No. there’s enough hypocrites out there the world don’t need another one, unless your willing to turn yourself in the next time you find yourself breaking the speed limit or other offences,
Yeah but the op’s mate is doing it on a daily basis, it’s not here and there it’s on a daily basis.
Sorry, i would have him for it, and before you guys reply, i would have to

Anyone stupid enough to believe that running bent is dangerous is obviously stupid enough to think running legal means they’re safe. It’s complete and utter ■■■■■■■■ and presumably it’s the same kind of numb nuts causing all the accidents. Hardly a week goes by when some motorway isn’t shut because of a British truck smashing into something in the night. Are all these Beans running bent now or is it just the fact that tacho laws have absolutely no bearing on safety.
A long distance driver who drives for 12 hours with a couple of 1 hour breaks is far safer than the multidrop driver doing a 15 hour shift. The tramper who takes 8 hours rest, but all of it on a bunk is far safer than the day driver taking a 9 hour rest at home. But according to the do gooders it’s only the bent driver who will be smashing into a school bus killing 10,000 childen.
Spot on.
(Thinking of the children too!)
There are far far too many people in this country who have something happen to them or a relative and then set up a foundation or charity in the name of the person affected by it. These outfits gain support through populist garbage media such as that dreadful ITV breakfast show, tabloid newspapers, women’s magazines and so on.
Woe betide the individual or organisation that dare criticise or even question them, or their myopic, zealous, listen-to-my-story-you’re-with-us-or-you’re-against-us, publicity craving approach to getting their message across. Can you imagine any trade organisation, haulier, govt official, disagreeing with BRAKE The (self-styled) road safety charity? Of course not, it would be commercial or political suicide.
Why? Because of the thousands of mugs who lap this rubbish up, tut at the newspaper and take it as fact.
So, we have legislation by media pressure as opposed to by debate and rational thinking. Sydeakinwoods’ earlier post, is an example of how this happens.
Come on people, leave the playground behind you and get on with your own lives.
you lot don’t half spout some crap
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to have a go at you. I just used your post as an example to try and illustrate my point. The way it came across to me was that you (and again, I don’t mean just you) have taken all the propaganda and big-dog-bites-small-child hysteria on board without actually forming your own opinion.
That is exactly what the bleeding hearts and do-gooders want.
Trust me mate, it’s not about road safety. It’s about power and authority.
Various groups want you to do what they say so that their status is heightened amongst other groups. Status becomes influence, influence becomes power.
the police and vosa have quite enough well paid employees doing what they get paid to do . why don,t all you wannabe super grasses leave the job to them . i’ll bet you were crap at school " please miss he just " etc , interfering wusses

I don’t agree with a lot that you claim , but the above quote when applied to organisations such as Brake is spot on.

I assume you would apply the same logic if an “interfering wuss” saw someone breaking into your car/ truck/ load etc.

Is it right that after 2006 all trucks must be fitted with a digi tacho, but theres nothing stopping you fitting an analugue one as well and using that?
If you mean you could use the analogue tachograph instead of the digital tachograph then no that’s not right
Digital tachographs became compulsory for vehicles being driven to EU regulations that were registered from the middle of 2006, I think it was around September 2006.
Where vehicles are legally required to be fitted with a digital tachograph and a driver is driving to (EC) 561/2006 regulations, articles 13 of (EEC) No 3821/85 says it must be used.
Yeah grass them up. Firms making their drivers run bent should be shut down. It’s firms/drivers like that who are knocking down the pay. I don’t believe they pose a serious danger by running bent, but they are undercutting the people who play by the rules. Which means someone breaking the law could put me out of a job whilst I grudgingly comply with the law.
Same with a drunk driver. You should always ‘grass’. And to those of you who say ‘never grass, only scum grass’… if your house got burgled would you still say ‘I’m not going to grass’? If your daughter got raped would you try to persuade her not to go to the police?
The only drivers who have a problem with VOSA are those who are breaking the rules. Same as the only people who hate coppers are those who get arrested by them… “I ■■■■■■■ hate the police! They banged me up for mugging an old lady. Why can’t they arrest the real criminals?”

