Which make of truck would you most like to drive?

DAF: don’t like the lag in starting off and too many false alarm warning lights
VOLVO: best gearchange software
SCANIA: can’t quite see the point of an auto with a clutch
MERCEDES: Actros is best seat of pants drive, like the cruise control/limiter stalk, but gives me a bad back!
MAN: nice…
RENAULT: not bad, feels like king of the road in a Magnum
IVECO: haven’t driven for a while, seem to remember they’re all right.
ERF, ATKINSON, FODEN, LEYLAND etc: best enjoyed at shows…

Number 1 choice on balance would be MAN, but I don’t think there are any bad lorries any more (No 1 nightmare would be Leyland Roadtrain).

I actually think the new FH-series look rather astonishing, hence my my vote for Volvo.

Nissan GT-R please!

M.A.N TGX XXL.
Yes, it has it’s faults like the oversized steering wheel, blind spot mirrors, over hanging fridge from bunk, huge windscreen etc. That said, it’s one of the most comfiest and quietest trucks I’ve driven and would be my motor given the choice…
I am a Volvo fan, but at 6’3", I just can’t get the seat low and back enough to be comfy…

I’d like to drive the truck in truck haven,s restaurant but I’m to big an not aloud

so true forgot about the warnings , you get warnings about the warnings lol

i voted for the merc , primarily the axor, used to work in general haulage great little truck for multi dropping with an arctic . now driving a volvo on supermarket deliveries glad i not doin any distance as i think i would be crippled with the seats/comfort level

worst truck is the coops 3 over 3 scanias , just plain terrible

Mine would be new shape Giga Space Actros or new shape FH, had FH from new for five years and it was still

going strong when it was given to another driver , although to be honest most new trucks are ok nowadays

although anything french leaves me cold , thankfully my boss buys all outright and resale on french is probley

only reason why we steer clear. Plus fleet manager hates em

I would like to drive the new Mercedes because I’m curious about them and there is slim chance I’ll ever drive one.

The truck I most like driving is my current '57 plate TGA. It earns me a fair living and is a nice place to do my work, it’s all I care about really…

ERF E Series with a 14 litre ■■■■■■■ and Eton twin splitter box, back in pre limiter days.

Non of the crap fitted to lorries these days as I learnt all throw the seat of my pants and sometimes shear panic but it stuck. Much more fun to drive back then.

Now your talking, Olympic cab 14 Litre 525, twin splitter, 3 stage jake brake and belive it or not air con(Vreg) best truck ive had, Fuel was a problem 4/5 at best but when your over woodhead 3 times a day (scrap stocksbridge, aldwalk) its not bad conceidering my current drive volvo fh 13 480 is doing 6.35 at the LEGAL 44 tons

I cant make my mind up between the 2011 Merc actros , 2011 Volvo FH or the 2011 Daf XF. All have there pros and cons. Merc has a nice driving position, nice to look at, smart inside, good pull up hills; Volvo is very comfy, like the accessory features, nice small leather steering wheel also, great g/box; Daf -massive! big bed, pretty cosy seating position, g/box bit slow tho. Not driven the new merc yet. I also cannot believe how utterly 5-H-1-T the CF DAF is compared to the XF…

funny but I wouldnt mind a go in a a Scammell Routeman , just to see if they were as good as my dad keeps bleating on about, failing that I;d happily settle for a Kenworth K500 , looks like an XF but on steroids

Merc and pull up hills I can’t believe I have just read those to subjects in the same sentence you must not run heavy 460 mega we got is poor up hills even empty slows down most of the old xxl Man’s trounce them on the hills with the 430 engine .

To be honest I don’t think any brand will suit everyone what I class as a good truck and the next man is worlds apart but for me would be a DAF bed scania engine with a I shift gearbox .

Failing all that series 1 Volvo fh12 460 gobby and few grand to get it how I would like it simple well presented and lots of elbow grease and kind of motor that’s not going to bankrupt you if a electrical component goes wrong , some of these moden stuff is actually worrying no warning buzzers from now on all new trucks will just turn around and use the catch frase Computer says no

A 6x4 FH16 750 :grimacing:

New daf xf for me please.

Read my mind, the new XF with the 12 speed manual sounds perfect to me!

Had an EC14 that I totalled in 2000, and nearly cost me my life. (Seperate story.)

Was limited to 53mph, (Don’t think the fitter liked me that’s why he had it done.) but as I was paid by the hour I didn’t care. Just before I got it, ■■■■■■■ in Leeds reset all of the top end, and from a standing start, it went like ■■■■ off a shovel until it hit the limiter. Not bad for a 340!!!

Once sat at a set of lights in Sheffield, solo, and along side me came a yoof in his XR3, music belting out with the latest 'appenin toons. Dropped it into gear, with the familiar clunk, and when the lights went green, we both set off, and before he knew it, I was 100 yards up the road.

Just goes to show, we are all still boy racers at heart.

Ken.
