Where best for 1st job?

Hi…

I’m starting my C+E course in April and (if I pass…) I’ll soon be in the market for my first HGV job.

Anyone have any tips on where I start with this? Agencies? Phone haulage companies?

I won’t have any experience…is this going to be a massive hinderance?

i got my first job with driver hire in bradford but within a few weeks i’d got a full time job by knocking on doors and asking to see tm’s.
Good luck there’s plenty of work if you’re willing to look for it.

Don’t limit yourself to agency or company, try them all and get out there and knock on doors.
I’d prefer a haulier because they have more interest in getting you to do the job properly and try the small companies as they are more interested in what type of person you are than what courses you’ve done or how many boxes you can tick on thier recruitment form.

definately try small companies. general haulage is a good way to gain experience quick also don’t just limit yourself to class 1 work once you’ve proved yourself they soon move you up.

Thanks for the advice… There’s a few companies in my area…I’ll go knock on a some doors and see what happens.
