You was in a built up area doing 58mph in a 30mph zone in 44tonne JUGGERNAUT? Wait till the local rag sees that in court proceedings!
58mph. Were you in a car at the time? Also, was it a stretch of road where the limit had just changed from NSL to 30 or had it been 30 for a while, not that this is a defence.
No chance of a speed awareness course at that speed. They base it on a percentage of how much you were over (which was 93.3%), it will be a summons to court and points (max 6) or possibly a ban (up to 28 days) or if you plead you need your licence for work, a heavy fine (up to £1000)
If you end up with a short ban, no points will be added to your licence.
The road had been 30 for about half a mile with plenty of “camera zone” signs.
Not a thundering great 44 t juggernaut, a Seat Leon FR TDi hire car
I’ll take what comes my way, I really deserve it.
I’ll post a map tonight so others can be aware!

So, let the criticism begin, but any sensible advice will be welcomed.
Cheers

I have no criticism over what you did, it was a quiet time of day, you didn’t cause/contribute to a crash, that’s good enough for me. The only mistake you made is that you got caught but you live & learn…
Ho folks
Just to keep you up to date…
Offence committed on 15/11/13, summons delivered by Mr Policeman in person 20/3/14
Court hearing 14/4/14, fine paid 26/4/14.
Costs £85, Victim surcharge £26 (■■?)
Fine £265 and six points…
They should be able to have a good party down my way at Christmas considering the £376 donation I’ve just made!
Thanks for all your advice.
Cheers

Harry Monk:
The licence holder, i.e. you, is supposed to although no-one ever does.
A rare opportunity to have a cosy chat over some tea and biscuits with Ms. Bell and you are passing it up?
Almost 100% over the limit in a 30, should be an instant ban.
We all make mistakes but this is stupidity.
Shouldn’t be long before you lose your licence hopefully.
Don’t mean to get on my high horse (well she’s always saddled up and raring to go) but any idiot can speed, the true skill is to stay with in the limits and drive safely.
Hope you have learn’t your lesson, but I doubt it.
GOG47 - any case at court with a fine includes a victim surcharge.

Do you mean a map with your home address and a sign saying ‘Prick lives here’.

Bit harsh, the lad was pressing on fair enough and he’s had a slap on the wrist, no children were harmed and the fact plod was sitting at midnight catching folk speeding suggests that perhaps the limit may even be a tad low for the road? No need for insults!
The speed limit is correct for the area. No argument.
I got an expensive slap on the wrist. Fully justified.
I got six points on my licence. Fully justified.
I have taken some voluntary driver training, which did help.
I’ve sold my car.
I chose not to share the exact location of the offence because it could be seen as perverting the course of Justice.
I’ve not exceeded the posted speed limit since November.
It was my own fault I got caught, guilty as charged, no-one else to blame.
Learnt by my mistake, time to move on (albeit at the correct speed!)
Keep smiling
Paul

Fair point, sometimes text can add a harsher meaning than I intended. In this case however he is a prick. 58 in a 30 found guilty in a court then starts a thread on an internet forum on it. Trust me the blokes prick and barely worth my time. So I stand by my opinion and nothing will change it.
Keep smiling Paul, no map then…oh just another internet attention seeker.

Sounds like you should be a copper rather than a truck driver. In case you haven’t noticed, councils all over the country currently have a bee in their bonnet about reducing perfectly safe speed limits to stupidly low levels without any particular justification, except because they can. Where I live on the edge of ruralshire it used to come out of a NSL (wide, straight and level road) into a 50 past some set back houses then after about 3/4 mile into a 40 where it became a bit more suburban, which was perfectly reasonable. It was pretty normal to enter the 50 doing 70+ due to the straight road coming into it, but the council in their infinite wisdom have decided to make the entire 50 and 40 stretch all 30 limit now, and moved the point where the 30 starts about half a mile further out into the countryside where there’s the grand total of ■■■■ all as a reason for doing so. Cue 90% of the traffic still doing 60+ when entering the 30 because there’s no reason to slow down.
It’s entirely possible that it could be a similar case where the OP got caught and if so I would extend my sympathy to him as it’s a pity the cops have nothing better to do with their time than dish out tickets for making good, (probably) safe progress on deserted roads in the middle of the night. Now if he was doing 58mph through the town centre then that would be a different story…
What a bunch of minges speed trapping at midnight, bankers!
You only need to tell the TC if you are an operator licence holder not just a driver. In practice you’d only need to infirm them of proper criminal convictions.

sounds like what oldham council have done on both the A62 standage and the A635 isle of skye roads both now 50mph limits as far as the boundary with yorkshire where they become national speed limit so they are the same roads same conditions etc so why the drop of limit or is it a case of getting the scamera vans out ( for which they have created a bay on the A 635 ) to catch out the unwary ? and earn some coin and no i am not condoning speeding just questioning why a road is different speed limits just for crossing a county boundary

Thank you Silver Surfer, a straight answer to my original question.
