Yes if youre an owner driver, no if youre employed. Truck is classed as a work enviroment even though youre in it all week, I understand where youre coming from but when u get a fine dont cry or the sack
If I now had no work due to a crappy truck and felt like id wasted part of my day, why I do the company any favours and waste anther 5 minutes of my time filling out a defect report…
so that others in your position would not be wasting their time too
totally agree but the question as to be asked why the truck was in such a state to start with…
I would suggest that the bit in red might be the biggest clue as to get to the condition being discussed takes some time. As an aside could the state of the fleet also indicate the morale and motivation of the staff employed? Poor fleet presentation = Poorly motivated personnel.
richmond:
I just been out to
My office there is item 58 but i think that is for like a manual ratchet hand brake or like a secondary trl brake on the old scanias,an exhaust brake is not part of the braking system,if it was then it would have to fo over the rollers and be measured.it is actually amazing what is not includes in test.i regulary have a drivers defects for items which are not testable such as heated mirrors and also get regular ones for cuts in tyres which are not deep and dont go through to cords and another favourite bald tyres with 5mm of tread on…yes i have sent them all on a course yes it was a waste of time
So would defective, but non MOT items, not need to be repaired? Heated mirrors are going to be handy in the foggy/freezing weather; on safety grounds you need to be able to see in the mirrors.

Speaking as a “whinging ■■■■■■■ who doesn’t like the smell” ,I DO see your point, if you live in the motor as the only driver I reckon you are right, and if you are off and your guvnor puts a smoker on it everybody is happy, but being as it is…like it or not…the law, he shouldn’t be surprised or ■■■■■■ off if one of us non smoking whinging ■■■■■■■■ refuse to drive it, and certainly shouldn’t be if he puts a smoker on a non smoking wb’s motor when he kicks off! and just to clear summet up, I aint against smokers in general, just the inconsiderate selfish ■■■■ type of smoker who judging by some of the attitudes on here seem to be in the majority.

Same as, smokers a smoker, just hate the pigheadders who do as they please, thats what does my head in
MR VAIN:
I really hope I never have to be an employed driver again.
As for the op I’d be surprised if we ever see him again.
Opinions vary, as do standards. It was his choice to walk away, he handled it his way.
As for defending the company, I don’t recall him naming them■■? Had an employee of that company
A) not of been on here,
B) not of been tipped off about the events leading upto, and the making of this post,
Then this post would of probably died out within a page or so.
The clue was in the title ?
Was I in the right ?
Not, make me look foolish for asking a simple question!!!
I agree entirely it’s got to the stage on here where you (personally I don’t give a [zb] ) have to watch every word in case you get put down/ridiculed/patronised or generally taken the ■■■■ out of. The guy said he was new to the job so that should have been sufficient for some on here to lay off a bit and give the lad a bit of constructive advice.
well i kind of feel sorry for the guy, he came for advise and help and what did he get? he is a new driver and maybe on his first observation took the broken stalk to be indicator? with the loads of advice from experienced drivers on here what would he have expected to get from going to other drivers on site, prob a post saying today we had a thick agency guy,
these same guys are moaning about lack of decent truck stops, conditions yet would allow themselves to be treated like an animal for £7-£9 per hr no wonder this industry isnt moving on…

all he had to do was ask ! instead of throwing a ■■■■■ fit and walking
To be fair you dont know he did.your version of events is a mmtm one.he was there and made a choice and it was his only to be made.to be fair if your company enforced a clean truck policy maybe he wouldnt have vored for the exhaust brake\indicators.also while iam at it i use the exhaust brake everytime iam out to avoid using the foot brake on downhill slopes fully loaded.so i agree with him 100%

that truck is in the minority tbf and to vor a truck for something that is still operational may happen with the big rose tinted airy fairy logistics bods, but if it works is road legal its out the gate and earning
it may of been a mmtm but this mate has been a friend of mine for about 15 years or so and is not known for making stuff up
yes it was his choice… all he had to do was get a second opinion of the garage to whether it was fit for the road
yes he is a newbie… we are one of the few firms i know that are willing to take on people with less than two years experience
he was unlucky …its luck of the draw what you cop for some days your the dog some days your the lamp post

But this a forum where everyones can air their views. TBH I would take some trucks out that others wouldn’t, would depend on many factors, like the actual defect, what the load was, where I was going ect. Just because a company has a clean truck policy, doesn’t mean its kept to by everyone. I go into places that have these policies, and they have some of the worst trucks I have ever driven.
Its a case of each to their own, but the op didn’t help himself by changing information after Gonzo came on board and questioned him. His first OP seemed to me that he went inwith preconcieved ideas about this firm.

precisley
oh and just to add his work for the day was 4 jobs 2 deliveries two collections and mabe set one up for the night man doddle of a day mostly round trafford park i think the furthest one was bolton
“after doing checks for 15 mins and getting mithered to get a move on I decided that I wouldn’t be taking the vehicle out and handed the keys in,”
it seems like the attitude given towards him for doing his 15 minutes minimum checks may have give him a clue into what sort of reply to expect!! ?
i dont smoke myself but i will happily talk to guys who are having a ■■■ outside, however if I go into a confined area where someone as been smoking then my breathing changes, wheezing ect however I am not against smoking but it should be in relevant areas, or your own home. or like pubs and restaurants there should be those that allow smoking as long as there are those that don,t allow it. in a truck that as been heavily smoked in i would be ill in a short time, the smell can make me physically sick! to a non smoker the smell can be as overpowering as sitting in a pile of human excrement, so there is no way i would have taken a truck out that stinks of it…
wether smokers like it or not there is a link between smoking and respiratory disease as well as others, and its not going to be long before folk start suing employers for allowing their staff to work in a enviroment that as been smoked in, i dont agree with it but can see it happening within the next few years.

can you show me in writing, or post a link that says you MUST take ‘15 minutes minimum’ to do the walk round checks?
not having a go or taking the ■■■■, i would genuinely like to see this in the form of a link or written rule

I would say its for the driver to decide if the truck he is given is fit for the road or not. He is the one responsible for taking it out onto the road.
We all know fitters outlook on faults; “aye it’ll be reet, let it develop.”
