a lot of them are simply not concentrating on the task in hand.you can observe them coming down a slip road…they dont even look in the mirror until they
re at the end of the slip…then its ohh crap, where am i?,ohh crap truck....BRAKE. you
d pull into lane 2…but there is garanteed to be a eqaully oblivious plank upsides, who has`nt for one second, thought that vehicles may require a lane change due to the junction.
so that just leaves slowing up…unless of course, you just thunder past and think ■■■■ em

Chas you like a lot of others on here seem to make up your own rules. You really should try to learn how to be a professional.
After much thought & consideration, I think my way is the best.
I believe that these drivers who enter the flow with a ‘leave it to fate’ attitude do so because 99% of the time they’re accustomed to the flow accommodating them. I think this is wrong.
An entry slip road should be treated as a ‘give way’ junction, I understand that this is true legally.
I don’t do many motorway miles & it doesn’t happen often. But I stopped pandering to the whims of lazy minded drivers a long time ago.
Legally speaking I’m in the right. If someone attempts to join my lane from a slip road & has an incident with the side of my truck, how am I to blame? What rules have I broken & how is this unprofessional?
Simply you are being quite arrogant by saying you will not adjust your speed. As a professional you should be making allowances for other peoples poor driving something a lot of drivers will not do these days.
Remember the said driver may have only been on the road a short time and as our driving tests do not include motorway driving we need to help these people and not be aggressive by saying I am right and you are wrong.
Its all to do with attitude.

How am I being aggressive?
How am I being arrogant?
Do you understand the difference between aggressive driving & assertive driving?
I like to think that I’m an ‘assertive’ driver.
After much thought & consideration, I think my way is the best.
That is the biggest problem with some drivers.Do you know the highway code? Have you ever been on advanced driving course?
There are to many accidents caused by drivers that think they know best.
I like to think that I’m an ‘assertive’ driver.
So, if I understand you correctly
A car is coming down the slip road and is going to arrive at the point of merging at the same time as you.
You will not move, slow or do anything to avoid a collision
OK , I can see where you feel that you are right and anyway a car will bounce off your nearside.
How about if it is a 44 tons artic? Do you treat him the same or do you avoid an accident?

Do you actually drive an LGV?
If you do, do you attempt to quantify the situations we face on a daily basis, or do you just reach for your tabloid arsewipe & go “Phwoar” at Rihanna’s paps?
What happens at Mway entry slip roads can be an interesting debate, if only that debate didn’t attract the mouth breathing, oxygen thieving, knuckle draggerz that seem to attempt to enter it !
Im afraid albion1971,you sound like the idots you describe.at what point should i 44t=56mph slow down for someone in
a car that should be doing 70mph+ and accelerate alot quicker than me
Do yo think it’s ok to pull out from the hard shoulder without building you speed up first
oh silly me i should just move out the way eh

Yes I do and have done for many years.I also take my driving very seriously and class myself as a professional.
As the years have gone by I see the standard of driving becoming poorer by the day.
Attitudes have changed as is very obvious by a lot of the comments on here.Drivers being arrogant abusive and downright selfish on the roads.Blaming everbody else but themselves.Somebody just today said they can’t keep a safe distance because of the roads ans the traffic. What a pathetic excuse for bad driving.
I used to be proud to say I was a truck driver but now I just keep my mouth shut as the vast majority of people class them as arrogant bullies and in a lot of cases they are quite correct.

albion1971:
You can help potential traffic entering the motorway by carefully moving over from the left hand lane, to the middle lane. This will help them join more safely. If this is impossible due to heavy traffic in the other lanes, try to adjust your speed to allow the joining traffic some space. Never get into a race with them. Look well ahead and see what vehicles are joining and how they are spaced, and consider adjusting your speed.
Yes all right and proper i’m sure but, highly impractical given the traffic on the Mways .The biggest cause of crashes on Mways is when people swap lanes either because they panic when someone is coming down a slip road and think "i must be polite and help them"or because someone has been polite and helped someone but is oblivious to the other traffic in the other lanes they have just put into a blind panic .Also the other reason for a lot of Mway crashes is braking ,the reason why for eg the M25 is a car park at rush hour is because so many people are entering the Mway incorrectly causing traffic behind to brake or move over again causing braking in the lanes .
Older than you and been driving a lot longer.

So how do you cope with 7+ cars bumper to bumper coming in from that entry slip road?
What do you as a professional driver do in such a circumstance?
What do you recommend that the rest of us do?
Should we adjust our speed & let 'em in? Or, should we force our way into lane 2?
Panic brake & cause an RTA behind us perhaps?
Most of the time I try and get into lane 2 before the the exit slip and dont move over until I am clear of the entry slip of said junction.
Saves me having to slow down for the numpties who pull into lane 1 and slow down a mile before the exit slip and from the numpties who try and join a motorways at 30mph
I can slow down 44ton in the length of a slip road and also get to at least 45-50mph in the length of a slip road, god knows why car drivers cant do it in a 1 ton car also has anyone worked out how car drivers can do 60+mph on a motorway yet struggle to do anywhere near 60mph on a SC?
p.s If you have a phobia of lane 2 like most drivers do then this plan will not work for you.

It’s clear from both your username and your post above that you haven’t driven on a UK motorway for at least 20 years. It’s the people that instantly jump into lane 2 whenever they see a slip road that are the cause of all the problems. They have created a monster where joining traffic now believes they have right of way and EXPECTS lane 1 traffic to move out of their way to accommodate them. This is the exact reason why they sit alongside you right to the end of the slip ramp and then get arsey and brake test you when you don’t move over.
The comments that Chas has made are mostly spot on - stay where you are, maintain your speed and let them sort themselves out, BUT, be prepared to alter your speed to accommodate them if you can see they’re about to end up in the ditch where the road runs out or do something else equally stupid. If you slowed down for everything joining like your “advice” states then you’d never get anywhere, plus people behind you would get annoyed if you brushed off too much speed.
Ok albion1971
highway code 2007
joining a motorway :give priority to traffic already on motorway.
check traffic on motorway and match your speed to fit safely into
the traffic flow in the left hand lane.etc
what cant speak cant lie

You know that for a fact do you? You must be know me then? I passed my class one in 1977 and have driven LGV’S, PCV’S, motorcycles and obviously cars ever since.
The first truck I drove was a 1971 Albion Clydesdale hence my handle.
What’s your story then seeing you are convinced you have more experience than me?
Isn’t that the highway code everyone reads when taking there test
