Gee zus, I did not know this forum existed till an old truck driver mate told me about it. He did say there was some [zb] attitudes but after reading through this thread I think he misinformed me.
They are not just [zb] they are some of the biggest arrogant [zb] I have ever come across.
Let me tell you just because you have priority does not make you blameless if there is an accident.
A few years ago I worked with a guy who had a similar attitude to some on here. I am right ,you are wrong, so [zb] you. He was involved in a serious accident which he caused by his arrogance for not moving when he could have. He was adamant he had done nothing wrong because he had priority but he had managed to force a car to crash down an embankment and seriously injured an elderly lady.
In court he was told he was very lucky not to receive a jail sentence although he was banned for 5 years and given a hefty fine. Personally I would have happier if he had been jailed and banned from driving for life.
Yeh, that’s the way things are now mate in many cases.
There are more arrogant selfish [zb] s driving trucks today than ever there was.
Most are nothing more than car drivers with hgv licences, so they think that you drive a truck in the same way …examples of what happens when few real skills and abilities are needed to drive a modern truck, so now anybody can pass a test to steer one.
Others are the ones with the blinkers on going like [zb] on the limiter for their 9 hours drive time to the last second, cutting up, tailgating and all the rest of it, concentrating only on achieveing their excessive workload handed out to them by their boss.
So they have not got a minute to even stop for a ■■■■, and teararse around, as you say with a stinking attitude, with absolute zero thought and consideration for any other road users…you see these [zb] s everyday mate.
Cheers for replying, you seem to sing off the same hymn sheet as me regarding bad drivers. Notice none of the arrogant ■■■■■ tried to defend themselves.
To be honest I was not really sure if they were being serious or just trying to wind others up as I have heard this happens on here from time to time.
Cjacey:
Most car drivers wouldn’t understand why they are being flashed and many will automatically assume you flashed to intimidate or provoke them.
That said I do still flash them to enter off slip roads or when hesitating to pull in front of us as they’re clearly either less competent, stupid or less experienced than us and our flash maybe all it takes to give them the all clear and ease their mind.
Flashing them if they’re lane hogging or being a c$&t doesn’t get us anywhere so I try to refrain from doing that.
ITS ONLY BLOODY THURSDAY/FRIDAY…

I don’t see a lorry driver vs car thing. It’s just different personalities and abilities. You’ve got aggressive, considerate, nervous, calm. You’ve got skilled drivers, poor drivers, erratic drivers, inconsistent drivers. Different personalities in different vehicles.
I was driving a few days ago and passing a pair of lorries. Just coming up to the first one, tipper when it pulled out in front in my car from behind another wagon. The pair started an elephant race for most of the dual carriageway until a round about. I’d say an inch wasn’t gained in the race.
Welcome jakethesnake spot on mate…one of the old school it seems to me…The difference between us oldies, and the youngsters today…We are skilled, theyre still learning the trade, give em time eh !!
If I’m in no rush and I’m pootling along at 50mph ish then I won’t flash anybody in cos they are miles past by the time you flash them.
Sometimes I do flash people in to show off my spotlights tho…

I rarely if ever flash cars out. I’ll happily leave them sufficient space to get out but I want no ambiguity whatsoever so I leave the decision to merge or not totally up to them.
We all know what flashing the lights means in the real world, but obviously in Highway Code world it’s not the same.
That’s interesting. I know it can be misinterpreted but I work by the maxim a quick flash means you can come out, thanks i.e. a positive, whilst sticking your lights on full beam for 2-3 seconds to me is a warning or you charlie uniform…
Bit like use of the horn. I regularly use it on blind bends on country roads ( a few of them up here in Scotland, Crianlarich railway bridge from the east a good candidate) but few drivers do unless it is in anger.
truckyboy:
I only flash if theyve flashed me ( might be a fellow trucker ) or if they have a trailer on or a caravan…but not all of them thank you…to flash every car…will burn out my headlights before i get off the motorway…basically…theres far too many.
Why flash a car in? If he can’t judge 15 foot… Agreed re-caravans towing trailers. Will also often ‘thank’ car drivers when they overtake me if I’ve LH indicatered to them on a long road (i.e let them know there’s nowt coming, up to them to check it’s clear though) and they’ve 4-waved me back after overtaking.

Yeah but how many times does a car just sit behind you when you’ve indicated left? Then when you move all the way to the left they still sit there. Then you slow right down and they STILL sit there
I was pulling up outside a drop the other day because even though the yard is huge you’ve got to park outside and walk in first… So I indicated to pull in with good notice (was a wide straight road on an industrial estate), slowed down, stopped, hazards on and he still sat behind me for a good ten seconds before finally realising I was stopped
This is why I treat them all as idiots because they mostly act like idiots.

Lol. Agreed bud. But I suppose it takes nothing to be courteous and they cant all be ■■■■■■■■■ they?
Only do it on the long roads we have up here. Fed up of the occasional abuse I get sticking to 40 sat nav speed just 'cos it’s the law. I don’t make the rules ffs.

Ha . I don’t know. I peeled off at the round about. Saw them go round the roundabout together. Mind you I read in the paper they were still at it the day after
Ok… Any proof or are you just talking out of your arse as usual?
Touchy
Thank you for confirming my initial suspicion, talking out of your arse it was then.
Oh and touchy? Not at all sweetie, I’m made of sterner stuff than that, sorry to disappoint, but I’m a lorryist on the internet, I’m the hardest of hard men don’t you know .
Why do we complain about ‘Car drivers’ ? … When we finish work for the day or week do we not get in cars and drive them home ? Are we not all ‘car drivers’ ?

Because I don’t and have never brake tested a [zb]ing truck! That’s why!
(would have thought that obvious really but hey ho)

I never suggested you ever have, I was merely pointing out that we are all car drivers and believe me I have been brake checked by just as many idiot truck drivers, mostly tipper trucks
I drive a smooth bore (no baffles) liquid tanker and brake checking me is a very stupid thing to do and the liquid doesn’t want to stop when the brakes are applied, but there are idiots everywhere, not all of them are in cars.

That was kinda my point though Pat, we are not car drivers, we are HGV drivers in a car, that’s a world of difference between us and the average joe car driver.

I’ve pulled Welsh Water fresh water tankers and they are baffle-less too so I can relate to what you say, they can be … interesting, in their liveliness…

Pat you talk a lot of sense there. Sure there are bad car drivers but there are plenty bad truck drivers as well. It’s just a pity drivers in general would not look at their own driving before critizising others and try to learn they are far from perfect themselves.(normally).
