been driving with tachos for more than 20years my firm paid for 1st digi card then expect us to pay for our own after that don’t know about everybody else but never paid for paper chart in my life why should I be expected to pay for digi card renewal every 5 yrs now
I see your point, I’m guessing it’s down to the company you work for as to weather they want to pay or not, but ultimately it’s down to you to have one to work/drive .
I payed for mine , and the Cpc and class1…
My employer pays for mine.
19 quid over five years whats that work out yo per day? Way cheaper than paper discs
You can claim back the cost from HMRC.

How is £19 over 5 years cheaper than paper discs?
Every firm I’ve ever worked for has given me all the paper discs I need for free…

It’s no wonder the industries ■■■■■■ when it’s populated with this type of idiot
If they paid for your first digi card then it seem to me they are not a bad firm to work for. £19 for a card eh…be a man and grow some balls an just ■■■■■■■ pay it and stop coming on here wingeing about it.
■■■■■■■ embarrassing or what?
Just pay for it and put it in as expenses, Just like you would for bridge tolls and the like.
If they don’t pay for it, It’s not a problem. Claim it back on form P87.
From the companies point of view though. If you leave them and they’ve paid for it, Then they would be quite within their rights to keep the card. You would then have to apply for another one.
Personally, I pay for mine and don’t ask for the money back. The same goes for most other things. That way i’m not owing them and there’s no arguments.

[zb] embarrassing or what?
The only thing ‘embarrassing’ is that you seem to think the reason the industry is ‘[zb]’ is that a driver wants his employer rightly or wrongly to spend £19 on a digi card.
Perhaps the real reason the industry is in such a state, if indeed it actually is, is the very same employers who are content to do work just for the sake of keeping the wheels turning to keep up expensive leases rather than for the proper rate, or any of a million other things which rank well above paying for digi cards in terms of general importance.
I pay for my digicard because it’s my card, it belongs to me not the company.
if the digi card had a picture of your truck along with its registration on it then you have every right to expect the company to pay for it, but seeing how it has your picture and your name on it then why the ■■■■ should anyone but you pay for it ?
Employer pays for digi card and medicals.

The last time I had a digicard the leaflet that came with it said the card was
actually the property of the secretary of state.
So why doesn’t that prick pay for it?

Best answer yet.

You can claim back the cost from HMRC.
Not quite. You can claim tax relief on the expense, which (for a basic rate tax payer) works out at about four quid.
I pay for mine as well as medical
But it is my card ( well sort of ) it stays wit me no matter where I work
A digi. card is the personal responsibility of the driver,if the firm pays for it thats good of them as they dont have to.
