Who pays for you digi card

Big Truck:
For truck drivers its £80yr for cleaning uniform, states quite clearly on HMRC website.

Where does it say that? I’ve looked down the list at hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim32712.htm but I don’t see a general “truck drivers” figure of £80?

I have finally sent off for one  (my wagon is anologe ) but paid myself.
That said should I casually slip it in conversation to the boss he will say “Go up stairs and get the money from HR” :sunglasses:

I only see “Truck driver” mentioned once on this list (4th from top) and it states £80,
so that’s what I’ll put down :exclamation: :sunglasses:

Christ, I get £62.50 a Month to clean my uniform :open_mouth:
And best is the Mrs does it

But that figure is only applicable if you are working in the aluminium industry - all other truck drivers (unless specifically stated) are only entitled to a £60 allowance.

I thought you said it was “clearly stated”…?

Oh - and I just checked mine on the notices from HMRC . £60.

If your firm pays for your digi card ,medicals ,dcpc , boots ,hi vis ect take it as a bonus because he is not obliged to pay for any of them. If he don’t just get over it or move on .I am lucky the firm I am on for pays for these but if they didn’t i consider these tools of the trade so id pay for them my self. same as a fitter buys his own small tools the workshop buys the big tools. The truck is the big tool for us. no jokes about the driver being the big tool lol

Actually, your employer is obliged to pay for boots, Hi-viz, gloves etc (if they are needed for the work you do). Or to be more precise, he is obliged to provide them and make no charge for them (which means he can - and probably will - get away with the cheapest stuff that meets the required standard).

if the digi card had a picture of your truck along with its registration on it then you have every right to expect the company to pay for it, but seeing how it has your picture and your name on it then why the [zb] should anyone but you pay for it ?

The last time I had a digicard the leaflet that came with it said the card was
actually the property of the secretary of state.
So why doesn’t that prick pay for it? :bulb:

Best answer yet.

Yes. hse.gov.uk/contact/faqs/ppe.htm

Although he can’t charge or ask for money for them he can if it’s made clear in your contract deduct it from your final salary.

Unless you give the stuff back to him when you leave…

I thought you said it was “clearly stated”…?

HMRC will defo “query” the £20 difference won’t they

HMRC:
"Do you work with Aluminium sir because we’re really miffed that you’ve claimed this £20 extra for laundry expense  "

ME:
“Oh aye,
its called a Krone fridge trailer” :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :grimacing:

So it has gone from being “clearly stated” to “I thought it was £80” and now “I’ll wing it, lie to HMRC and hope they don’t check”. This is HMRC we are talking about - an organisation not known for a laissez-faire attitude, and with the ability to make your life a misery.

And all for an extra £4 a year in your pocket

If you pack your job in and your boss said I want your digi card back because I paid for it what would you do for another job ■■
Pay it yourself stop being so tight.

Spoken like a true national minimum wage flat rate “trucker”. :unamused:

My employer pays for everything I require in order for me to go about my daily duties; this includes digi card, CPC, PPE etc.

I’m guessing yours doesn’t?

■■■■■ to be you.
