If you want to become an HGV driver I would recommend working for Stobbies.
Are you for real? There is absolutely no comparison between Waitrose and Stobart. If I ever come off tramping Waitrose would be my first port of call to look for a job. Plus of course Waitrose trucks will still be trundling up and down the motorways long after we’ve seen the back of Stobart…
Yes, plenty of Stobart drivers would like a job at Waitrose, but the Waitrose driver who would prefer to work for Stobart has never been born. That alone should be enough to tell ESF everything he needs to know.
I think John Lewis is a shining example of how to run a company. From the shopping experience to customer service to products to the way it treats it’s employees it’s just brilliant. If you don’t believe me try to find one person that has a bad word to say about them. If the FTSE 100 was populated by John Lewis style companies our economy would be an unstoppable powerhouse.

You wee trolling turd
Yes, to be honest I do not imagine that ESF is a genuine Stobart spotter, but simply a bored fellow truck driver who enjoys yanking on a chain and seeing what reaction he can get.

Waitrose sounds to me like it’s forgotten more about how to treat it’s workforce than Robbing Stobbies will ever know…I’d apply but doubt they’d take me as I’m self employed…
They would take you on as an employee though, you aren’t forced to be self employed and can change your status back to “employed” freely.
Ta for the info. I’m aware of that, in fact you can be both at once but i prefer S/E. I meant in my post that they would be unlikely to take me on part time - I’ve never had all my eggs in one basket and aren’t about to start now…too much uncertainty to commit to one place entirely. When you work from several sources you never get made redundant…
I’d be very tempted by a part time position though.
I’m just scared of driving those day cabs, no comfortable place to take your break & in a collision it’s likely to be fatal-sorry but I’d like to come home to my family in one piece…!

It’s all about costs. Waitrose a became very tight budget one. Hence the small engines. I mean 310s hey… Pulling 28 30 tons uphill forget about it. Noisy as well. But the job is all right though…
I suppose it’s like every other business out there. A small engine I can live with but a day cab will result in me not living at all… K+N Brinklow DAF CFs had bunks in them, i think they are being replaced with green day cabs though…

WTF are you talking about ? Do you really think the difference between a day/sleeper cab is that final? Please explain your logic,no, on second thoughts I’m probably pushing your limits too far on that one .
I just saw a crash once on the m1 involving a truck with a day cab. The driver was killed instantly as he had no room behind him. One of our drivers went into the back of a stationary trailer on the m25 driving a sleeper cab & walked away from it. It’s just an image that’s stuck in my head that’s all…

Don’t ■■■■■■’ crash then

310hp, I’m dreaming already after the mega 230hp wag+drag I’ve been driving.

‘… the small engines. I mean 310s hey… Pulling 28 30 tons uphill…’
Some might be plated to 34 tonnes when a penny-pincher realised that it was cheaper than buying more 410 six-leggers (40 tonne?) - only to restrict them down to uselessness (in ‘automated’ mode, the gears consistently hunt for the optimum cruise condition - which has effectively been removed!!!) along with the added bonus of worse fuel consumption too: Hoorah for ‘non-driver qualified’ managers
Day cabs? They aint all bad news as it means not having to work in a space with a stinky mattress & dubiously stained curtains

I can agree with that. I just try not to use that automatic option rather just switch to manual mode. I have tried John Lewis’s 360s though they are better more power more responsive gearbox.
For me a day cab means that I am actually doing a day job so that’s good. (unless I am a nighthawk or an insomniac). Don’t get me wrong I did nights for a long time before…
