I think John Lewis is a shining example of how to run a company. From the shopping experience to customer service to products to the way it treats it’s employees it’s just brilliant. If you don’t believe me try to find one person that has a bad word to say about them. If the FTSE 100 was populated by John Lewis style companies our economy would be an unstoppable powerhouse.
This post shows only how few people you know that worked for them.
EDDIE STOBART FAN:
If you want to become an HGV driver I would recommend working for Stobbies.
Are you for real? There is absolutely no comparison between Waitrose and Stobart. If I ever come off tramping Waitrose would be my first port of call to look for a job. Plus of course Waitrose trucks will still be trundling up and down the motorways long after we’ve seen the back of Stobart…
You won’t be in the “back” of a waitrose truck though - no bunk, so no easy whiling away of POA…
Truckulent:
Waitrose sounds to me like it’s forgotten more about how to treat it’s workforce than Robbing Stobbies will ever know…I’d apply but doubt they’d take me as I’m self employed…
They would take you on as an employee though, you aren’t forced to be self employed and can change your status back to “employed” freely.
Ta for the info. I’m aware of that, in fact you can be both at once but i prefer S/E. I meant in my post that they would be unlikely to take me on part time - I’ve never had all my eggs in one basket and aren’t about to start now…too much uncertainty to commit to one place entirely. When you work from several sources you never get made redundant…
I’d be very tempted by a part time position though.
Me too, but part time LGV jobs are as rare as rocking horse turds! I can’t even find an ad for 25 hours across weekends at supermarkets, even tkmaxx give more jobs out to toilet cleaners than drivers!

No problem phill , john Lewis possibly may take drivers from agency but at waitrose it is open everyone with a licence, religion , colour, age,■■■, have no bearing on working in the partnership we just want good honest drivers. And in return you get to be a partner in a great business .i will tell you to brush up on your blind side revesre lol .myself and the other driver trainer at waitrose Aylesford rdc recently took out over75 drivers on assessment for 28 jobs, those 75 drivers where picked from over200 applicants ,so you can see everyone gets the same chance it’s up to you to make best of your chance,
■■■■■■■■ I have been told twice + one best friend of mine that we can not work at Waitrose due to the country we come from.
That is the gratest racism I have received in the Great Britain so far and worth mentioning both of us were applying to Aylesford depot !!!

Rubbish
Shall I bring you witnesses. For every you have to pay 1.000 pounds and in total it will cost you 5k.
I am not The Sun reporter but the person who experienced above from Waitrose Aylesford RDC. Also I have heard story of one foreign driver being sent home after he reported to the TO with driving license exchanged from Eastern Europe.
I am a live example of Waitrose discrimination.
Have a try and find me more than 5 blokes who are not British Citizens and hold non - British driving license over there but are fro EU countries.
In the warehouse - yes they do employ but not OTR.

Are you telling me there are no eastern european drivers employed at Waitrose Aylesford?

Where did you pass your test?

@1 As far as I am aware - No, They also do not want agencies to send any foreign nationals over there. I know that there was one bloke working on afternon shift who had Polish surname but I am not sure he is still there. @2 In Cyprus as I used to live there. But still any EU country DL MUST be accepted in GB otherwise it is discrimination. Which I have experienced and as I said previously - No other place in UK, in Europe discriminated me that much as Waitrose Aylesford.

Shame there aren’t more like them then.
I tell you the reason I am here.
My job in Cyprus was taken by a Brit who decided to live in a nice sunny place. Guess how he took it - by undercutting my price

Pretty slow on the uptake there old bean, I made that post months ago. Feeling a bit bitter because they didn’t want you maybe? As so far many people who have worked there seem to back up what I’ve said on this thread. ONWARD

Errrr, not sure why you quoted me, that reply makes no sense in relation to my comment.

Sorry did not notice date of issue of your post. As for the rest I still do not agree with you as the amount of people I know grows.
No I do not feel bitter. I just express my experience with the company mentioned.

I applied to Waitrose,Aylesford when the depot first opened never got as far as interview as my Class 1 driving has been on lowloaders, tippers etc I would have given up running my own business to have got a job there but as British (English) I could not claim discrimation as the reason for rejection
It’s something to do with where you passed your test. I don’t know the full reason so I’m not going to do what a lot of people do and make something up or say what I think it is
If it’s discrimination as you say wouldn’t that be the same as companies that advertise for drivers over 25 only??

My care insurance is the same as any other person that has passed test in any EU country and than exchanged it for GB license. So you are wrong. That is discrimination as insurance is not the case. The question I was asked: Are you British ?: No. :So you can not work there as they want only British.
My mentioned friend after that was asked :do you hold GB license :Yes, exchanged from oter member state : than sorry we can not take you on unless you pass the test in UK That is discrimination.
I’m honestly trying to give a flying f about this, but I must’ve slept funny last night and my hair looks ridiculous all sticking up on one side and that.
