What is up with miserable drivers!

Ok, this is a little bit of a rant and a bit of a question answer thing again  :grimacing:

Waiting for the bus this morning every truck driver that passed looked as if they had been slapped and told to shut up. Why are truck drivers so bloody miserable, I was always told that if your on the road you have a laugh and whatever not look as though you’ve done 10 rounds with mike tyson and lost!

Not to mention a woman car driver on her way to work…I knew she was a truck driver with what she was wearing, & Definitely not hard to tell who she drives for!! Big green company, thought they were supposed to be happy and cheery drivers, the crem da la crem of truck drivers??  Needless to say she gave me a right dirty look i thought about waving seeing if she waved back like said on the show if you wave they’ll wave back …Didn’t look like she’d give me a nice wave back!!

Anyway its just a question of why are there so many miserable buggars out on the road! Cheer up you set of grumpy buggars :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Cheers

Jonny :grimacing:

was this the school bus?

Bus to Pontefract was waiting for. I’m a college student, Last months of college hopefully I’ll be on apprenticeship doing mechanics soon. Was waiting for 20 minutes for the bus but that’s another story

I’m just wanting peoples opinions really, I just don’t see why so many drivers look so angry :open_mouth:

Edit:

Sorry if i seem like a bratty child, its just I don’t see why you’d go to work if you aren’t happy with what your doing. I don’t know, it just annoys me slightly that people look so angry when they’re working. Don’t worry this doesn’t get to me, Just makes me think, who actually ENJOYS what they do.

Nope infact the DAF driver i saw was the happiest one of the lot, One of the blue circle drivers in the lafarge colours i think. But there was other DAF drivers looking miserable but most i saw was Scania, Hino well that i can probably understand :unamused: , Foden and MAN and only the cement driver looked like he was enjoying what he was doing :open_mouth:

If everyone got a job they like doing, who would staff the call centres or serve up your macdonalds?

Personally I love my job. I sometimes look grim when doing it cos I don’t love the 4x4 who has just cut in with inches to spare (true story M25 today no exageration) or the car that constantly speeds up then slows down when I try to overtake, or people using foglights or people not dipping their lights etc etc etc

youre a student and asking this question?
when you qualify and get out in the real world my mate ,you might understand.
our lives dont consist of party party all the time and a few hours in a classroom .
our lives are the daily grind of getting up at stupid oclock trying to get thru traffic which gets worse everyday, keeping to delivery times and feeling tired most of the time,to pay mortgages and keep house and family going.
As for doing a job you dont enjoy ,some of us need to earn a certain amount to pay our way and have been at it that long we know nothing else,so dont have any choice, its called LIFE.
so thats why a lot of truck drivers (not all) look bloody miserable.
Hope you get a job you really enjoy, best of luck to you!

Oh dear what a stupid post. I love my job and my life yet I don’t drive round with a smile on my face every minute of every day. Not many peoples natural expression is a big smile.

The average truck driver is 55 years old. That means many started out as a a driver between 1973 and 1980. Back then even an employed driver was his own boss as soon as he was out of the yard, a lot of freedom for a young guy if the alternative was a factory job or the coal face. So dreams of the open road, helped along by popular culture at the time, leads to people wanting to be a truck driver. Since then we’ve had EU drivers hours rules, analogue tachos, speed limiters, ever increasing H&S nonsense, Just In Time, computerised supply chains, in cab 'phones, VOSA, WTD, satellite tracking, digital tachos, speed cameras, DCPC and worse and worse traffic. So now the job is one of the most regulated and monitored there is, the complete opposite of what a lot of drivers signed up for. That’s why I reckon a lot of drivers are grumpy.

They was all probably miserable because there was no pools of water about to splash the muppets in the bus stop

I’m not moaning about how drivers don’t smile, but i just don’t get why most drivers i see look so ■■■■■■ off. Not meaning to sound stupid even though i fail at doing so! Just i don’t see why if the job is ■■■■■■■ them off so much why are they doing it. Thats my point and I have others but I am not making them now as im off home to get ready for the gym

I’ll answer everyone else when i get home

Maybe they weren’t pi**ed off, driving or walking around smiling all the time will get you sectioned.

I might look miserable when I am working / daydreaming, I’ve never really looked in a mirror at times like this.

When you are out there day in day out? Then if you can smile when stuck in a traffic jam, Well you have arrived at the Asylum mate!! My face would ache if I had a permanent smile on all the time!!

Look at the faces of people on the way to work on the bus first thing on a foul winter morning in Britain and tell me if you spot anyone above the age of 16 who doesn’t look miserable. It’s just that they are tired, relaxed or fed up or maybe it’s just me. (Actually a colleague pointed this sort of thing out to me after he had a holiday down under so perhaps he was a little biased).

For one yes i am a student, and I’ve already worked in three different offices and not one did i like but i still managed to not look so ■■■■■■ off.
Then again the first office I had decent eye candy to look at but thats another matter!
Two you don’t know me all that well, I’m not partying day in day out, infact I work most of the time, spend time with family You know the same stuff regular working folk do?
And if you know nothing else why don’t you learn something new? You can always teach an old dog new tricks and fair play to those that are away all the time to feed their families but surely they could be learning something while away on the road. It’s not as if it’s back in the 90’s where you had next to nothing (Using the 90’s as an example!)
& Finding a job i really enjoy. I’ve done the office lark 3 office jobs already at 17 and i’m not talking a couple weeks. I’m talking 2 full years each year in different offices and two weeks in a transport office which I partially enjoyed but no. Not for me.
I’m doing what my dad wanted me to do, Getting a trade behind me. I already have one, Photography…I’m trying for another…Mechanics either truck or cars it doesn’t bother me because its something I enjoy. And it’s not as if i’m just coming out of school, I’ve been to school i did crap, I went to my last college they screwed me over. My second year at re-taking my GCSE’s and well results speak for themselves. And it’s not as if i’m not open or honest about my time at school or college. And i’ve even posted in another thread my past grades from school and the grades im achieving, if i can do it. Anybody can. Regardless. You’re never to old to stop learning. It’s only those who refuse to learn that won’t.

And for your information, i’ve been with my dad and grandad in the truck, I love the 3am starts and I love it even more when i can lend a help in hand and get MY ‘experience’ even if it is little bits here and there. And I smiled and even when i didn’t i NEVER looked ■■■■■■ off. Sure I’m not driving trucks YET. Doesn’t mean I’m not going to be happy doing it. :grimacing: :grimacing:

Trev_H:

I was the only muppet then :unamused: And water doesn’t bother me, I tend to just freak people out when it snows and i don’t wear a jacket because i just don’t think its cold. So hardly something to be miserable about

Funny that really, Should tell that to the bus driver of the 134 to castleford, He’s always smiling and cheery, Surely working with passengers all day is much worse then being a truck driver :unamused:
