Why do car drivers do this?

albion1971:
I can read quite well thanks but the what you wrote actually contradicted itself.Nothing much wrong with my driving either but you are a very clever bloke being able to assess it over an internet forum.
Why don’t you have an English lesson and an Advanced driving course may work wonders.Have a nice day now.

The only person needing English lessons here is you, sir. ^

You say the comments made by Chas are spot on then you go on to say be prepared to alter your speed.Chas said he would not alter his speed.Get it right eh!

I don’t purposely drive past entry slip roads looking for an incident . . . I’m not a total psychopath !

I just refuse to accommodate drivers on entry slip roads by adjusting my speed or moving into lane 2 because I feel by doing this we are creating the problem.

We have to start making them think, make them realise that it is ‘their’ responsibility to find the gap.

I was joining the M6 south at J3 in my car at just after 0800 the other day. Seeing a lorry ahead and knowing he would be slow up the hill I hung back matching his speed but maintaining a gap. What got me was the cars that stormed past me and bunched together up his backside, then stacked up next to him as they tried to get ahead of the truck then had nowhere to go. Muppetry of the highest order.

Ok that is up to you but as I said before it is not the professional way.I take it you have never been on any advanced driving courses. It is bad to have the attitude we have to make them think.Wrong you need to think for them.
Imagine your wife or son or daughter passing their car test one week with no motorway driving experience.A few days later they try to join a motorway and find that when they reach the end of the slip road they are faced with a line of trucks that will not alter their speed or accomodate them in any way.Can you imagine how daunting that would be?
Yes I know car drivers need to learn but they are not the only ones.
I went from Glasgow to Birmingham last week in a truck and the further south I went the less safe traveling distance trucks leave. Some truck drivers just do not leave enough room between vehicles for even the most experienced car driver to get in a gap. There are faults on both sides but the biggest problem is driver attitudes as we can see on here and if they do not change the situation will never change.

You are talking out of your arse.

ive not been on any advanced driving courses...im out there every day doing it,for a wage and for pleasure.dont you just love those part time penises that have done a bit of a course and then see fit to preach to all us lesser mortals. its the same with these driver trainer types…they ponce around with their clipboards spewing out cliche after cliche when we all know the real reason they got off the road was coz they couldnt actually hack the job. i dont give a ■■■■ how many courses youve done,or how many letters youve got after your name…the fact remains you are not a lorry driver…therefore i don`t value your opinions on lorry driving.

That is your opinion. You have openly admitted not being prepared to adjust your speed which proves only one thing.
Are you trying to impress me with your French cos you cant with your driving?

I’m such a bad driver that no one wants to employ me. In fact, I’m currently begging 16 different agencies to give me a days work at minimum pay rates.

I can only blame myself. Who would employ me? I’m practically unemployable, I not only damage every vehicle I’m given the keys to, I damage innocent motorists vehicles too !

I am a bad driver . . . I must be punished.

I am not worthy. I should not engage in discussion with my intellectual superior. I should hang my head in shame & not enjoy the self flagellation bit at all. Thou art far more a superior driver than I. I bow down & worship at your alter, to me thou art Jesus.

Hey Jesus . . . WTF do you want me to do at an Mway entry slip road?

I’m getting a faint whiff, a distant, yet arrogant ‘SNIFF’ of SCF sock puppet here !

Not really sure what you are on about but I now remember why I do not frequent this forum too often.
It is meant to be a forum for professional drivers to have discussions.

Cant seem to get a decent discussion from many and cant seem to find many with a professional attitude.

You are one of the better ones though…safe driving.

Blimey this thread is now at 5 pages and Curryflask or Orys have even posted. Must be a record.

Chas if that is your attempt at sarcastic humour…give up…it is worse than your attempts to justify your selfish view on something that has been studied time and time again.
But hey ho some lorry drivers have their own ideas. That must be why we see such perfect driving from them everyday.
Courteous thoughtful never aggressive…now that’s a joke!

Without wanting to join the slanging match…

I just refuse to accommodate drivers on entry slip roads by adjusting my speed or moving into lane 2 because I feel by doing this we are creating the problem.

What do you do if the car driver is a real numpty and simply hasn’t checked and consequently doesn’t know that you are even there?
Do you just continue and allow them to collide with you, (because you have the right) with possible fatal effects, or do you actually take some evasive action?

That’s when the horn is used in the proper way.
Anyway a collision would never happen as you would be able to work out if you was on a constant bearing with them or not, if a collision does happen it will be because I have ran into the back of them (which also would never happen  ) , and if the front of the unit is next to them directly they are going to see it.

thats simply avoiding the issue I highlighted.
If as claimed, that you (I realise that it wasn’t you who posted it) would simply maintain speed and position regardless, would this still apply even if a collision was imminent.
Forget blowing the horn and pretend that for whatever reason the car driver (or truck driver) simply isn’t aware that you are there.
If the ONLY way to avoid a colision is for you to alter your driving… do you still maintain that you would hold position?

If they drive into the side of you, that’s their problem. You could apply your scenario to any junction anywhere. Do you also move into the oncoming lane on a s/c when you see a vehicle approaching a give-way on your left, “just in case they haven’t seen you”? No, you don’t, and the same logic applies to a slip road. It’s up to them to open their eyes and check there’s nothing coming from their right/rear o/s before driving over the give-way line.

If they drive into the side of you, that’s their problem.

So you wouldn’t have a worry stating, at a coroners inquest for example,
“the car driver didn’t see my vehicle and I didn’t move even though I had room and opportunity to avoid the car, because it was his problem not mine”

It’s a give-way - s/he crossed it without checking the way was clear. Their fault, no-one else to blame, end of story. Stop trying to blow this up into something it isn’t Del.
