You could always be a professional and ease off and let them in for once.
It seems a lot on here blame everyone else and expect them to do everything correct and if they don’t they are idiots.
You never see idiot truck drivers do you■■?
Then the vehicle behind you thinks you are going slower and tries to overtake, or brakes and causes a line of brake lights down the motorway. This is the sort of comment that I’d expect from someone who has the theory, but not the practice. Most decent drivers will slow to assist someone if there’s no-one behind them, or move over if possible - and then sit there like a lemon because said car driver hasn’t a clue what’s going on.
No not if you anticipate the situation and ease of the gas a bit without breaking.Theory but not practice eh?
Drove long distance for 5 years.Petrol tankers in London for 12 and much more.
Its not surprising you see so much bad driving from trucks on the roads when you read the attitude of some on here.
Blame everyone else but themselves. No wonder our reputation has gone down the pan.
Your lack of real life experience shows !!!
Is that really the best answer you can give.Pathetic a bit like your attitude.

I stick by my point. If you slow down with someone behind you, even without braking, they will either brake or start to overtake. They know you’re going slower because they catch you up! That causes a chain reaction. If there’s no-one behind, that’s different.
My ‘attitude’ is that I will preserve myself and those around me (even car drivers ) to the best of my ability. But I will not let stupidity or ignorance cause problems for other road users behind me. You have to judge each situation as it happens and do what causes the least problems for those around you. Generally, there are more people behind me than the one plonker trying to join the carriageway without looking!

Congratulations on the CV
Sound awfully like the person behind you is far too close then but then that does not surprise me because very few keep a safe distance on a busy motorway.
Why do you call someone a plonker because he is joining the carrigeway and how do you know he is not looking.A little presumptious I feel.

If you think trucks need to slow to loose cars on at each slip and create bigger problems for other road users around them then yes, I stand by my answer !
I’ll whisper this quietly, Pops, but ‘…common sense…’ was an expression abandoned after the War - about when the Labour party went Hell-for-leather for us to become ‘diverse’ under Blair.
Maybe Google the ‘Mr Brown and the Bigotted Woman’ story
Thus, we shouldn’t whinge with wasted hope that ‘common’ will ever coexist alongside ‘diverse’ since it’s our fault for not kicking-off years ago

“Easing off” causes so many problems for other users though .One occurrence recently which prompted this thread was a car driver coming down the slip road faster than i was approaching it ,for whatever idiotic reason SHE decided to break and match my speed,i had already flashed her to let her in, i was “easing off” to let her in as i had a suitable amount of space behind to do this at the time ,SHE decided to continue breaking possibly thinking she would duck in behind ,i don’t know, not realising that the gap between me and the 40t truck behind me was rapidly diminishing ,i continued to “ease off” and so did she ,in the end we where both doing about 20mph causing massive problems for the poor sod behind me who probably needed a change of underware and a new set of brakes .The woman was left parked at the end of the slip road because she didn’t have the sense to go onto the hard shoulder, with other cars on the slip road wondering what the hell she is doing and being forced to enter from a standing start .
No easing off needed ,maintain speed and let the approaching traffic adapt to the motorway speed ,non of us 'umans is psychic i have no more idea what is going on inside some thick bints head than i do on solving the debt crisis
This programe wich was broadcast last night proves that the car driving test isn’t rigorous enough,ITVX - The Streaming Home For All Of ITV And So Much More!
The FULL car driving licence should consist of 2 practical exams/tests the 1st part would be basically as is,with maybe a bit more added to it, and the 2nd part would involve driving on motorways and other fast roads, covering joining and leaving DC’s and Mways and awarenes of large vehicles , and yeah make it a difficult test, cut the number of drivers down a little
And as for highway code excerts being on billboards ,go one better have em on the ns of trailers so the numpties can read it as they are attempting to join the motorway incorrectly running at the side of you doing their best to get into your blindspot

I’ve also noted that they will never carry on and enter the hard shoulder but must attempt to get onto the lane before reaching the ‘Pointy bit’, what happens if you enter the pointy bit, do you dissapear into another world, your car suddenly evaporates or even worse it goes into a point itself!
They never think to ease off and just join the motorway behind you, that would be using common sense and that’s where the problem arises.
I posted something similar to this post a few yrs back and how i was stopped by police car on M6 the jist was a young policman warning me for not letting a car join as the tool complained that i never moved over to let him join the motorway.
I had explained to the officer i was in lane 1 traffic in lane2 and was in heavy traffic, and by the way the traffic joining had to give way to me!
Well oriffcer tried to tell me i was wrong?, it wasnt until another officer stepped in and told him he was wrong not me.
and i was to carry on.
If he didnt know what chance has the average joe sunday driver.
it’s the sad world we live in now , " it can’t happen to me , and anyway if it does my no win no fee lawyer will get me a huge payout " . it never occurs to these numpties that they may not survive to get anything .
The ADI course is 3 parts. 1st part is a two part exam. Theory and then a hazard perception exam, 2nd part is basically redoing the driving test, and the 3rd part is the examiner will act as the pupil and you as the instructor. The 3rd part you get 3 attempts at. Once qualified for the first year an examiner will sit in with you twice while you are teaching to assess your ability etc. Then it’s once a year.
The reasons why they/we do it are complex & varied. There isn’t a single, definable reason so there cannot be a single, definable solution.
I’m very wary of anyone who claims to have the single, definable answer !
It is a problem. When I’m out & about driving I choose to not alter my speed for any reason when passing a joining slip road, I alter my speed (if needed) when passing an exit slip road 'cos rear ending someone is inexcusable.
Why do folk slow down on the carriageway when the exit slip road is clear ?
I will not alter my speed or path when passing a joining slip road because I feel that to do so would be counter productive. The drivers joining the flow from a slip road need to rediscover that it is their responsibility to find a gap & merge, I believe that every driver who gives way to another driver joining the carriageway is compounding the problem.
I particularly enjoy the brown trouser moments when several vehicles are bumper to bumper on a joining slip road. What exactly is going on in their heads? Do they think that a 7+ car gap is going to suddenly appear, as if by magic, on the Mway during their usual commute?
Interesting program, I think more training would help and teaching school kids to drive off road is a great idea. There are probably many here who learned to handle a car in a field somewhere.
It might be great if they had a chance to drive HGV’s as well.
Do people think it seems worse due to the amount of cars out on the road now. I passed my car test after 7 lessons, I was taught to pass a test not how to drive. It is similar to what we see on Trucknet now with pictures of Stobart drivers dropping ■■■■■■■■, theres that many of them there bound to make more mistakes percentage wise. Also, what with 24 hour news, mobile phones with cameras on, your lucky to be able to have a crap without being filmed! Just my opinion!
Chas you like a lot of others on here seem to make up your own rules. You really should try to learn how to be a professional.
A little snippet for you…
You can help potential traffic entering the motorway by carefully moving over from the left hand lane, to the middle lane. This will help them join more safely. If this is impossible due to heavy traffic in the other lanes, try to adjust your speed to allow the joining traffic some space. Never get into a race with them. Look well ahead and see what vehicles are joining and how they are spaced, and consider adjusting your speed.
