What is up with miserable drivers!

dessy:
When you are out there day in day out? Then if you can smile when stuck in a traffic jam, Well you have arrived at the Asylum mate!! My face would ache if I had a permanent smile on all the time!!

I’m not saying for everyone to constantly smile, I’m just abit confused to why so many drivers look ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off all the time. It just doesn’t sink into my leaking brain how you could go to work look and act miserable then go home again. I never did when i worked in the offices. I didn’t enjoy it but i never really acted or looked miserable or ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off. Even though they knew i didn’t really want to be behind a desk, because that’s not my idea of work. But thats my opinion.

Snudger:
Look at the faces of people on the way to work on the bus first thing on a foul winter morning in Britain and tell me if you spot anyone above the age of 16 who doesn’t look miserable. It’s just that they are tired, relaxed or fed up or maybe it’s just me. (Actually a colleague pointed this sort of thing out to me after he had a holiday down under so perhaps he was a little biased).

Had an american bloke on the bus couple weeks ago, he was happy and cheery and it was 8 in the morning. Or even still when i went for my assessment with carlsberg at 6:50 in the morning the bus driver was a happy chap who seemed over the moon. and he wasn’t exactly young!!

I don’t see why you’d go to work if you aren’t happy with what your doing

Money might have something to do with it

Then id say to get a job you like doing  Get paid for what you enjoy doing why not :grimacing: ā– ā–

andyfaz:
agree, probably the money! wages? and life in general, taxed to the eyeballs, and more to the point probably driving a daf.

If everyone got a job they like doing, who would staff the call centres or serve up your macdonalds?

Personally I love my job. I sometimes look grim when doing it cos I don’t love the 4x4 who has just cut in with inches to spare (true story M25 today no exageration) or the car that constantly speeds up then slows down when I try to overtake, or people using foglights or people not dipping their lights etc etc etc

I had someone in my old business class at school say they was going to get a job at spar in knottingley, saying they could live on Ā£50 a week. If people can enjoy living on Ā£50 a week like the girl that told me that seemed to think she could I’m pretty sure some one would work at Mcdonalds

My dads the same, he can’t stand the M25 he dreads it but somehow manages to do it. Its funny to go with him, see how much of the french language you can learn in 10 minutes of a rush hour with my dad. Pretty much goes through the whole dictionary i think

Jennie:
give me a wave ill wave back and with a cheery smile promise
Jen x

Will do :grimacing:

youre a student and asking this question?
when you qualify and get out in the real world my mate ,you might understand.
our lives dont consist of party party all the time and a few hours in a classroom .
our lives are the daily grind of getting up at stupid oclock trying to get thru traffic which gets worse everyday, keeping to delivery times and feeling tired most of the time,to pay mortgages and keep house and family going.
As for doing a job you dont enjoy ,some of us need to earn a certain amount to pay our way and have been at it that long we know nothing else,so dont have any choice, its called LIFE.
so thats why a lot of truck drivers (not all) look bloody miserable.
Hope you get a job you really enjoy, best of luck to you!

Two you don’t know me all that well, I’m not partying day in day out, infact I work most of the time, spend time with family You know the same stuff regular working folk do?

Not exactly, your not paying tax …
Anyway, shouldnt you either be drunk or asleep now? Or just dossing about in the local town being noisy?

We do get some grumpy drivers come into work though, one looks grumpy but is sound. Another has only come once, wouldnt even talk to any of us.

just been reading this post and trying to remember back to when I wasn’t miserable. It was roughly December 1992, just before I was married and with no kids :grimacing: . The situation is not expected to change until 2030 when i retire or unless I win the lottery before that and find myself lying on a beach in the Caribbean with Scarlett Johanssen tickling my nutbag and me with a cold beer in one hand and one of Mr Benson&Hedges finest in the other. Just thought you might like to know…

Trev_H:
They was all probably miserable because there was no pools of water about to splash the muppets in the bus stop

Nah, their leaving it for the bus driver to do that
Nobody ever saw me when I was driving trucks because I started at night, finished in the morning
Anyway I have a reason to miserable at work - I appear to be on the school run permanently, one school are absolute animals, and the other are a pleasure to carry, my coach is now starting to act its mileage

Oh dear what a stupid post. I love my job and my life yet I don’t drive round with a smile on my face every minute of every day. Not many peoples natural expression is a big smile.

