Oh dear what a stupid post. I love my job and my life yet I don’t drive round with a smile on my face every minute of every day. Not many peoples natural expression is a big smile.

I’m not moaning about how drivers don’t smile, but i just don’t get why most drivers i see look so ■■■■■■ off. Not meaning to sound stupid even though i fail at doing so! Just i don’t see why if the job is ■■■■■■■ them off so much why are they doing it. Thats my point and I have others but I am not making them now as im off home to get ready for the gym

I’ll answer everyone else when i get home

Off to the gym? My exercise is cycling to work and back. Can’t afford a gym as too large a portion of my wages get deducted to pay for new school and college buildings to house essential subjects like leisure and tourism, humanities and sports science…

Yeah, I’m lucky enough for my mum & dad to pay for me to go to the gym because I like to keep fit, I walk near enough most places i go to. I choose to go to the gym because it makes me feel better and it helps having the time to go to the gym and im getting the most of it while i can. Nothing wrong with that

Mummy and daddy pay for little boy to go gym, typical :unamused:
Considering I only get £10 a week through EMA that only JUST covers my bus fair for the week. & Not exactly little at 6 foot 5 :unamused: If i could pay for it myself I would. No jobs going at the moment, So i’m looking for apprenticeships, If i get this one i’ve applied for £100 a week, £30 a week goes to my parents. And i’ll pay more if they’re stuck, And it’s not as if im not trying to find work. So :unamused: Kind of not hit the nail there.

youre a student and asking this question?
when you qualify and get out in the real world my mate ,you might understand.
our lives dont consist of party party all the time and a few hours in a classroom .
our lives are the daily grind of getting up at stupid oclock trying to get thru traffic which gets worse everyday, keeping to delivery times and feeling tired most of the time,to pay mortgages and keep house and family going.
As for doing a job you dont enjoy ,some of us need to earn a certain amount to pay our way and have been at it that long we know nothing else,so dont have any choice, its called LIFE.
so thats why a lot of truck drivers (not all) look bloody miserable.
Hope you get a job you really enjoy, best of luck to you!

Two you don’t know me all that well, I’m not partying day in day out, infact I work most of the time, spend time with family You know the same stuff regular working folk do?

Not exactly, your not paying tax …
Anyway, shouldnt you either be drunk or asleep now? Or just dossing about in the local town being noisy?

We do get some grumpy drivers come into work though, one looks grumpy but is sound. Another has only come once, wouldnt even talk to any of us.

I’m not paying tax because I don’t have to as I am not 18 YET. Paying tax is no issue to me, well it is because its less money in my pocket. But whatever paying tax doesn’t bother me.
Nope, I’m not drunk because i don’t drink often, when i do i have my fair share don’t get me wrong but i don’t drink all the time, I’m not a big drinker can take it or leave it it doesn’t bother me.
 I don’t doss about, If i need to be somewhere i’ll be there. If i am going somewhere i’ll get there on time or early. I’m no lay about, just a shame how the older generation tars us young uns with the same brush
Not all of us need a trip to see jeremy kyle you know

Im pretty sure i paid tax when i was under 18 and i earned enough for TAX to be deducted. Not 100% sure on that though.

Wait till your in the real world and you dont have much time left in your days. You go from having too many hours in a day to not enough…

Nope, Don’t get taxed when your under 18, and when you do pay tax under 18 you can claim it back.

I can’t wait until i’m in the ‘real world’ I’m bored at college and pretty bored having a lot of time on my hands. I rather be out earning my dough. But each to their own :unamused:

EMA. Dont get me started on that, something i never got. I had to get all my money through doing paper rounds and working as much as i could.
You need to apply yourself, as someone says at my work.

There you answered it yourself really by saying you don’t have a job because there’s nothing about. So you end up taking a ■■■■ job for a ■■■■ company and be as misrable as the rest of us. C’est la vie.

I find doing the job while looking miserable and grumpy helps prevent other drivers from approaching and talking at you. That makes me happy, although I of course don’t show it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Coffeeholic:
I find doing the job while looking miserable and grumpy helps prevent other drivers from approaching and talking at you. That makes me happy, although I of course don’t show it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes exactly, I’ve perfected the art of looking very unapproachable, even to drivers who work for the same company. Good times.

i have to agree with switch and coffee, its the best way to be, as long as your happy on inside in some way lol im not really grumpy but thats what i get called

jonnytruckfest:
Ok, this is a little bit of a rant and a bit of a question answer thing again  :grimacing:

Waiting for the bus this morning every truck driver that passed looked as if they had been slapped and told to shut up. Why are truck drivers so bloody miserable, I was always told that if your on the road you have a laugh and whatever not look as though you’ve done 10 rounds with mike tyson and lost!

Not to mention a woman car driver on her way to work…I knew she was a truck driver with what she was wearing, & Definitely not hard to tell who she drives for!! Big green company, thought they were supposed to be happy and cheery drivers, the crem da la crem of truck drivers??  Needless to say she gave me a right dirty look i thought about waving seeing if she waved back like said on the show if you wave they’ll wave back …Didn’t look like she’d give me a nice wave back!!