Within a nation of similar?
But it’s Lord Blair’s ‘diversity’ in action, Phil: When the nation was unhealthy to begin with, that man & Labour shoved us further into this round-shouldered inheritance that we can now all be proudly ashamed of

Well said.
I have no reason to run bent or tired,I work for a good company who pay me well and they like everything to be legit, driver training etc and I am never under pressure or expected to break the rules.
Its the cowboys who have cut the rates and wages so far back over the years that now they are finding it hard to make a profit unless they runt bent.
I can’t believe any driver is supporting the time rules we got now. It’s the most stupid and idiotic system you can ever get. Or is it that you guys just want to sit on the pub?
I would never ever in the world report anyone cheating because of the rules that set up by the chocolate boys and girls in Brussels afraid of even checking the oil in there own car (if they even got one)
When it comes down to to “running bent” it all depends on by how much, IE pulling your card to tip or load or after already driven your permitted hours being expected to then drive another further 5-10 hours or more without any sleep, and chances are those doing that are not getting paid accordingly for doing that , it’s all a question of where the line is drawn really,
Where as if your held up in traffic or by UKBA at one of the ports and that costs you upto say an hour, then continuing to drive over your 9-10hrs to find a decent safe & secure , suitable parking place in which to take your daily rest should not present a problem, The reason why it could i suppose is when a driver abuses this

Hi Schroedinger (and your cat!),
You could FIT an analogue tacho, but NOT USE it on its own if there is a digital tacho fitted too.
The following is just a taster to show that EU rules are more complicated than Quantum Physics:
In the EU, EEC regulation 3821/85 made [analogue] tachographs mandatory throughout the EEC as of 29 September 1986. for the purpose of improving road safety. VOSA says: “regulation 1360/2002 makes digital tachographs mandatory for all relevant vehicles manufactured after August 1, 2005. Digital tachographs would be required as of May 1, 2006 for all new vehicles for which EWG regulation VO(EWG)3820/85 applies”
http://dtc.jrc.it/helpdesk_faq.php [EU’s digital tach website]
“Within AETR countries, traditional analogue tachographs can installed on vehicles until 2010.”
Regulation (EC) No 561/2006"Article 26
Regulation (EEC) No 3821/85 is hereby amended as follows:
2. Article 3(1), (2) and (3) shall be replaced as follows:
"1. Recording equipment shall be installed and used in vehicles registered in a Member State which are used for the carriage of passengers or goods by road, except the vehicles referred to in Article 3 of this requirement.
Like your infamous cat, the upshot could be that an Enforcement Officer might not know which tacho you had (analogue or digital) until he opened your cab, but he/she would certainly know which report you should be providing when asked (digital).
lightning:
What If on talking to another driver, of a fellow haulier, you found out that they were bending the tachograph regs as far as they really could. These flex’s would include a 2.30am start till 1900 spreads. 4x 9hr sleeps without splitting one (3 hrs + 9hrs ), and taking the paper tacho out to load / unload. The truck this guy was driving was an 06 volvo which I thought would have been digital, but wasn’t.
Question is would you raise said issues with the vosa men??
You only speak to VOSA when spoken to by them.the same with customs.
No I wouldn’t its none of my business, we all have done stupid things and bent the law at some point so it’s kind of calling the kettle black
And it seems the biggest argument here is people saying if you dont grass then someones going to get killed, so what about all of you who do 75mph+ on motorways and dual carriageways ? what about those of you doing 35mph in a 30 ? what about those of you who use a mobile whilst driving ?
We could go on and on about this but the simple fact is theres a higher percent of drivers that drive bent then there is lorry drivers.
… Now off to report my neighbour who I just saw drive his car up the road whilst on his phone
