cabbage bacon and so on. I agree that it is a bit harder to get good food in eEngland…but I don’t think that’s down to the Brits not been fit to cook. I think its down to trying to park your truck outside the village pub of restaurants.
Hot pepper sauce from home bargains for 69p cures all or any boring food. On the road I can’t eat too much anyhow as it makes me sleepy!
Tbh the beauty of the uk is like the US u can get food from all over the world made by people from all over the world!
There is no bland British food, just a lack of imagination by the person who cooks it,
