A tough choice, but I went for Scania. I’ve driven a few of the old and newer V8’s and just loved the sound of that engine and exhaust note, the one’s I’d driven pulled like a train and were a joy to drive. The next would be the new Actros or XF105 SSC from my old firm, loved the Mega cab, nice to drive, lots of power too and in the big old DAF I could just find my perfect driving position. I hated the ridiculously large steering wheel on the MAN’s a few years back (don’t know if that’s changed…)
This one, it has a 3 cylinder 2 stroke diesel engine that sounds great, will run at 63 mph and does 20 mpg, it’s tax exempt and turns heads where ever you go in it.
as long as its got an auto box
A pegaso troner !
I’d like to drive the one that pays £850 p/w take home…
Seriously though we run Scania, Volvo, DAF and the new Actros and I’d take the Scania every time. Not as many gadgets but the drive is superb, great visibility and extremely well screwed together. Great residuals only reinforce what the second hand market thinks of them.
Incidentally, we only run autos, don’t miss the stick at all.
Only driven a Scania P series, MAN TGA (nicest truck ive ever driven) Used to driving Merc Axors. My ultimate trucks would be Renault Magnum, Peterbilt 379 or Kenworth.
F88-290 all day long.
But being more realisic, a Daf XF SSC 510
I’ve driven everything apart from a Hino (no probs for me with missing out on that though). By far the best drive and cab is the Mercedes Actros MegaSpace. The Volvo FH12 globetrotter XL comes in 2nd for me. An absolutely fantastic drive, gearbox is the best there is but the cab is too small even on the XL. I think Volvo have listened and acted by straightening the windscreen up on the new model and it will be interesting to spend some time in the newer cab. I am one for the club “What’s the deal with Scania”. The topliner cabs are great but I think you can find a better drive in an MAN and a Renault. I just do not understand the hype, and yes, I seem to end up in Scania’s more than any other truck. Scania’s still have the same mechanical faults as the model did over 10 years ago, you can’t tell me they don’t know about them as they seem to appear on every single Scania.
Gimme a Volvo anyday. You can keep the Scanias, makes me shudder when I remember the pain they give me in my back.

03 plate one we have has my boss says its cause of the German law at the time incase the power steering fails wether that’s true or not god knows but was always in the way trying to get in and out off the thing.
Drive a scania now but would love a go in a 143 centurion!
Yeah, looking at the results shows VOLVO has 115 points
Daf, Man, Renault, Iveco and others 99 points.
Any as can tell me about Volvos popularity? Their new lorries FM and FH16, service, reability, comfort or others. I have noticed DAF is curently the most used lorry compared vith Volvo and I beleive it has a more modern and roomy cab. But this truck isn´t so bad. It is a good lorry.
FH12
this is quite an interesting thread, some are only concerned with what pays the bills - very comendable and others seem to favour a truck with loads of power and dare i say a gearbox that does the work for you, why not? i’ve always been into my old school stuff, i bought a 58 plate MAN TGX brand new, it was a cancelled order and it was automatic(standard issue), dont get me wrong it was nice, my father in law drove it for me until i had to downsize totally, and then i took it on, but i could never gel with it, i just didnt like the fact i was always falling out with for changing gear when i wouldnt have lol. if it had been a manual i might have tried to muddle through the 1300 pound repayments - which would have ended this year, but i just could come to “love” it, my daf i have now, the one i should have bought brand new, as much trouble as it was in the first year of ownership, i think its great, i dont mind its not got flat floor, its a 480 but they’re not the best at getting up a hill with a load on - nevermind, there’s something that when i walk away from it, makes me want to turn around and have a look at it, when i’m driving up and down the carriage way i’m happy, maybe one day i’ll have a manual 105, who knows, volvos have very restrictive cabs - and i cant see the new one being a huge improvement, maybe i’ll be wrong, and scanias need to bring the windscreen further back and move the back of the cab further back - oh and soften the ■■■■ chairs lol!
yep, for me, i like my daf, old school - but not too old school. if i won the lottery i’d maybe have an xt built
Really not fussed, however choice would be a pre 07 XL cabbed FH Volvo with I shift. Why pre 07? Well no Ad-blue so NO London…Hate driving there so that way I couldn’t go in…
I’d like a blast in an Oshkosh HET.
Driven most things although sometimes only on short test drives when in for repair. Quite a lot must be voting for their dream drives as you would expect the makes with the most vehicles on the roads to have less votes as you’d be more likely to encounter them during your driving career bit unclear really, is this what you’d want every day or what you fancy a spin in for the experience?
I went for the truck model I’d have to work daily. If it was just for the hell of it, I’ve always fancied a play in a Tatra 813, them things just make me grin
Always fancied a shot in the new Actros but tbh i’d have anything other than the DAFs we have at work
In just over a week with my new employer, I’ve driven Daf CFs (54-07 vintage), Volvo FM Globetrotter (12plate) and a 56plated Axor. All were 6w rigids and all had good points CFs had the best bunks and passenger seats, Volvo the best gearbox (I-Shift) and the Axor best driving position. Worst parts of the Axor was the cheap bunk I’m sure the mattress was half the depth of the Daf) and ridiculous straight 8 gearbox.
I voted for the iveco, only drove one for a week about five years ago and want to see how much has changed. Maybe a trip to Lymm is needed to find out. Atm my scania is a joy to drive, the driving position is much better than in my last truck which was a mega space merc.
Ford Transcon with 13 speed fuller - THE best truck ever made IMO
Got to be new actros for me but wud be happy with any of the flag ships but wud not want a scania can’t stand em
