Coolrider:
Well I can’t believe we’ve turned this thread into a bullying issue!! Only in this country of ours could that happen where if you have a different belief or opinion you’re either racist, sexist or a bully!!!Ok at least one or two comments might have gone a bit too far ( not from me I might add) but I think the ones who have not be very supportive to the op can’t actually believe what they are reading!
As I have said a few times my only concern is safety. When I mean safety I mean if you don’t take any notice of what truck you are in charge off how can you be concentrating on driving the dam thing?
That said my advice to the op would be to concentrate more on what you are doing because of the two posts you have posted BOTH are down to a lack of concentration on YOUR behalf.
I’m not sure what training you’ve had but I’m sure you would have been told to try and familiarise yourself with the truck as much as possible before taking it out.
In your case I suggest you simply haven’t done this!Anyway no need to leave the forum at all as others have said banter and strong opinions are all part of this game!
For god sake just man up and concentrate on the job in hand.
Best of luck in the future and remember the safety of you and the general public should always come before anything else.
Seeing as it was me who used the ‘B’ word mate, I’m assuming your comment is aimed at me.
I am the last guy to use any ‘phobia’ word to stifle an argument. I am also very lacking when it comes to political correctness.
Sexism and racism you mention are both rife in society, but I reckon both terms are overused, and many situations of which, are greatly exaggerated.
As for bullying I hate it in any form, always have, always will.
What I said was something like ‘‘The treatment of this lad was bordering on bullying’’
He came on asked a perfectly relevent question, then stated that he was unsure of the type of truck he was driving.
Now to you and admittedlly me, it does sound a bit daft, and drivers being drivers jumped on it, which is fair enough, that is what we do.
The point was made, and that should have been it, but it just went on and on …and on repeatedly.
Ok the lad did not do himself any favours by some of the replies, but again constant ■■■■ taking ensued towards this lad …who has had a Class1 for weeks rather than years ,by those who have had a one for decades.
Still not sure about the relevance of safety in ratio to not knowing a Scania from a DAF tbh mate, if it was me or you, we would know truck types, as transport is what we do.
However if I went to learn to be a farmer and drive a tractor I would not know a ■■■■ Massey Ferguson from an Alex Ferguson, but if I learned to drive a tractor correctly and safely, would it really matter, would it make me less safe?
I reckon the recognition of tractors would come in time to me.
That is the only (bad ) analogy I can use to more or less explain or even guess this lad’s situation, it can be applied from anything from sowing machines to combine harvesters.
I may be well out, I don’t know the guy,…maybe he is just a bit dim (although to me he does not come across that way to be fair) as for your safety point, at least he took the right path of noticing and reporting his warning light.
So I would say let him crack on, and learn the job, I think he realises he has made a prick of himself, so let’s just move on eh? Instead of prolonging it with abuse.
