Whilst I do think it’s odd not to know what you have been driving ( hell it’s the first thing I want to see, but I’m sad like that!), I hope the op isn’t too traumatised! And… did we ever find out what the light was or are we still playing guess the lorry?
If you look on page 1, the answer is there.
ADDS.

Agency Driver Detection System. The truck will smash itself to pieces to save you the bother.
Lol mr filmstar does the truck come with a limp aswell and a bit of Elastoplast holding the mirrors on?
I am not sure Jeff.
It was booked ages ago but hasn’t turned up…
Just browsing through the site as I’m bored, I don’t normally come on here, but Jeez H I can’t believe the stick this young lad is getting from some of our more experienced drivers who quite frankly should be better than this.
The lad comes on inexperienced, asks a personally valid question about a warning light and gets dogs abuse because he comes back with an admittedly maybe daft answer… (incidentally mate, out of the few sensible answers you got I reckon Mr Tachograph is about the nearest , brake related, and next time if you are in any doubt, park up, phone in and insist you want it checked out properly, or a text for records off your guvnor if telling you to run with it…clears your arse if things go ■■■■ up)
Ok so he did not know what make of truck he was driving, so what ffs, who cares, he was maybe concentrating too much as opposed to the suggestion of too little, on his driving, being a newbie, that and a combination of nerves, also believe it or not shock horror to some of you truck fanatics on here…some people do not have the slightest interest if a truck is a Superspaceliner or a standard spec or whatever, to them it is a working tool.
I have driven the ■■■■ things for over 30 years and my interest and enthusiasm level for them is one point above minimal tbh.
When I started I was helped and advised a hell of a lot (and had the ■■■■ ripped out of me) by guys with experience like us now, and I will never forget them for their guidance they gave me in the job.
So come on chaps give the young lad a ■■■■ break, this forum is for enquiries from newbies so let it go ffs.
To o/p do not stop posting, truckers are a ruthless bunch but the better ones among them are always willing to help.

1.did you ever drive a truck for a day,and not know who made it?
2 would you ever, give a job to someone who drove a truck all day without having the gumption to know what he was sitting in?
3 how did he check the oil? or is it ok to assume oil ok f the wee light tells you?
4 all things being reasonable,he may not know the exact spec, model etc of what his bum sat in all day,but surely the post beggars belief unless its a windup.nobody could be that gormless .
no doubt he will be exemplary in driving jobs for Tosco and the likes, but ffs,cop yourself on if you think someone would give him a job if that’s the standard given.either hes at the wind up,or theres a career as a traffic cone waiting for him.

+1
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I Find the attitude towards this from some of you as absolutely unbelievable!
I simply can’t believe that some of you think that this is acceptable!
With drivers getting stopped and fined for the most minor offences these days I can only imagine the reaction from some of the authorities to find this driver when they know he doesn’t even know what truck he’s been driving all day.
If I was Mr or Mrs Vosa I would be thinking, well if he doesn’t know that what else doesn’t he know? I should make a few quid out of him if I can find him!!
I’m still trying to work out how you can drive a vehicle all day long and not know by the end of it what the vehicle is? As others have said its nearly always on the bloody steering wheel!
For the ops sake it’s that thing you’ve been turning all day. You know the big round thing that you put your hands on
What’s Mrs B got to do with this?
Like I said it was a daft answer, but he’s a NEW INEXPERIENCED driver
the ink on his licence is still wet.
I don’t know about you guys but when I was 21 years old I did quite a few totally ■■■■ stupid things, one of which when I look back was totally dangerous, I could quite easily have been killed.
Now if he had came on and asked about his warning light saying he had ignored it and nearly totalled a car ok, give him a hard time, call him a prick, throw a few ■■■■ s at him, but Jeez H all he said was he was not interested in trucks enough to ascertain the marque.
You have all made your point, we get it he was a bit of a drip on this occasion, but let’s get perspective here…nobody ■■■■ died …let it go ffs.
However if all you experienced guys did, or even said, absolutely nothing ■■■■ stupid to make a prick of yourselves when new, you are definitely a better driver than me, and I bow to your abilities, so yeh, keep up the abuse you are fully entitled. if not give it a ■■■■ rest and knock it on the head eh?

