waitrose

Did anyone get a job there.

I did with the k&n contract.

That’ll possibly be the K+N who, with the utmost respect to everyone concerned doing an honest job, are riding contractually high on the Waitrose customer’s integrity but are possibly less vocal re’ their Swiss-based (ie, tax-cute), steely ambitions to steam-roll into becoming the UK’s largest, biggest and best [sic?] log’s sector leader to add to their hugely international portfolio?

I’ll fetch my coat…

I am only a driver… :sunglasses:

:smiling_imp: i know about 40 drivers from tesco widnes looking to apply dec 2012/jan 2013 may the best applicant win.

It’s not a bad job after all especially if you like this supermarket stuff. There are vacancies arising from time to time…

Same amount of drivers applying from the co op depot at lea green st Helen’s plus a lot of ex woolies and tesco drivers who came from Rochdale and Middleton are applying for the new Asda depot at Rochdale.

pt6615:

Isn’t it of any interest how company’s conduct themselves on the (inter)national stage

As I see it, ethics don’t stop at the boardroom and ‘…only…’ drivers are bit-part players too.

…All I was trying to express is that a driver has to be a top performing driver and not a driver-manager-advisor-etc. in order to best serve company interests. That is why we are hired for. To drive. If the company needs managers or advisors or politicians hr will in due order hire them.
I don’t feel like a bit part player. I feel like a top performing driver…)))

A couple of lads I’d worked with got jobs with Waitrose, it must have been over 15years ago now.

I’ve not heard from them in ages to be honest but I’d always heard nothing but good things, wages, shares, pension, store discounts, clean easy work.

Have done agency for Waitrose and the whole attitude is completely different to practically everywhere else. As you walk on site, almost without exception everyone you pass acknowledges you with a ‘good morning’. There is none of the feeling that you are ‘just agency’ ; you are treated politely, as a person, and as an equal. Traffic office guys check your licence and take the trouble to clock your Christian name. I’ve never heard any complaint about an agency driver getting a “cream job that I wanted” or anything similar. Everybody goes out of their way to be helpful. What you will find is that some of the manoeuvering required at stores is challenging. All in all a thoroughly pleasant place to work.

dont u have to were a uniform thow?

Except if you are with an agency. PPE is a must for everyone.

Ditto that.

But be sure to wrap up warm in the winter. No night heaters in those little green Dafs.

It helps a bit to select the cab heater onto ‘recyling’ and the fan-speed low-ish ASAP after parking up - remembering to podge it back when the break/collect is done.

The best way is not to sit around in them for to long

I am a driver for K+N, in Bardon on the Waitrose contract. In July a brief was put on the staff notice board with regard to Waitrose Chorley and I will summarise those points.

Internal refit to start Jan 2013 and completion due May 2013.

To start operations from May 2013 and to be fully operational by July 2013.

It went on to say that no decision has been taken by Waitrose on the future of the Bardon site.

When I have more info I will post it.

Shame the shifts are totally crap.

6am 12 hours 6pm 12 hours would have been better I would have thought. Even a 3-way midday, 8pm, 4am would have been better than those all-over-the-place starts! :frowning:
I’ve known people to get a full time job, get told “You can easily swap away your early starts if required” and then chucked it in on week three because they could not actually swap their 3am shift they’d been given on rotate for that week… Uniforms, wages, notice - a lot of waste there by the firm itself because of a misleading TM “promise”! :frowning:

As for myself, I’ve been to a lot of places who say things like “Ooh you like nights & weekends? - just the guy we want!” when what they really mean is someone paid and working 6am monday to friday who does nights and weekends on overtime or shift rotate!

What’s wrong with fixed nights, lates, days - not everyone wants to rotate all over the place surely? - The needs of the operation can cover all hours IF you recruit the people that want to work that particular shift, rather than a constantly changing one! I was quite happy in my old job doing perm. nights, an afternoon start on overtime, and never did any earlies for 20+ years! :grimacing:

No problem phill , john Lewis possibly may take drivers from agency but at waitrose it is open everyone with a licence, religion , colour, age,■■■, have no bearing on working in the partnership we just want good honest drivers. And in return you get to be a partner in a great business .i will tell you to brush up on your blind side revesre lol .myself and the other driver trainer at waitrose Aylesford rdc recently took out over75 drivers on assessment for 28 jobs, those 75 drivers where picked from over200 applicants ,so you can see everyone gets the same chance it’s up to you to make best of your chance,

■■■■■■■■ I have been told twice + one best friend of mine that we can not work at Waitrose due to the country we come from.
That is the gratest racism I have received in the Great Britain so far and worth mentioning both of us were applying to Aylesford depot !!!

I had a driver assessment at Waitrose at Aylesford once, which I failed, largely because I couldn’t muster up the interest to share the assessor’s enthusiasm about the trip to Thailand he had just returned from that very morning where he had been, ahem, “befriending young people” :smiling_imp:
