Yep your right mate and you sure do have a loving for it. I’m afraid there are too many in this game that don’t now which is a sore point with many a driver.
Like I said Jonny best of luck in your trucking future and keep us posted.
Streaky.
I tried grinning instead of grumbling today and it worked! Every time I was about to ‘comment’ on someones bad driving I just smiled and had a better day for it.
Hopefully this is not early symptoms of bi-polar
Thanks JTF

You are welcome
Nice to see I make a difference now and again
Hopefully more drivers will try this and start wreaking the benefits from it.
Cheers!!

i think its a bit sad when drivers would rather sit on there own than sit and talk to other drivers, just shows a total lack of social skills to me, if you ever do end up talking to these types of drivers, you find there divorced, seperated,no family, nothing really, sad really.
it costs nothing to smile, say morning, have a chat, you dont have to be there buddy, mate for ever, just sociable

My uncles not like that he’s 52 been single all his life, still lives with his mum and all his money is his. Always a happy chap.
Kind of why I’ve looked upto my Dad, Uncle and Grandad as role models. You tend to find out the people you look upto all have things in common. It’s what I found out like. But then again my uncle is a different kettle of fish
But I know what you’re talking about. When I was younger and went with my dad when he worked for my Uncles boss as a ‘favour’ and he was running out of somerfield not sure where it is but near sherburn somewhere. Use to be kwik save. When i was younger when my dad was outside the cab use to sneak out my seat get into the drivers side because as a kid thats where i wanted to be
A driver came over opened the door and we had a chat and had a laugh asking if i was driving the lorry but would you really get that now? I doubt it. Even though I was about 7, i still remember it. Drivers had time for you, most drivers I saw had a smile on there face. Everytime I went to where my dad worked at the time ‘supercook/renshaw scott before they got rid of their artics & rigids’ everybody knew who’s lad i was and every driver again, smile on his/her face. And looked like they enjoyed what they did.
And even some of my dads mates from work, they’ve seen me grow up and it’s like where did it all go, making mates on the road/work and some you get to know well, some you don’t. Some you get on with, Some you won’t. Regardless how old I get, I’ll always have a smile on my face doing this job, regardless what people think
Just shocking how much difference 10 years makes.
Cheers
Jonny

I’m like that because I got fed up of hearing the same old crap from the same old b/s merchants over and over again. My social skills are fine thanks, I just have no interest in using them on drivers who’ll just sit there and moan endlessly.

Don’t listen to it then If you don’t like what b.s people are saying, don’t have to sit there and take it. Sure you get b.s from transport managers but you get that anywhere you go with any manager. Don’t talk to drivers who ■■■■ and moan about their jobs then. You aren’t the only one who hasn’t got time for them

Well I won’t judge you if you don’t judge me! Sitting on my own all day does appeal to me. I’ve got lots of reading and studying to do.

I’m sure you don’t lack social skills, but surely if you come across as someone who doesn’t want to talk surely that can get lonely I love trucking and all but still couldn’t not talk to folk. Just not talk to folk who moan about anything and everything just because they can

You’ll soon find drivers who don’t moan few and far between. It may seem a stereotype but it’s because it’s true. I do talk to people, a lot, friends and family on the phone (and have staggering phone bills to prove it!). And anyhow one of the reasons I get on so well in this job is because I never get lonely.

strangely enough when you want to build a raport with someone for whatever reason (usually to gain something), its easier to find some common ground regarding something you both dislike than to find something you both do like. for example, finding out someone likes motorsports can be tricky as it doesnt really fall into everyday conversation but finding out you both think scanias are crap is easy. of course that example relates to trucking but the same principle applies everywhere providing you can find a common complaint ie the state of the roads, the labour party, modern music etc etc etc. bring up a subject that everyone hates and BOOM, you have a conversation going with the person who has something you want!

It is a good point Scanny. I would sooner wander off to a pub on a night out rather than sit in a cab or drinking tea from a flask. If there is a jukebox or a TV that can help strike up a conversation whether it is watching Moto GP or F1 in France or listening to The Doors or Dizzee Rascal in Newark