Anyway its just a question of why are there so many miserable buggars out on the road! Cheer up you set of grumpy buggars :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Cheers

Agreed, the only people i`ve known to walk round with beaming smiles, have been complete fruit cakes and/or, complete manic depressives having a good day :open_mouth:

I find it very hard to laugh my nutts off, whilst concentrating, just an observation :unamused:

this does happen sometimes

i have to admit that working nights and weekends isnt just about earning slightly more than day rates. it makes the job a little bit more bearable since all the 9 - 5 morons are tucked up in bed and out of my life.

incidentally, why are you even asking the question? if your life is so wonderful then great, be happy and let the rest of us continue our miserable existences without it being questioned. some people are happier being miserable

calebs gramps:
To be honest with you ,i loved going out in the lorry with my dad when i was a youngster and 30 yrs ago when i was your age i felt the same about it as you do now ,so i dont mean to have a go at you young fella, its just i done my class 1 at 22 yrs of age and the longer ive been doing it the more the reality of it bites.
But in all honesty the industry needs people with your attitude and outlook and obvious love of the job,so you go for it my mate cos i honestly think you will enjoy it and i hope you get a decent job and dont have the love of the job worn out of you like most of us old timers have.
ALL the best to ya.
cheers, mike.

Thank you mate, I’m not one easily swayed or get down by things. Always eager to learn new things and in a sense even though there is a lot of crap in the air in the haulage industry, with this Driver CPC getting drivers all worked up fair enough it’s more expense. But if you’re working for a company who’s paying for the training and I know three big companies who do pay for it, what’s the big deal :unamused: I read it in T&D last year i think about when the Driver CPC first came in for drivers and a bloke wrote about how it’s supposed to give truck drivers a ‘better image’ I just personally think drivers don’t help themselves sometimes. But that is my opinion.
My grandads in his 44th year of driving and retiring this/next year i think. And he said he wouldn’t miss it. It’s amazing the closer he gets to retirement the more he is doubting whether he won’t or not. My dad’s the same, been driving since I was born, so thats a good 17 years and he was driving when my brother was little before he was born. thats another 4 years so 21. ANd he was driving before that. And as much as he has a good moan, (That might be my dad in general   ) But one night when me and him arguing he burst into tears because at the time he thought he was never going to be able to drive trucks for a living. Killed him inside knowing he can’t do the job he loves. As much as he says he hates it, I know it’s ■■■■■■■■. In my eyes drivers love the job. They just hate the way people are ruining the job. But that’s my opinion I only see from where I see it with my dad and grandad. As I am not a driver yet so I don’t know all that much
Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

I think you are right, most drivers do look miserable…I don`t, I used to love it.
But then when I was your age, I had no time to post on internet sites(if there was such a thing) I was too busy trying to obtain the latest ■■■■■■■■ transimitted disease whilst trying to kill myself on a motorcycle…So YOU need to get out more…

Too busy doing college work, Spending time with the girlfriend being there for all the crap goes off with her and etc, going to the gym. Spending time at home with all ■■■■ at home. I still manage to look happy. Only time I used to look ■■■■■■ off was when I went to school. But that’s a different matter in hand :grimacing:

It’s a job and I learn something new aswell. And it’s experience. :unamused: Something I have a bit more of than a lot of others my age. Sadly.

I’t may have to do that in Time of Economic Crisis the Income is suddenly lower then normal, but the Bills getting more and more Expensiv.
Boths has to do with fighting the Crisis. Fighting, with cutting Pay,but also with rising Price.
At least,Paents don’t tell that there Children, and they don’t cry at Home, but out of House and you can read in there Face,Mimic and Behavior how difficult they have it to go with the Penny around the Church.

And the ones that got the apprenticeship, One worked their before on agency but didn’t get a job at the end of it and had family working there. The other had family working there. It’s not sour grapes that I didn’t get it, to be honest I was relieved I didn’t get it. But it goes to show. They make you try for sweet F.A!!! Good luck to um i say.

Just ■■■■■■ me off. Why advertise a job that isn’t actually there. Ah well, just keep applying and hope for the best :grimacing: :grimacing: Something shall turn up eventually!!

Didn’t look miserable though when they told me I didn’t get it, What did make me mad was when she was all cynical ‘Oh we hope you do better for the future’…‘So discussing other placements for this kind of apprenticeship is out the window then’…Absolute ■■■■■■■■ :imp: :imp:

I don’t take offence from anybody, Take it with a pinch of salt me not giving a monkeys what people think. Don’t get me wrong I have a good moan like, I’ve got ■■■■■■ off when I was with my grandad and they was mucking about chatting rather than getting us tipped. But then again with experience I’ve gained I’ve learnt a few tricks of the trade, and personally there are sides of truck driving I’d love to have ago at, Aka roping & sheeting, tanker work, tippers, But that’s just me I see it all as a challenge and just really interests me, I know sad. But that’s how i think of it all.
I know people think I could do so much better than driving trucks for a living, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was 2 and had many experiences which even my dad can’t understand why I still want to drive trucks for a living. But I DID have it in my head trucking was it and that’s me. But I’ve learnt it isn’t the be all end all. Hence the reason not only just getting one trade but I’m getting two. Which my dad is VERY happy about
Call me mad but, it’s not just driving in the UK, I’d like to drive all over the world, Europe, New Zealand, Canada, America, Australia. But then again, I’m a truck nut, Love anything that’s to do with a truck. But  Learning to crawl before I can walk. Then I can learn to walk before i run. And when i’m running just hope to hell i don’t slip and fall making an absolute ■■■ of myself. But  I do that anyway so somethings you just can’t help!

But even when I’m driving trucks for a living. I’ll be taking pictures and creating what I’ve been thinking of doing. But that will come out later on. Everyone has knock backs, but it’s no reason to let it ■■■■ you off constantly. Sure I was ■■■■■■ at not getting the apprenticeship and Hull College’s unorganised way of dealing with things and not even bothering asking me about doing the same apprenticeship elsewhere. But I didn’t let it ruin things. Infact from there it’s been uphill.
  Still think some drivers should cheer up though, It’s not all that bad. :grimacing: Could be worse surely?
