When you’ve got a problem with a truck, it makes life easier to know what you’re driving.
will remember that next time. if it was my own truck i would know but was just handed keys and a reg number.
Did you do any of your vehicle checks or was you just not paying attention at all I’m sorry mate but you can’t driving anything without knowing the make of it get your sh…t together man or give your licence back
Even if you can’t see a model name or number, we can normally help with problems if we just know the name of the truck maker. If you say its a small DAF then we’ll know its an LF. If you say its a medium sizec Merc, we’ll properly guess its a Merc Axor. If you’re new to the game then you’ll most likely not know the models unless you’re a truck nut but you can’t fail to notice the make. Out of all the marques that are used in this country, none have an obsecure name or symbol. Hell, MAN and DAF are about the easiest to spot.
OP please don’t go, you’re presence has really livened up this forum, and dozy isn’t posting so much anymore…
This forum is full of helpful people, but at the same time you have to accept that if you ask a question and you’ve been less than diligent in your actions, you’re in for a bit of stick…
I can appreciate that as a Newbie you’re finding it all a bit overwhelming, and as such didn’t pay attention to the make of truck you drove. But at the same time I’m wondering how you checked the oil level when you did your checks, as they are all different. So let’s start with that, did you use a dipstick, and where was it located? Did you check it on the dash, and how did you access it through the menu? As with that information we can probably tell you what truck you were driving? Also where was the handbrake? On the dash or by your side? etc…
Basically try to give us all the info you can remember…
But in the future, take a picture of the warning sign with your phone, and while you’re at it, a picture of the truck might help!
Wow, I am shocked and appalled by some of the responses on this thread. A newbie comes on here asking for advice and he’s roundly abused for his lack of knowledge. Shame on you all.
As for the OP, he did the right thing. Rang his office for clarification and defected the truck.
dipstick looks for dipstick…is it only me thinking that now?
either this is yet another windup,or its posted by someone who is best suited to a day out in the bus with the rest of the window lickers…google mongbus pic for further info
and id love to see how optimistic captain cve wuld be if it was his truck, and just found out who was driving it…anyone with a face wouldn’t have a cretin like this working for them if that’s the genuine question being posted…it surely has to be a dozy special.
the o/p has to be having a quiet chuckle at the replies that take this seriously.

Before I went for my licenses I was told this wasn’t a job for the Precious Princess. I would ■■■■ up and I would have the urine extracted. That’s part and parcel of the job. I accept that and even join in where appropriate. What’s been written on this thread goes well beyond banter though.

That makes two of us mate, I’m shocked and appalled that someone who’s been put in sole charge of a truck out on the open road where my wife and family might also be travelling hasn’t got a bloody clue about the truck he’s driving!
My criticism comes from a safety angle. It might seem acceptable to you that people like this are out there in charge of a truck but it’s certainly not acceptable to me. I’m dam sure vosa would also have an interest in this individual if he were to be stopped and he informs them he doesn’t even know the make of the truck he’s been driving for the last 9 hrs!
Any professional driver worth his salt would also find some of his comments unbelievable!
You can take offence on behalf of someone else all day long mate but if you find this acceptable then I’m personally shocked and appalled about you too!
I’ve been in this game many years as a driver and management and I can tell you this I’ve never ever heard a driver who doesn’t know the make of the truck he’s been driving all day long !!!’
I’m still going along with the wind up post myself but if it isn’t then this is just about the most stupid thing I have ever heard from a driver!

The guy doesn’t know what truck he’s driving ffs. I’m surprised by that too, but it doesn’t automatically make him lethal behind the wheel.
Perhaps there’s a lesson for all the newbies and wannabes that visit this board. Don’t ask a question because if the driving gods on here deem it to be stupid, you’ll be verbally lynched.

Yeah it would make so much more sense for them to continue doing what they are doing in blind ignorance, as the alternative is for them to get their head ripped off if they dare to post on here!
A bit of banter is good, but belittling others isn’t!
Note to Captain cave man etc !
Op fired first shot when he had ago at me for asking a simple question to make sure he got the right answer as not all warning lights are the same on different makes of trucks ,
He might as well of said F off directly

Truck make and model would help as well
I didnt pay attention to the make/model. I just thought it was a standard thing in most trucks.
Not sure I’m seeing that mate…
Plus I don’t think Cavey was aiming his comments at you!

He politely put it by saying I only drive and thought it was a standard thing ,
As said I was only trying to get a bit more info to get him the right answer
But hey I’m only a lowly van driver not worthy of giving help to chosen ones
There are many many topics on this site from newbies who want to get in the game or who have just passed and want advise. That I’ve got no issue with at all.
There are also a lot of posts from experienced guys who just want to vent some anger, learn new things or just discuss trucks etc. Again no issues at all.
But if you are seriously trying to tell me that a driver, newbie or experienced can spend all day driving a truck and at the end of it not know what they’ve been driving is safe to be on the road when most of this game is common sense and concentration then you’re of your rocker!
This has nothing to do with being a newbie at all. It’s about concentrating on what you are doing which the op is clearly not if he can’t even tell us what make of truck he has spent all day driving!
I’ve always said and always will that safety comes first above anything else.
My comments are solely on the interests of safety.
However to put this to the test why don’t you go to your TM in the morning and tell him/her that you’ve found your company a new driver to take charge of one of their nice trucks. Tell them about what he’s put on two posts on here.
The first post, about diesel in the ad blue would make me think but wouldn’t put me off completely. But if you told me about this post I would send you home for the day and tell you to come home when you’ve come to your senses!
If this post isn’t a wind up then I actually find it worrying that someone like this is driving around a truck on our roads, I really do!
Have I offended anyone- probably Do I care- absolutely not. Why- because safety of us all, including the op should and must come before any pride, offence or anything else!
I don’t know about any one else but each time i look at the centre of my steering wheel I have a Lion and the words MAN
glaring back at me , or if I drive one of our 7.5ts or Hiabs IVECO