I’m not moaning about how drivers don’t smile, but i just don’t get why most drivers i see look so ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off. Not meaning to sound stupid even though i fail at doing so! Just i don’t see why if the job is ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  them off so much why are they doing it. Thats my point and I have others but I am not making them now as im off home to get ready for the gym

I’ll answer everyone else when i get home

Off to the gym? My exercise is cycling to work and back. Can’t afford a gym as too large a portion of my wages get deducted to pay for new school and college buildings to house essential subjects like leisure and tourism, humanities and sports science…

I wouldn’t call your post stupid, but I agree with what switchlogic says above… When I’m at the yard I’m always pretty talkative and smiley, even when I get the ā– ā– ā– ā–  jobs, but when I’m driving, and particularly if I’m alone, I’m usually concentrating, so a big smiley face is sort of inappropriate.

But hey, maybe others think I’m a miserable [zb]!

I’m not paying tax because I don’t have to as I am not 18 YET. Paying tax is no issue to me, well it is because its less money in my pocket. But whatever paying tax doesn’t bother me.
Nope, I’m not drunk because i don’t drink often, when i do i have my fair share don’t get me wrong but i don’t drink all the time, I’m not a big drinker can take it or leave it it doesn’t bother me.
 I don’t doss about, If i need to be somewhere i’ll be there. If i am going somewhere i’ll get there on time or early. I’m no lay about, just a shame how the older generation tars us young uns with the same brush

Yeah, I’m lucky enough for my mum & dad to pay for me to go to the gym because I like to keep fit, I walk near enough most places i go to. I choose to go to the gym because it makes me feel better and it helps having the time to go to the gym and im getting the most of it while i can. Nothing wrong with that

Considering I only get Ā£10 a week through EMA that only JUST covers my bus fair for the week. & Not exactly little at 6 foot 5 :unamused: If i could pay for it myself I would. No jobs going at the moment, So i’m looking for apprenticeships, If i get this one i’ve applied for Ā£100 a week, Ā£30 a week goes to my parents. And i’ll pay more if they’re stuck, And it’s not as if im not trying to find work. So :unamused: Kind of not hit the nail there.

Nope, Don’t get taxed when your under 18, and when you do pay tax under 18 you can claim it back.

I can’t wait until i’m in the ā€˜real world’ I’m bored at college and pretty bored having a lot of time on my hands. I rather be out earning my dough. But each to their own :unamused:

Well when i was your age WE did used to pay tax at 18.
And sorry didnt realise you were still a teenager, totally forgot ,been everywhere and done everything already you OLD teenagers,
see how you feel when youve got a wife and kids relying on you to put food on the table and roof over their head and grandkids to help out.
let us all know in 10-15 yrs time if you drive round in a truck smiling at everyone .
And your dads right get a trade .dont drive for a living ffs. :unamused: :unamused:

And when i’m out the cab I can’t wait to get back in it. Consider me cab happy :unamused: Wouldn’t bother me sleeping in a truck day in day out. But then again I am a sad act accordin to some folk. I just say I enjoy what I’ve always wanted to do. If i have a trade behind me, whos to complain. I’ve done what was asked of me. Time to think of MYSELF for a change

To be honest with you ,i loved going out in the lorry with my dad when i was a youngster and 30 yrs ago when i was your age i felt the same about it as you do now ,so i dont mean to have a go at you young fella, its just i done my class 1 at 22 yrs of age and the longer ive been doing it the more the reality of it bites.
But in all honesty the industry needs people with your attitude and outlook and obvious love of the job,so you go for it my mate cos i honestly think you will enjoy it and i hope you get a decent job and dont have the love of the job worn out of you like most of us old timers have.
ALL the best to ya.

But then when I was your age, I had no time to post on internet sites(if there was such a thing) I was too busy trying to obtain the latest ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  transimitted disease whilst trying to kill myself on a motorcycle…So YOU need to get out more…
