Whoops

Twenty quid says the company fitter gives it a whack with a hammer, puts a new wheel on and passes it fit for service

Looks like a moulded fibreglass / plastic fronted trailer ? Perhaps a descent headboard would of saved the unit .

I’ve got my doubts about the effectiveness of the blue and orange straps here at least if not all of them and using straps to secure steel generally regardless.

Realistically it it’s not placed shotgun/axially in line with the trailer and secured with chains as shown here I’d tell them to shove the job it’s going nowhere or someone else can take it.

Well, that’s it. The Carryfast has told us. Time to tell TATA that they know ■■■■ all about steel. And if I ever have to go there again (that’ll be a cold day in hell…), I’ll show them this, before I tell them that I won’t follow their company rules.

Never mind a job. 2at shouldn’t have a licence, it needs revoking.

And to add insult to injury, the bellend is stood like a ■■■■■■ with his hands on his head wearing his hi-viz…

That’s how we secure them from TATA, but, we put one extra strap to help prevent the coils shooting forward. 5 heavy duty scraps per coil. Respect the load, drive like a ■■■■ and nothing on this earth will prevent it moving.

Yeah I suppose I was  Swooped down on him like a (101st) screaming eagle, or in your case, a ■■■■■■ off Pegasus

All these posts end up the same, crucifixion. I’ve been doing a bit of agency recently, you go into these firms you get a set of keys and a postcode. It’s a real eye opener. The company your driving for is either too $h1t to get full time workers or paying $h1t money or too tight to have a proper fully trained driver full time.
So yes, this driver is now probably unemployed but is the blame totally his. I think not. The hands on head is a sign of the total helplessness of an individual who has done no more than get up and go to work for probably a crap wage. I very much doubt he even knew what happened until he got out of the cab.
I know I have done stupid things in my life that I have been lucky enough to get away with and that could have ended up with me being bell end of the year.

Didn’t say anything about not following any ‘company rules’.I just said if I was a carrier/driver,with the responsibility if the thing moves on the road,I’d exercise my right to decline the load and/or walk away from the job if given a job that involves carrying coils in anything other than in the ‘shotgun’ configuration. Also not using chains as shown in the DOT guidelines.

I think the poor driver got off lightly! Load moved, wagon is shagged, but no fatalities, which is the most important thing. I bet he learned many useful lessons that day.

There for the grace of God go I.

I can only say one thing now. There is indeed a god. The god who kept the top hat coils from falling off my trailers all those years ago. I must pay penance for the heinous crime of traveling down the road with up to three, yeh three , top hat coils at least thrice weekly for months… Just imagine the kittens that I could have killed…

Certainly. I did. I nearly lost half a load of tin plate off my trailer, when I was young, green, eager and stupid. It taught me a very important lesson. Corners? Slow in, slow out. Roundabouts? Slower in, slower out…

Steel and speed don’t mix.

This is a Tata load

Lucky it didn’t go through the cab

This one wasn’t quite that lucky.

I can see how that strap arrangement could easily go wrong ,strapping over a radius is never easy , that’s when you could do with some mega u bolts in the centre of the floor .

The only way to carry coil is in the well! That’s what they’re for FFS!
I have seen one vid where a rigid curtain sider comes to a sharp halt at a toll station, (Probably abroad), and he had coils loaded on the roll, came through the front of the body and flattened the cab!
Carried a lot of coil years ago, always in a coil carrier, never had a problem.

I’m not sure I’d feel safe even with that many straps on! Those Coils just look as if they are ready to break free even with the slightest driving error.

I can see why new and inexperienced Drivers would come a cropper if they weren’t switched on. Super smooth, controlled piloting essential.

Yeah, I don’t like the look of it either. Considering the amount of them that are shipped they ought to make a stillage they fit in with lashing eyes.

I’ve no doubt that it (probably) works, but that arrangement looks either like it’s been designed by somebody who has never strapped any type of load in his life (but knows the theory) or like it’s been strapped up by a newbie who has gone a bit too far with it, and used too many straps.

Maybe a steel cross, laid flat on top of coil, with eyes that drop below the top of the coil ?
Ill try and upload a diagram so you can all tell me where Im wrong.

I knows what you mean ,or even lifting straps sewn together in a cross shape or frame shape with steel eyes in the ends to hook in to ?
