£7.43/hr for first 45 hours which are guaranteed. If you’re ‘in’ with those in the office, expect to work about 38 hours. If you’re like me, expect more like 50, overtime being paid at £9.29/hr. Sundays (of which one in three is expected) at time-and-a-half which is £11.15/hr. Plus £20 a week attendance bonus. Job-and-finish with decent wagons and a good Christmas bonus though, so it’s not too bad.
Some artics should be coming for trunking, and as I’m one of the few with a class 1 this should mean more money and no handball.
Not driving at the moment but any where I have tried in ireland have been paying about 120 euro a day for continental back to 90 euro for irish work, fridges seem to pay a little more that curtainsiders, but then you tend to be flat out at the fridges, or as one of my former employers used to say “put yer boot out around the headlamp and get back to that [zb] boat”. Seems to be about the same money as uk but longer hours.
I work for drivertemps and used to earn £6.60 an
hour between 06:00 hours and 18:00 hours but
about a month before I got class 1 It went up to
£7.25 and after 18:00 hours I now earn £10.88
an hour.
This thursday I will know how much class 1 pays
per hour as they used to pay £7.70 up to 18:00
hours and £9.00 after 18:00 hours
Hi all just a quick note: thought I’d let you all know how our agency has done since I jacked my job last September(04), well we traded from end October 04 till Dec 04, had pretty good couple months 5 drivers at the end of December…not bad
NO work Jan - Feb 05!!!
Good spring/summer has led to us opening 2nd office in Newbury currently 78 drivers signed to us, and we are looking to open office/site in europort - Normanton soon
I have to pick up on something that ROBK said last year that we were paying poor money for this area, well going by his post on this topic I dont think so
PAYE am £9.00 first 40 then £13.50 Sat £13.50 Sun £18.00
pm £10.00 first 40
NOVA CREST MADDISON MAXI Ltd Company etc
am £11.50 £14.00 o/t Sat £16.00 Sun £20.00
pm £13.50 £16.50
So i’d say our rates are above average, what happened to your firm “the Family”
Couple of possibilities. If where Tammy works they work 4 on, 4 off it would be possible to work on a couple of the 4 off days.
I seem to recall from another post that Tammy works as a shunter so might not be on tacho
Not allowed there coffeeholic, once you put a tacho chart in and use you are bound by tacho rules, so if you shunt for say 4 shifts, thats ok , but when you put a tacho in, you have to take into account the rest of your working week , unless you are ONLY doing 14 days work on tacho!
Little point on NOVA they are sailing close to the wind with the tax man, because they set up SINGLE member companies, the far better option is to go for Crestpay maxi maddison or any other "umbrella company, wher you are one of a number of employees for the same company.
we are changing/advising our lads to look at CREST pay as they offer excellent benefits, fully itemised wage slip, full ELI & PLI, Drivers negligence insurance, holiday pay etc etc, you can find them at www.crestpay.com

I still don’t think those rates are anything spectacular, considering the area of the country you’re in.
You’re Nova rates aren’t bad and the difference between them and PAYE is much more than most agency’s pay, so credit to you there. But don’t get too excited by the praise because you fall flat on your face at the next hurdle by cutting corners not offering time 1.5 overtime.
You can get £20.50/hr up here on Sunday work through Nova by the way.

You don’t say.
You misunderstand, I meant that if they were only ever working as a shunter, never leaving the yard, they wouldn’t need to use a tacho and wouldn’t need to have rest days. So if someone worked as a shunter on a 4 on 4 off pattern they could quite easily work any or all of their 4 off days (rest days) as a shunter, i.e. not on tacho.
