While the O.P. has been a bit naughty I wouldnt be too harsh on him either.I know of roads that were NSL 50 years ago ,since then they have been dualled and had the bends straightened out ,then they go and slap on a 40 mph restriction. There are villages where the pub, post office, school, and shop have all closed so there is no need or point in walking but there is still a 30 mph.limit.

ah youve been to Diggle then
Well I think you seem pretty resolved not to do it again so bizarrely the system seems to have worked in this case. No more need to spit at the guy in the stocks, he’s paid his dues, done his “time” so to speak by court judgement.
I got a traffic light offence in a truck years back for trying to stop at a red light in an industrial estate whilst driving on snow. The lorry just skidded through. Young robo cop and his cyborg mate were sitting there and made a meal of it. Standard fixed Penalty thing. I never informed TC. Didn’t know we were duty bound. That was never covered on LGV driver training. It’s not in the driving regs Vosa sent me.

Ho folks
Just to keep you up to date…
Offence committed on 15/11/13, summons delivered by Mr Policeman in person 20/3/14
Court hearing 14/4/14, fine paid 26/4/14.
Costs £85, Victim surcharge £26 (■■?)
Fine £265 and six points…
They should be able to have a good party down my way at Christmas considering the £376 donation I’ve just made!
Thanks for all your advice.
Cheers
Paul
Let us know if TC drops you a love letter inviting you for tea and scones Paul, or will it be tea and lava bread ? !

OK, time to confess to the TNUK CSI Department.
Clocked at 58 in a 30 over a distance of 178 metres, time of the offence 23.55h. Calibrations checked of the gun at the time, even looked through it to see how it worked. There’s no escape from this one. Signed the form “no comment” and just waiting now.
I have no excuse, I was cracking on big time, enjoying the drive and looking forward to getting home after three weeks away.
So, let the criticism begin, but any sensible advice will be welcomed.
Cheers
Paul
I’m surprised at the time of day old bill were out with a radar gun, didn’t know they did it at night.
I would always check with the legal department of the council concerned to confirm that the changes are legal.
A couple of years ago I got stopped for allegedly driving a 44 tonner on a 7.5 tonne road. Although plod didn’t take any action other than advise me not to do it again, I contacted council and discovered that the ban was illegal as the correct procedures hadn’t been complied with.
It was a couple of months before it became legal and I also received an apology and thanks for bringing it to their attention.
One year on…
No invitation to a chat with the TC, no more speeding, fuel consumption has improved and I now “sit back and enjoy the ride”.
Drive safe

Pleased to hear it Paul, keep in trucking.

To be fair I know a few 30mph limits where you could cruise at 60mph late at night in complete safety, and modern cars are so effortless at 60 it is easy done, don’t be so quick to judge unless you know where it took place I guess…I am not gonna judge as I have done my fair share of silly things over the years, just been lucky and got away with them.

ive been driving like that for the last ten+ years… and loving it.
try it one day, you may enjoy it…

The speed limit is correct for the area. No argument.
I got an expensive slap on the wrist. Fully justified.
I got six points on my licence. Fully justified.
I have taken some voluntary driver training, which did help.
I’ve sold my car.
I chose not to share the exact location of the offence because it could be seen as perverting the course of Justice.
I’ve not exceeded the posted speed limit since November.
It was my own fault I got caught, guilty as charged, no-one else to blame.
Learnt by my mistake, time to move on (albeit at the correct speed!)
Keep smiling
Paul
Fair play to you!
It’s nice to see someone take it on the chin and move on.
Dipper_Dave:
Almost 100% over the limit in a 30, should be an instant ban.
We all make mistakes but this is stupidity.Shouldn’t be long before you lose your licence hopefully.
I thought when he said speeding and the way he was talking it was something like 50 in a 40,or 38 in a 40
But almost 60?
Sorry op,but you deserve to lose your license for that. Car,van or hgv, that amount over the limit is dangerous and out of order.
I’m not claiming to be whiter than white, far from it,but I don’t rip it like that

Bit harsh, the lad was pressing on fair enough and he’s had a slap on the wrist, no children were harmed and the fact plod was sitting at midnight catching folk speeding suggests that perhaps the limit may even be a tad low for the road? No need for insults!
Oh so because no children were harmed it’s ok? So by your reckoning it is ok to go at double the posted limit as long as you don’t kill someone? That’s a great philosophy. Except when he DOES kill someone it’s too (zb) late then isn’t it.
And the speed limit is not set for midnight. It’s set for daytime. Schools, houses, shops etc as well as how busy the road is. It’s impossible to have differing limits based on the time of day. Limit will not be too low based on what happens there in day time. The limit is the limit whether you agree with it or not

Bare in mind he’s done the crime and done the time, this happened a year ago!
I don’t reckon he’s gona be doing it again.
We’ve all done it, just by varying degrees of ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■.

Ive never done 60mph through a built up area.
The punishment he received was too low in my opinion but at least he is no moaning about it and has learned his lesson.
It is some of the other replies trying to justify it that are boiling my blood. It is clear that some people think what happened is ok “because of the time of night” or “well,no one was hurt were they?”.
Obviously there are people out there doing things like this on a regular basis and thinking its ok and even moaning about the police being out to catch them doing it.
Most burgalarys are commited between midnight and 6am, just saying

:? I think you’ll find that it is £100 fine and 3 points mate, no speed awareness course due to the fact we are and I quote " professional drivers " and should be aware of speeding and it’s consequences . Let’s be honest we all speed in any given area sometimes our luck runs out whether it’s in a car bike or hgv , that’s life.
Not quite true.
I posted a thread a few weeks ago that I was caught by the average speed cameras in the road works a Kings Lynn, doing 37 in a 30 limit.
The Norwich police offered me a Driving Awareness Course because I had no speeding offence for three years, at a venue of my choice, (I chose Port Vale Football Club), at a cost of £80.
You are not obliged to tell anyone, your employer, your insurance, nobody.
As long as you don’t get caught for the next three years, you can do it again!
Four hours in a classroom and 80 smackers has got to be better than 100 quid and three points!
While I’m on here I must tell you this, one of my colleagues last night told me he’d been nicked on the A14 supposedly doing 85 mph!
This has jut got to be worth a day in court to contest.
In the cabs of all our trucks is a sticker which says, THIS VEHICLE ISLIMITED TO 85 KPH.
Mind you,the driver says that now that the word has got out every one else wants his truck as it must be the fastest on the fleet!

What’s your point? The police should ignore speeders doing double the limit and go cruising around looking for guys in stripy jumpers carrying bags marked “swag”?
I see dozens of speeders every day but I can’t ever recall seeing someone half in a window passing a tv or dvd player out of it.
Speed kills. End of story. If everyone has such a big bee in their bonnet about the police only using this as a cash cow then perhaps everyone should stop speeding.
I read an internet story yesterday that said some police constabulery somewhere had made hundreds of thousands of pounds from catching speeding drivers. All the comments were about how the police should be out catching real criminals and they were just fleecing motorists and “out to get them” blah blah blah. Not ONE person thought to comment that this equated to thousands of speeding drivers.
