Two things frighten me about this job.
Firstly, but less so, is when I’m driving on A roads in the wee hours. I fear every time a truck approaches me that the driver will have a heart attack and swerve into my lane causing a head on smash.
My other fear is even greater and it is on my mind whenever I go near a tyre. I fear that it will just blow when I’m next to it. Especially after a long journey fully loaded. I’ve heard stories of the odd tyre or two blowing while cooling down. Whenever I reach under to put my dog clip on, I seem to enter a mini panic.
It wasn’t helped by actually having a blow out on the mid lift offside axle on the M1 a few weeks back. The force blew my mudguard clean off and it landed on the opposite carriageway. Debris flew past my window and I thought a car had hit me from the outside lane.
I am also aware of how easy jack knifings can happen on winter roads, so tend to really really take care on them now. My macho days are behind me due to bitter and quite terrifying experiences.
often tip at asda rdc rugby about 6ish in the morning then aim towards either wellingborough or kettering for the backload. catthorpe interchange in early morning with the sun just comming up and lane 1 starting to back up, cars (and the occasional truck) attempting to cut in at the last minute and sometimes actually stopping in lane 2 really scares me.
i should have founded a florist shop nearby.
Not being able to drive anymore due to ill health, dont know what I would do as an alternative source of income
Paddies
I run the A75 gauntlet twice a night and am terrified of paddies who are high on stimulants, (either illegal speed or o/ding on legal caffeine), coming the other way and passing my cab within a few inches.
Was in Shell Collin last night filling my car up and the paddy in front of me bought 6 cans of Red Bull.
That Friarton bridge seems to catch the wind somehow. When I cross it on windy days I straddle the lanes all sorts of idiots toot there horns I ignore them as it just takes a minute or 2 to get clear of it.
Many years ago I was travelling down a rural road with a flat bed trailer loaded with steel, without warning a young copper appeared in the road beckoning me to stop, I was only doing about 30mph but he was far to close for comfort and wasn’t going to move. In those few seconds I knew I would either flatten the bloke, or anchor up and be decapitated by 20 odd tons of steel coming through the back of the cab, in the event he jumped out the way and I stopped a few yards down the road. Despite grabbing him by the throat and telling him what a bloody idiot he was, I didnt get arrested, and never did find out why he did it! I was a bit more fiery in those days, but it still bothers me if I see a copper stood on the side of the road, albeit a rare sight these days.
Tiger.
the thing that scares me the most is people on slip roads, and people approaching give ways and t junctions at speed.most of whom who think it is their right to pull out in front of you with yards to spare.after having a artic pull out in front of me at his give way a few years ago,and i slammed into the side of him at 56mph.not nice.

What was the outcome? How bad was it? Were you hurt? A 56mph smash sounds quite horrendous.
people standing on motorway bridges as i pass under them always bothers me,after some years ago one of are drivers had a brick dropped off a bridge on the m56,it went though the windscreen and hit the rear of the cab leaving a nice brick shaped dent.luckily he only got a few cuts from the windscreen.

the outcome was i was lucky to walk away after getting a close up view of the road surface whilst hanging from the gap where the windscreen used to be.i ended up sitting in the passanger seat when i eventually stopped(please wear your seat belts) in the granny lane of the motorway i was driving beside.had sore legs and arms for a while afterwards, but was happy to still on terra firma.the other driver was prosecuted for driving immediatley for failing to drive with due care and attention.

For me its driving in high winds, dont mind driving in any other bad weather conditions just hate it when its blowing a gale!
I’m the same, and put me on a bridge or anything else reasonably high up and my arse starts to “eat the seat.” I’ve been on my side once and I never, EVER, want to experience it again. I get the same reaction if I’m put in a tight spot and at a funny angle at low speed.

Drowning.
Are you sure it’s not Beverley Bell?
What scares me most is a front wheel blow out running at max weight and taking out some poor innocents as a result, comes into my mind a lot on motorways
VOSA!
They make you feel guilty, even when you know youve done nothing wrong.
Icey roads is my pet hate the other is front tyre getting a blow-out.
rats
I’m that scared of rats if i see them close up I’m physically sick.
also driving wise im scared of falling asleep at the wheel.