Hiya dd no desire to fall out with you, just sticking up for a new boy. Always been a one for stepping in, sticking my big snout in and helping somebody who is getting beat up, verbally or otherwise, I just can’t help it.
Anyway you and me are too bloody old ugly and seasoned to be on this green as grass boy’s thread , but here goes I’ll answer the points you put to me.
-
No, but this kid did, and who really cares. Ok fair do.s, it’s a bit ■■■■ docile but he’s new and he’ll learn.
-
When I had my own trucks I gave about 5 young lads a break.
One was totally unemployable and ■■■■ useless, others were good from day 1, and 1 was a bit naive… like this kid, but in time turned into a good lad through time patience and the odd kick up the arse from me, even though I was not much older than them myself in those days (80s)
Also if it is relevant I paid for their courses and they worked it off…apart from the useless one who I told to ■■■■ off, not come back, and keep the money. -
Don’t know, but I would imagine off the dashboard as in most modern trucks.
4.I’ve met a few gormless young lads, I accused my own eldest boy of being so a lot when he was younger, he is now Head Tech at a Ford dealership and earning much more than me…they get better with age.
Hope that answers your questions bud.
questions kinda answered my man…though I couldn’t give some dobber a start if I asked him what he drove on his last shift, and he gave the replies he has given soafar.however…lets just sit back and watch the rest of the posts with eager anticipation.
Remember Robroy this is this lad also but diesel in the Adblue tank
I think hes been taking the adblue ffs
Been away from this site for the last few days as the post from paulnowak really hit a nerve as a family member committed suicide recently. I never expected to have something like that said to me. I will be leaving this site for that sole reason.
I am very surprised at the number of responses on this thread about the NEED to know what truck it is I am driving. Most of the times I have been given the keys to the truck I walk up to the truck from the rear. As thats the way they are parked. The only time I would see the badge/make etc would be on the walkaround or on the steering wheel. My mind is on other things to be honest and it doesnt bother me in the slightest if its a daf or a volvo. I will in time get to know them obviously. I am 4 days in remember. All of the drivers and staff so far just call the trucks by the last 3 digits as far as I have heard. So thats what I look for to tell what truck it is I am in for the day.
I have followed procedure when needed to as in the adblue situation. I have called in regarding the brake light. I realise I was most probably fobbed off as I wanted to know what the warning light was for and they couldnt really tell me. I thought with all the years experience of you guys driving these trucks and knowing the makes/models - you would be of help. I thought i had explained it well enough for you to tell me what it means but in future I will take a photo to show other drivers as am very curious and want to know things and get the answers to them.
To the guy who thought I had answered him rather rudely, I apologise even tho you had taken it the wrong way. I would never say anything like that. Reading it back I was a little abrupt.
There have been a few nice people standing up for me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Please remember guys we all start from somewhere and while I am not the most knowledgeable about the trucks so far, I will learn. I will find out what the warning light is for as its really bugging me.
This forum is not for me. I dont want to read about negativity on my posts. How you can even think about doing it I cannot imagine. You do realise you should be helping people - not putting them down. I feel bad about the guy who took what I wrote wrongly - how can you all who wrote negatively sleep at night?
Anyway, I am off now and wont be coming back. Good luck to you all anyway.

Look mate, I have stuck up for you on here, for a couple of reasons, firstly because I have always tried to help lads like yourself who are new and green, admittedly not so much on this particular forum, more in the job it’ s self, as I do not come on very often and there are plenty of lads who give regular good advice on here it as it is.
Secondly because I thought the treatment you were getting was bordering on a lynch mob mentality, and at least one member, who I will not mention by name, appeared to be enjoying it just a little too much for my liking to the point where it was bodering on the edge of bullying…(not the one I responded to personally either btw)
So mate, what you should have done was come back on, apologised to those that you did and thanked who you did, ok so far.
However…what you should not have done is made yourself look a bit weak (and tbh mate slightly pathetic) by doing the drama queen procedure on here (you are not the first btw) by flouncing off the site with a closing speech.
All you have done now is let the mob (and the bully) win
and even made me who stuck up for you look a bit stupid.
Now I may be coming across to you as a bit preaching, and I know this is just a forum and not real life.
However in the real trucking world if you want to be a driver you need to man up a bit, take the stick, take the banter, take the abuse, put your head down and stick in, give back as good as you get, and do not take any crap off anybody…fellow drivers AND bosses,.
Stand up for youself, demand respect and you will get it…trust me, I have done this job in many aspects a long time and I know what I am rambling about.
If you carry on in the job as you have demonstrated on here you will be ■■■■ taken by drivers, and used and abused your whole career in this game by bosses, …unscrupulous co.s LOVE subservient and weak drivers.
On the positive side of things Truckers can be invaluable when you are learning to be a one yourself…IF you listen to the right ones.
So mate get back on here, it can be a useful and entertai ing site, read through your posts before you press submit, because you have learned that if you put something stupid you have dug your own grave on here.
I have gave you (and other newbies on here ) some good free
advice…take it or leave it, I don’t care.
And sorry to everybody else for coming across as a trucking based Mother Hen …I aint usually like this.
PM on way to you.

I agree with mother hen!
OP, I think you do need to toughen up a bit if you’re going to cut it in this game. Truckers are rough working men who like a bit of banter. However that can go too far as it has in this thread… So put ur chin up mate and tough it out, it’s for the best if you want a happy enjoyable future in the game. Plenty on here have done silly things in their past, the real men are the ones that realise them and accept them…
Best of luck!

Yeh I know that mate, …and I’m the lad who nearly killed himself at 21 green as grass, pulling a trailer handle while parked on an angle …facing me! with the legs still up, watching 20 ton of steel on said trailer coming towards me at a heavy rate of knots, and diving away from it like Tom Daley on speed.
So take the ■■■■ out of me lads, the difference is I can take it and bite back.
Pretty much what Rob said (does that make me your ■■■■■ too? ■■■■.)
I will add though, rather than binning the forum off, lurk in the background, read threads and use the search feature. Most of the questions you want to ask have already been asked.
Once you get used to the forum and it’s users, get involved then. Don’t take everything to heart, we’re truckers, we take the ■■■■ out of each other because we all balls up now and then.
Well I can’t believe we’ve turned this thread into a bullying issue!! Only in this country of ours could that happen where if you have a different belief or opinion you’re either racist, sexist or a bully!!!
Ok at least one or two comments might have gone a bit too far ( not from me I might add) but I think the ones who have not be very supportive to the op can’t actually believe what they are reading!
As I have said a few times my only concern is safety. When I mean safety I mean if you don’t take any notice of what truck you are in charge off how can you be concentrating on driving the dam thing?
That said my advice to the op would be to concentrate more on what you are doing because of the two posts you have posted BOTH are down to a lack of concentration on YOUR behalf.
I’m not sure what training you’ve had but I’m sure you would have been told to try and familiarise yourself with the truck as much as possible before taking it out.
In your case I suggest you simply haven’t done this!
Anyway no need to leave the forum at all as others have said banter and strong opinions are all part of this game!
For god sake just man up and concentrate on the job in hand.
Best of luck in the future and remember the safety of you and the general public should always come before anything else.
